Chasing shadows

Ronan POV

Harsh lights. Flickering on my eyes and making it even difficult to continue to keep them shut.

Slowly I opened up my eyes to adjust to my surrounding. The harsh light was the sun rays flickering through the windows.

The air carried sex, the image of my fresh night still prolonged in my head, I whipped my head. Expecting to see her sleeping form next to me.

Only that the bed was empty and devoid of her. That had me sitting up immediately. I looked left and right.

Empty.

She couldn’t possibly have left already, right? I bolted to my feet, I checked the bathroom and even the dresser.

Empty. my heart was immediately seized to a state of panic.

When she’d declared her wanting to leave me, I had done everything in me to reject that idea. But I couldn’t even stop her cause I was soundly asleep.

I tried to calm my head with reasons. She said she was to stay back here, which means no matter what she should still be here, I just have to find her and make her see sense.

My body was already moving to dress up before my mind concluded it’s decisions.

I moved towards the left wing of the palace to find her, all I could notice was stationed guards and moving maids.

And with each time I didn’t find her. It felt like a strange hollow descending upon me.

“Ronan.”

The call had me stopping. I turned. Lena.

She walked towards me with precision,

“Where’s she?”

Lena took deep breaths. “She left already.”

I fisted my hands tight. To stop myself from pouncing on her.

“Where to?”

“What does it matter, she’s gone, and it’ll be in your best—“

I stormed towards her with a stare so deadly I knew she would tremble on her insides.

“Where is she?”

Lena folded her hands. While maintaining my heated stare with her fierce and angered one.

“She left with the witch Annika. She would stay with her at the witch haven, until she learns her full power.”

That had to be the dumbest shit they could have ever planned,

“Wasn’t she supposed to remain here?”

“She was, but she changed her mind, thinking you’ll not let her leave,”

That caused my chest to sting, I ignored it, to focus on the true and important thing at stake.

Her return.

“Taking her To a stranger is completely foolish, taking her to a witch to learn how to use lobizona powers is even more foolish.”

Lena scowl deepen. “It’s deeper than that, I trust Annika, Annika has the power to handle her outbursts. I don’t. I thought I did, and because of that I lost twenty students, so it may seem foolish to you, but I hope one day you understand the importance of making foolish decisions.”

She stormed off angrily, before I could counter respond.

She was acting from a place of fear and worry, and as much as I wanted to vent. I did understand what it was to protect people you’re responsible for,

But Sera. That I couldn’t understand, She had purposely left earlier and gone with Annika. All so I wouldn’t follow her.

It felt like betrayal. Stung like betrayal. I wanted to find her and cage her up, at the same time I wanted to forget her and act like she also didn’t mean a shit to me.

Running my hands through my head. I already knew the decisions that I would go with.

I could never live without her, she was my light. And even if she didn’t want it now. It still didn’t change the truth of things.

Lena and I were allowed to leave the palace after a few more official procedures. She insisted that I returned with her to the academy and threatened to call upon my parents if I refused.

I knew she was scared of me actually seeking out sera. And she was right to be, cause that was what I was planning to do.

We got to the academy escorted by the royal guard in a Chevron Jeep.

I headed straight to my room to begin gathering informations of the witch haven and how to penetrate in there and steal sera.

I was checking my laptop for any available and helpful information, but all that was there was pictures of the witch haven. No address. No additional info.

I fisted my hands, the witches used magic to transport not cars. That’s why they didn’t see the need for locations input. As long as you can see it, you can find it.

That’s their bio,

There was a knock on my door.

But I was in no mood to entertain anyone. So I stayed quiet in hopes that they would leave.

Only that the door opened by itself on the second knocking.

Ciaran.

The last person I wanted to be dealing with right now.

“Do you hope to lose your head by coming in here?”

“Nice to see you too.” He replied sourly. His eyes scanning my room.

“Still as dead and lonely as I remembered. I suppose it’ll always go with you who you are.”

“Get to the point bloodsucker,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Don’t go after her.”

I rolled my eyes and turned back to the laptop.

It seems lena got to him.

“You’ll be selfish to do it, she needs this. And if you take this away from her, she’ll forever be lost, and she’ll hate you for it,”

“What did lena promise you? More humans to kill as snacks?”

He snarled, “I’m doing this for her! She wrote me to do this, she begged me to do this.”

That had me pausing, she’d contacted him, but not me. It goes far to prove that she didn’t want anything with me.

My heart sunk even lower.

“Do you want more students dying?”

“I don’t give a shit about other people or their fate, she’s all that matters,”

“Then you’re even a bigger fool than I thought.”

I was standing up and next thing pushing him up on the nearest wall.

He resisted, but I held my firm hold.

“Just one bite and you’re dead. You’re the foolish one for threatening a Alpha wolf in his room, now get out, before I make an example of my threats,”

I pushed him off, he returned it with a glare, but he did stand up to leave.

Sera may think she doesn’t want me. But she’s confused, she may think she’s doing the right thing, but there’s nothing right about sacrificing her life and peace for the sake of other people.

The very people that stabbed her back and only treated her with hatred.

I stood up to leave, the laptop didn’t help, but I knew of an old friend, a witch, she can help me get to the haven.

I tried passing through my front door to leave, but a Sheer force pulled me back so hard that I tumbled to the floor. The shock ran through my body,

Causing a pain to settle in my leg.  What the actual hell.

I stood up again. This time, I didn’t try to pass, I held my hands up, and pushed through the air.

Then I felt it.

A barrier.

Someone placed a barrier to stop me from leaving. The very thought made me murderous.

I turned my head to find lena standing by the door, with a satisfied smile.

“What’s the meaning of this bullshit?” I queried angrily.

“Precautionary measures. You’ll thank me for it some day,”

I tried to breath to my nostrils.

“You can’t keep me locked up, you have no right.”

“No. But I have your parents rights.”

At that, I hit the barrier hard, but it pushed me back with the same force, causing me to hit my back to the wall.

The pain was more intense this time. Shooting up to my spine.

“The more you try to get out. The more your strength is weakened. The wise thing. Just enjoy your stay.”

She was already leaving, the rage burned through me. She had no damn right, and if I broke through this barrier, her neck would be what I snap first,

Sera needed me. And right now she’d just taken the chance for me to prove myself to her, my love. My devotion.

I headed for the door again, and the same action was repeated.

She was damn right. The pain did intensify even more, it felt like my body was losing the damn strength it very much needed to break the barrier.

But I wasn’t about to give up, I wasn’t about to accept defeat.
And so I tried again, only to end up failing. By the sixth time, I could barely get my body to stand up,

It was as though my body became glued to the floor,

Sera needed me.

That’s all I could keep chanting, as my body failed and my eyes became even more weak.

Soon everything faded into black.
