Chapter 61 61
Phoebe~~
To meet up and submit the task I hadn't worked on, I was permitted not to show up at the academy until I was done, and it really helped me. I thought about nothing else and only focused on the task until I was able to get exactly what I wanted.
My body hurt when I was done, but since there was still time to submit it at the academy, I had to freshen up and leave that evening. It was still about two hours before the day ended, so submitting it wasn't a bad idea.
When I arrived, the other students, especially those I shared a room with, were all shocked at how fast I was and why I didn't take a rest instead of showing up. I went straight to the manager and submitted the project.
I had just stepped into the general room where the works were ongoing, wanting to know from the others what was going on and what we as the students were to do, when someone cleared their throat, drawing the attention of everyone, including me.
That instant, everyone got to their feet and lowered their heads. I didn't understand what was going on until my eyes landed on the lycan princess who kept smiling at me when there was nothing funny. I frowned, but still lowered my face, and deep down, prayed that she wasn't here for me but for the management.
“Your highness, are you here to see the manager?” someone asked her, and while she nodded, her eyes were on me, making me regret peeking at her. She walked out of the room with the lady who approached, then we finally raised our heads and got seated again.
The others began murmuring as usual, but I kept quiet, keeping my face straight as though I didn't know what was going on. Even my wolf pondered if she was here to speak to the manager about what she told me, and that meant that in this clan, they had no right, which wasn't okay.
When my father ruled, he never mandated people to do what they didn't want, so why was theirs different?
“Phoebe, did you offend the princess? The lycan king wouldn't let it slide…” one of my roommates muttered in my ear.
I ignored her with a frown.
“Does she look like she did and is sitting peacefully here? They wouldn't even let her cross the palace gate and would throw her into the cell. So the princess is probably here for some other thing.”
“Maybe she loves her and wants her to be her headservant.”
“Are you saying her training isn't that important?”
“I know some servants who get trained in skill or education by the royal family, provided you are what they want you to be. So what if the princess wants that? She would just be coming to work from the palace until she graduates and owns hers.”
“And they would launch her empire. If only I could gain such favor.”
I looked up to the lady who made the last statement and didn't even realise that I was smiling so much. “Do you want to be close to the princess?” I asked the lady, and she rolled her eyes but shook her head. “Why? You just wished to gain such favor, and being close to her will give you such.”
She shook her head again.
“Is the princess that bad? There's no history of that,” one of them added.
The lady nodded, “I just don't like royalties. A little mistake will land you in prison, so I'd rather stay here and manage instead of staying with people who will expect something higher from me when I'm not sure….
“Just tell us you aren't intelligent and could just lavish their money, which will stir their anger.” Another cut her short, and we all burst into laughter, including the lady in question.
“If that's what you think, I don't give a fuck. I don't need pressure, not even from my parents.” She defended herself, and I saw a point there. But then, if she had no other hope, she would put in all her heart to deliver the best, as someone was looking up to her.
We kept discussing other matters when the clicking sound of a heel on the tiles caused the room to freeze. The princess had worked out with the manager, and even without turning around, I perceived her scent and felt the manager's energy.
I would have regretted coming over to the academy if not for the fact that I recalled how easy it could have been to send me over when she showed up and asked about me.
But, after a few minutes of them not calling for my attention, I thought she wasn't here for me and got my mind off her.
“Do you mind leading me out?” someone whispered to me when I was busy sketching a design, her arm on my shoulder, and her scent filled my nostrils. I bit my lower lip so hard and hoped it wasn't broken, because I just hated what was happening.
She could have just left when I didn't respond for a long time, but then she had purchased a long-lasting patient, which I couldn't even stand any longer. “If that will make you happy,” I said and stood from my seat. “This way…” I gestured, and she began walking ahead.
I didn't know I was scowling until I heard someone whisper it behind me, then I cleared my throat and made a straight face, even though it didn't take long for me to frown once again, because I was so pissed and couldn't deny it.
We got to where her car was parked, and she entered the car. “Come in, I have something to talk to you about.” She tapped on the space beside her.
Even though she was a lycan, she wouldn't dare to hurt me there, so I sat down and shut the door. “I wonder what it is that made you fake coming to see the manager….”
“You understood, right? I love that, Phoebe….” She grinned, and I felt like smacking her cheek so she wouldn't find a way to smile again. “It's not about what I told you earlier. I just want you to be my friend when I start my training in the academy.”
Fuck! It sounded like a buzz to my ear, and my eyeballs almost fell out of their sockets.
“Are you so shocked? I'm not going to be here every day, but in the afternoon, after I'm done with work at my father's company. I thought it was a nice idea, since I'm looking towards creating an empire where fashion and designing materials would be produced, so I should have an idea what they use most so I wouldn't produce useless ones,” she elaborated, and even though it made sense, I knew so well she got such an idea now that she met me.
What happened years ago for her to come up with the same idea?
‘But it would be to our benefit. Since you're looking towards creating designs, partnering with a company that produces the materials would be marvelous to boost us quickly, don't you think so?’ my wolf suggested while I kept twisting my fingers together.
I nodded at the princess. “You have a nice idea, and I hope you excel in it.”
She looked so happy that I complimented her, and I wondered what it was about me that was driving her so crazy. She was doing well in her father's company, right? And just a few hours ago, when we met, she already came up with an idea that will keep us close.
“Uhm, I should be returning to the academy now.”
“Wait!” she stretched and pulled out her cell phone. She showed me a photo of a man—Alpha Knox, and then asked, “Do you know him? Are you from his pack?”
Words suddenly became heavy to leave my lips, but I forced them out after shaking my head. “Is there a problem?”
She nodded, “I heard he's dead. Is it true? You should know more as a werewolf?”
“But his death shouldn't mean anything to you.”
“Is that so? My dad doesn't joke with him. He keeps mentioning his family and never says anything about them. Now I'm worried and want to find out about his lineage,” she responded and dropped her phone.
I picked up interest in that, because I also wanted to know, even though he was dead, so I asked her, getting my hand off the door. “How do you want to find out about him?”
She hummed and answered, “Maybe checking the library. There's one that has histories written there, and I can surely find it there.”
“Then, can I join you?”
“Yes!” she laughed and clapped her hands. “I'll come pick you up.” She blew me a kiss, and I couldn't help but giggle.
