Chapter 23: Twenty three

23.

Edmond's POV.

I looked at the sketches in front of me and wondered how long my friend was going to go bearing my back speaking smack about me to my sister when I had only told him what I didn't want.

He wanted to help me out but I refused point blank.

There was no need for me to go back and forth with him because there was a lot of stress that we were going through that I wanted to make sure that we have been able to achieve.

I was trying to preserve my family's legacy but he saw it as an opportunity to run me down the train and make my sister make me look cheap in her eyes.

We were going to have that conversation but after I had finished set link scores behind his back.

While he kept playing host to her I was going to make sure that I took this opportunity and I did not even let it slide or else there was going to be even a greater problem.

Bryon Mortis sat in front of me with his legs crossed over each other looking like he wanted to say something deeper that was going to cut across boards but I refused to even allow myself get drowned in any of the mix.

"You've not fulfilled your promise in any way. You told us that we had nothing to worry with your sister back on track. Yet she has been in from one hospital to the other and you expect us to believe?"

It was because I was trying to get more commitments before diving into selling my sister off as an exchange for the repayment of the loan.

They couldn't try to outsmart me.

"I know how this looks but you don't expect me to send her off to you in such a state right? There's absolutely nothing wrong in any of the things that has been done. She's only trying to recover like the princess that she is."

I knew that I had stepped on a lot of toes and at some point they were going to try to retaliate but that was where I was willing to bring my friend into.

He was acting crazy about my sister and in this case I needed all the alliance that I could get but he wasn't going to know that I was only doing this for my own potential benefits.

"I think you need to go back and examine the benefits you're going to be getting out of this because it seems like you've suddenly forgotten the things actually matter and you are holding unto the things that don't!" Bryon growled.

He was one of the most respected underdogs and if he was giving orders and I refuse to follow them it was almost like I was digging my own grave.

I didn't know what was involved but I knew that I needed to be as fast as I could get to make sure that there was a common balance and we did not lose sight of that.

"I think you are blowing this out of proportion. You sent your boys to kidnap my sister and you think that it is right for you to demand that I give you anything that you want?" I raised my eyebrows in anger.

Now that we needed to come clear to each other I wanted them to know that I did not joke with my sister no matter what amount of pressure I was going through.

"You think the best way to talk to us is by suddenly pretending that you love your sister? You love the fact that we are going to be giving you everything that you'd always wanted without you working for it from the bottom to the top!" His slammed his hands on the table.

Of course he was going to come with such accusations thinking that I would not be able to defend myself but I looked him straight in the eyes and laughed.

"While I agree to your descriptions I also think that you are in the same boat as me." I sneered.

"Why the hell are you held it on having my sister at your side when they are a lot of women that you could pick from? That tells me that is something more that you need that you can only get from her!"

Having trade-offs were supposed to be a respectful process where nobody thought that the other was trying to take advantage of them but in his case he was acting like I was the one who was crazy about everything he wanted to give to me even if I knew that I wanted that alliance.

There was no need for him to rub it in my face. I had a worthy consolation price and I was going to talk about it however I wanted.

Bryon relaxed in his seat and burst into laughter after realizing what I had just said. "Sometimes I wonder how people just come up with ideas that doesn't even make any sense and you are part of those people. You are one of the most crazy people that I have ever met and you think that I would be here..."

"If you didn't think that my sister was going to do you any good? You say you are doing me a favor by clearing my debts I say that it is a win-win situation." I maintained my position

"If I decide not to take your offer anymore it's not going to affect me or calls me any pain. I would suddenly see someone else who would be able to form an alliance with me and then we kickstart all the plans that we already have." I threatened them.

I had been waiting for this alliance because I thought of the long-term and how it was going to secure my children's future.

My sister would have to sacrifice herself at least to some extent before I could turn my back on them.

Bryon brought out his vape and dragged a long and hard one from it still looking up me like I was crazy.

"You know if anyone have told me that I would be battling with someone who doesn't even have the slightest idea of what life is about to throw on him I would have told you myself that he was lying." He commented.

More drags and I was just looking for ways to understand what the hell he was talking about without acting like a complete naive person.

"He probably thinks that he can get away with making a deal and turning his back on it. You are great the first time I am holding on to your words. Nothing you say is going to change that so you better brace yourself..." He slammed the thick Manila envelope on my table before heading out.

I flipped through the pages heading towards the place where I knew that a marker was going to be and so my sister's picture with an X on it.

The threat was clear. If I refuse to turn her in just like I had to set in the beginning she was going to be killed.
