Chapter 171 Did you?
He walked out of the dungeon in full rage.
“Also, find her last family member. Vincent had two girls.” He said moving towards the main house.
He brought his phone out. And dialed a number.
“It's been a while.” He laughed “Get me the names of the people incharge of the armory and ofcourse the names of their family members”
The call ended. How well do you make people do your bids if not by holding something they hold dear. He smiled. That was how Edward played dirty.
He walked into his study, he touched a button and the secret room in his study opened. He stepped inside. It was dark at first but soon he stepped into a full room that had a single bed and a full CCTV system where he could see the Richard household.
Boyle Richards sat on the bed, a long chain draped over his ankle, his eyes fixed on the big screen. He watched his fathers car pull over.
“You must have thought today was the day you would set your feet back there right?” He walked towards the small fridge and pulled a bottle of water, poured it into a cup and drank from it.
Boyle turned to him. “It's just a matter of time, Uncle.” He responded coolly.
“Who let you out Boyle?” Edward asked, his voice tight.
“Check your camera. Why ask me? Or don’t you have an answer to that? You're good at keeping tabs or are things spiraling out of control?” Boyle taunted.
He smashed the cup on a wall. “I have everything under control!!” He roared.
“Doesn’t seem like it.” Boyle said not a bit fazed. “The men who came looking for you. They had the emblem, so I assume you sell the guns to them. You should have confessed when you had the chance. At least Anderson would have been happy in his grave.”
Edward scoffed. “Why did I keep you alive again?.. I’m beginning to regret whatever reason it is.”
“Tell me,” Boyle got up. The chain rattled. He walked towards the table and picked up a book.
“I would like to know too.” He placed the book down on a colorful headband concealing it from view.
“Your father was the first person to ever be nice to me. I couldn’t bring myself to kill you because of that face.” He walked towards the table Boyle stood before.
Boyle's mind palpitated. Edward walked towards there, picked a stick of cigarette, lit it up and took a drag. Boyle breathed in relief.
“Tell me about it? Why betray someone who is nice to you.” Boyle asked.
Edward didn’t have anything to lose. “ I didn’t have a choice. My intention for joining ‘Blackface’ was different. I was sent to get information or put asunder when decisions are about to be made,” he took a drag.
“I was following the script at first but as the years went by. Your father’s kindness. Adison, Oliver, all of them were so kind and pure I began to crack and question why I was sabotaging them when they wanted good for the people. I was also a victim of bad governance. So I stopped giving information to them. Instead I leaked information about the people I was working for to the blackface.”
He clicked his tongue recounting the memories. “I came home that day and I didn't find a pregnant Kiara or Anderson. I read the letter left and I ran to them. They gave me only one choice : to leak the hideout where the meeting was going to take place. And I did. Any body will fucking to that right. It was my family against a bunch of people.” His hand tightened into fist. “And I chose mine.” He roared.
“You were the reason almost a thousand people died?” Boyle asked in disbelief. His father had carried this guilt for years because he had been the leader of the organization.
“I was just as shocked too. I didn’t know that was their plan.”
“So Uncle Oliver is innocent?” Boyle asked.
“He was just a scapegoat to remove attention from me.” Edward said ruthlessly. “The bombing didn’t go well with the people, so there was a coup. Which threw the government official off balance. ” He dropped the cigarette on the floor and stepped on it.
“Some of them were shot by the military then while some fled. I got an award and so did your father. We joined the military.Everything in my life was smooth. I was happy until the first letter came. Their threat. What if the country found out I was the one who betrayed them I panicked. They told me to start sending them ammunition. They gave me the resources I needed.” He shrugged.
“Since then I have been doing pretty good.”
“If they had stayed hidden all this why. Why the sudden appearance?” Boyle asked.
“That’s enough gist for the night Boyle. I have to figure out what to do with you.”
“I have accepted my fate. I would eventually die here. Or would Eva take over, gate keeping me.”
Flashback:
Eight years ago. The day Maverick had brought Eva back home. She went to her fathers study begging him that she wanted to marry Maverick. She heard the rattling sound of a chain. She had seen him come out.
“Brother Boyle?” Her eyes widened in shock.
She looked towards her father in confusion.
She had just come back from paying respect in front of his altar. How come he was here alive in his fathers study?
“Your father is not who you think he is. Call Maverick now?!” Boyle told her.
“Eva, if you call Maverick, do you think he would want to marry you? Sweetheart you would choose between him and your love affair.” Edward didn’t flinch even though inwardly he was shocked but he wanted to see his daughter make the cruel decision.
She did make him proud.
Eva looked at Boyle helplessly. “I’m sorry.” Her lips quivered. “Maverick is my life. I can’t be without him.. I’m sorry..”
End of flashback.
Boyle watched Maverick arrive with Eva. He opened the back of the car and came and brought Havilah out of it.
Edward was at the door when Boyle spoke.
“I remember my Aunty Adison was still on the case after years trying to prove Oliver’s innocence. What did you do to her?”
Edward stiffened.
Boyle saw his reaction. “I remember she was frequently visiting us.My father said she had found some useful information. I didn’t get to know it because I and Anderson had a fatal accident. When I woke up my father accused her saying Oliver sent her because the brakes were tampered with—" he paused as if realizing something.
“Did you?”
