Chapter 13 13
Phoebe~~
We were hauled together into a dungeon, still underground. The cell was chilly, with a tiled floor and nothing to hold onto, except for a rope which the criminal could hang themselves with.
I couldn't believe that they don't care if the prisoner committed suicide in the cell. That showed how mean and destructive Knox was; a part of him I wouldn't believe existed if I wasn't seeing it for myself.
The guards who threw us in locked up the door, which I kept staring at how it was constructed.
How much did Knox spend to make his palace this spacious? Every part of it screams of money. Right from the main palace building, to the slave yard that I had been, and down to this underground.
A poor mass would mistake the cell for a spacious room if they hadn't been in one, because the floor was tiled and not damp like the cell in my father's palace, and the door was a security door, which makes it impossible for the prisoner to even see the outside or think of leaving.
That could be why there was a rope, so if one feels it was too much, they hang themselves to death. And with how chilly the ground was, one could die of cold as well.
Even the slave yard looked so comfortable for slaves who had committed crimes. No wonder Angeline chose to be there instead of returning to her pack.
For someone who sells sex slaves and makes money from whores, and the weapons he produces, he was damn rich.
I turned to Angeline, who was also looking around the cell like it was where she didn't expect to be, then she scoffed.
My brows knitted. What was funny about being thrown into a cell?
Our hands were tied backwards, so I could only nudge her. “Are you okay? Why smile?”
She chuckled again, “The rope! Who would kill themselves in this kinda cell? This is some people's dream room.” She couldn't hold her laughter in again. “I hadn't seen this kinda cell.”
“Looks like you don't know the name of the alpha of Crescent Moon Pack,” I asked her, and she nodded. “I see. It's not even of use escaping to meet the alphas for help when they hadn't succeeded in taking him down in years. I should just accept my fate and see if I can achieve it on my own.”
Angeline shrugged. She stared at the wall opposite us and said, “Yeah, just accept it. If you make him fall for you, then it's a starting point. But I'm not sure how possible it could be when he sent you back to the club, and we are now here. He would be so pissed with you.”
“I will calm him down. I will try. I have to do this.” I responded and pressed my lips together.
The ground was being too chilly, so I managed to stand and was pacing around the room, when I noticed a little door which I kicked with my leg, and it opened. “A bathroom?! What the fuck!!”
Angeline hopped to her feet to check, and our eyes widened.
“Could this be a VIP cell? No way a criminal would be made so comfortable.” I screamed, and we nodded at once. “It's now making sense.”
It was so fun making use of the bathroom when we were pressed, and when we guessed it was morning time, a tray of food was shoved into the cell for us.
I arched my brows and looked at the door. My wolf snarled at whoever it was that was there.
“Are you not coming to untie us? Or should I just transform?” Having said that in such a cold tone, a guard walked in and after he untied us, he went ahead to handcuff us too.
It was after we had emptied the plate did Angeline make a statement that made me almost throw up. “What if it was poisoned?” she asked, looking so serious.
I coughed as much as I could, trying to dig my finger down my throat and throw it all out, then my wolf sneered at my stupidity.
‘We are good!’
I released a heavy breath and turned to Angeline, who had tears welling in her eyes, “My wolf says we are good.” I wouldn't blame her because she was an omega and had passed through hell, unlike me, who lived so fine all these years and was an alpha too.
Time passed by, and we couldn't tell whether it was noon or still morning. But I was deep asleep, resting my head on the wall, when the beeping of the door awoke me. I turned to Angeline to see her wide awake, staring at the door.
Two men barged in and ordered us up.
“His Majesty summons both of you in the throne room to face your judgment,” one of them said, and we began standing.
I knew damn well that Knox wouldn't kill me, but I was scared about Angeline, whom they already knew as a spy. It would be better if she were beaten or given too many tasks in the field so I could help her. But execution? I prayed Knox wouldn't recall something like that.
We followed the men out of the cell, leaving the underground through another route as well, and then out to the palace compound.
As we entered the throne room, I met his council as they all pinned their gazes on us, mainly on me, who they knew was an alpha princess.
We knelt before him, and that was when I noticed that I'd been sweating profusely.
“Your majesty, what is their offence?” one of the men at the sides asked.
Knox didn't get his eyes off me. It was as though he was contemplating how to punish me for crossing the line after pleading not to go to the club last night.
“They invaded my underground to monitor where weapons are being produced and packed. I'm sure they had fun watching it all,” he narrated, with a toothpick in his mouth, and his gaze locked onto mine.
I lowered my face and took a deep gulp, but he commanded me, “Look me in the eyes, Phoebe!!” and I quickly raised my face again.
“If that is the case, then they both should be executed, because the underground is nowhere expected to enter without your command,” the same man added, and I shook my head in disagreement.
I turned to the man, “Who said he didn't order it? I didn't even know it was out of bounds. We made love there in his library, and I didn't know it was underground.” I said without thinking, my heart palpitated.
Angeline nudged me and shook her head. It looked like she was ready to die, but I wouldn't let it happen.
I faced Knox and first held my head high, “Look, Knox…”
“Knox? How dare you refer to His Majesty that way?” Another voice shunned me angrily.
I bit my lip, but continued. “You know, I was curious to see that library and read books, but I missed the way, and we ended up there. How could I know such a thing was happening there? I only wanted to read with my friend.” I lamented, my tone so pitiful that one would think I wasn't lying.
He said nothing, just staring.
“Remember, I'm your mate. And, I hadn't gotten you any money from the club. If you forgive us this time, we won't dare think of it again. I took Angeline. She didn't do it on her own, so if you insist on punishing, it should be me.”
Just like he wasn't looking away, I also didn't.
The men began murmuring. Didn't they know that we were mates? If I die and he isn't strong enough, the bond will take his life too, unless he's going to end the bond between us before that.
After a long silence, he stood up from his throne, flung his jacket backwards and began walking closer to us. He stood before me, his hands clamped backwards, “Is that true? You meant no harm?”
I nodded. Was I supposed to accept it?
“You could show me another library so I can read during the day. Of course, you know how much I love reading.” I said and pouted.
He scoffed, “But you came down there the other night out of escape…”
“Yes, and I still didn't know it was underground,” I responded and met his gaze again.
Then he squatted, his index finger raised my jaw a bit, and he declared, “If that's the case, I'll spare your life until I'm very okay with the amount of money you made for me with your pùssy hole. But your friend? She is a spy and must be executed!”
My jaw dropped in disbelief.
I tried holding him, but he stood and walked past me just immediately, and his command roared behind me, “In two days, the spy must be executed!!”
“Yes, your majesty!!!” They all chorused.
I turned to Angeline, the sobs leaving my throat. I held his hand, shaking my head. “I swear, I won't let you die.”
But she was smiling, as though she already knew it was her fate…and I just hated it.
