Chapter 189 Two hours before Escape.
Melissa trailed behind them.
Color drained from Summer and Meredith’s faces.
Summer quickly ran to Heaven. “I’m sorry, my sister. We had good times, right? Please don’t let them take me away. I’m pregnant, see.” She quickly showed her bump.
“What good times? Name one,” Heaven asked.
Summer thought but couldn’t find any.
“Well, we can make one. Please. Just throw them out.”
“And why would she do that?” Samantha asked.
“Because she has a rich father now. And we made that possible. If I had decided not to bring us here, she would have married her brother. So do me a favor and throw them out!” she begged desperately.
“Summer! You have been busted!” Melissa screamed. “Murderer.”
Everyone gasped.
“Stop embarrassing me by calling me a murderer. I don’t know where your father is. I’m also a victim of a missing husband. Why would I kill the father of my unborn child?” she feigned innocence.
“Mrs. Summer Jo, you are under arrest for the murder of your husband, Assemblyman Jo. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law.” The officer stepped forward and presented an arrest warrant.
“My daughter can’t kill anyone. Maybe you are mistaken,” Damien said, standing in front of the officer and his daughter.
“Exactly what evidence do you have?” Meredith shot back. “We are going to sue you all for false accusations. You want to destroy the image my daughter worked so hard to build.”
Melissa scoffed. “I was born and raised in that house, Summer. I know every nook and cranny and things you don’t even know exist. The only reason I left is because I couldn’t stand you.” She searched her bag and brought out her phone.
The video played. It showed Summer stabbing Assemblyman Jo in the neck with a broken shard. The sound of his gurgling and choking on his blood, and Summer screaming in shock, filled the quiet hall.
Everyone gasped.
Damien turned to his daughter in shock.
Summer looked at the judging eyes around her.
“Daddy, she was going to kill me. All I did was defend myself. Mother, you are aware of the abuse I had to endure. Tell them.”
Meredith shifted, removing her daughter’s hand from her arm, trying to exempt herself even though she was involved.
“Mrs. Meredith, it’s actually too late to exempt yourself,” Melissa told her. Then she played another video of them getting rid of her father’s body.
“Damien, do something! I was trying to help my daughter. That man was a beast!”
“Take them away from here,” Heaven said coldly.
“Sister, please hire a good lawyer for me. I’m pregnant. I know you can’t stand to see us hurt,” Summer pleaded, shaking.
“Damien, we are your only family! You can’t let us rot in jail!” Meredith shouted as the police officers pulled them away.
“Stop!” Heaven said.
Summer and Meredith breathed a sigh of relief.
“You forgot one more person.” She turned to Damien.
Damien stood frozen. Guilt and regret burned in his eyes. In a few seconds, he looked like he had aged ten years.
“Take him in for fraud. He deceived a woman on her dying bed. Add child abuse to their charges.”
One police officer came forward and put handcuffs on his wrists.
“The letters are in your room,” Damien said softly before walking away with the officers.
The hall fell quiet.
Rayan knew this moment was for family alone. He pressed the earpiece in his ear and spoke. “Lead all the guests away.”
The nannies also took the kids away. The hall soon became empty.
Old Man Johnson stared at Heaven, then at Fabian.
“Have you both done it?” he asked, dreading the question.
Fabian’s jaw tightened. His fists clenched and unclenched.
“Father, we can’t believe those people. They just want to sabotage things for us. There’s not even a slight resemblance.”
“Fabian, let it go,” Old Man Johnson told his son.
“Fucking let what go!” he roared and flipped an entire table upside down. Wine bottles, glasses, and pastries shattered on the floor.
“You fucking believe them. Or you desperately want to believe that your lover you abandoned left something for you, huh?”
“Fabian!” Heaven screamed. “Stop it.”
He stopped.
“Vera, please. We don’t need any of this. Let’s just go back to Suncity, or anywhere you want,” he begged desperately.
Heaven sighed.
“Fabian, none of us are thinking clearly right now. It’s a lot to take in. I understand that because I just found out my whole life is a lie. Let’s give ourselves time.”
She turned to the old man.
“We almost did, but we didn’t,” she told him before turning and walking away.
That day, sudden nausea had hit her while they were kissing, and she had to run to the bathroom to throw up. And it didn’t happen.
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.”
Eva, with the help of Maverick, poured sand into her mother’s grave. She immediately broke down in shaky sobs.
She wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, soaking his shirt with tears.
Killian watched from where he stood, his jaw set tight, anger burning through his veins as he tried to understand that this was a sad moment for her.
Richard stood beside Edward, being a silent pillar of support through his loss.
Eleanor sobbed quietly, unable to believe her friend was gone. She wasn’t someone who drank so much that she would jump out of a third-floor window.
As the grave was being covered, Eva suddenly passed out.
Maverick carried her to the car. Eleanor followed after. Eva clearly needed a mother figure, and Eleanor was there for her.
They drove off.
Killian followed behind in his own car.
The rest stayed until the grave was fully covered.
“I’m sorry, my dear friend. I came a bit late. I was busy. How are you holding up?” Richard asked.
“I’m fine. I still don’t believe she is gone. I just left her to get a cup of honey water. When I came back…” Edward’s voice cracked. “I shouldn’t have left her, Richard. It’s all my fault.”
Richard pulled Edward into a hug.
Words could not comfort someone who had lost a loved one. Only time could heal, along with the support of people around them.
Edward’s eyes flashed as he looked at his wife’s grave.
It had been a mistake, but he had to cover it up by throwing her out of the window. Her eyes had pleaded with him not to do it. But some sacrifices were worth it.
There was no way she would keep quiet after finding out he was responsible for Anderson’s accident.
She was with him now.
He just had to remain here and look after their daughter.
“You should come stay with us for a few days. I don’t want you to be lonely in your house. Staying with your daughter will be best.”
Edward thought about it. It was a good idea. He would be able to keep track of what was happening there, since Vincent’s daughter was trying to pass information to Richard.
Back at the Richard mansion, Butler Rose entered General Richard’s study and began searching through everything.
She opened drawers and checked books, looking for anything useful.
She bent down to look under the table and chairs.
Just under the safe, she saw a folded piece of paper.
