Chapter 83
"We are waiting" Tricia said
"I swear I know nothing. The truth is...I was in California a few weeks ago for some important conferences. I was having lunch at this restaurant when a familiar face walked in. It was Godfrey and you needed to see the terror on my face. He was with this lady and they sat behind me. I overheard their discussion and they talked about destroying Monalisa and I came to the realisation that the Monalisa being spoken of is your Monalisa. I decided to find you. I found out you were in L.A. I decided to come down to L.A and find you. I don't know how but I will."
"Well he found me and took his revenge on me. He ruined everything I held so dear to my heart. Here I am, shattered and heart broken"
"I also blamed Jayden for this too. If he truly loved you, he wouldn't believe what he saw. Maybe he never loved you for someone who had a flash marriage with you "
"No it's not "
"How well do you know him? You guys dated only for a month and rushed into marriage "
"Hold on, hold on. I'm confused and lost right now. You're married Monalisa?
"She was married"
"I'm still married until we're officially divorced"
"Oh you're getting the divorce papers soon"
"Wait! Married... divorce papers? Flash Marriage? What's going on?
I sat up and narrated the entire story to Donald. My first meeting with Jayden, our friendship, our relationship, honeymoon and our marriage and I told him about Cynthia and all her plots to get me out of marriage, about Godfrey and how he found me with the help of Cynthia and how Cynthia ruined it all for me and my mum, how I blamed my mum for ruining everything.
"Hold on. Your mum...you met your mum too? That's nice. But why do you still hate your mum?
"I hate her because she was the reason I almost got married to Godfrey. She supported dad and exposed me to dad. She was the reason for my failed attempts to escape from my home. She is the one to blame"
"But she's also the reason you successfully fled the wedding"
"What are you saying?
"Well...she had asked me to keep it a secret. Actually, your mum and I met up and planned to help you escape. She was helpless and needed to act as though she was okay with the wedding so as to win your father's trust. On your wedding day, she made sure no guards were mounted at those routes I had followed to take you away from home that's why it was impossible for your family and the guards to find us. She planned it all and perfectly executed it. And here you are. You shouldn't hate her"
"You are lying right?
"No I'm not. I'm telling you the truth"
"And all these while I thought she wanted me to marry Godfrey. I hated her so much that I cursed at her. She was here, all she wanted was to hold her precious daughter in her arms and I ruined it all. I'm the worst daughter ever"
"No Bess, no you are not. Your anger is justified. You had no idea. Don't beat yourself up Bess"
"I need to be left alone"
"Bess..."
"I'll be alone in my room"
I rose on my feet and left for my room. Just a few steps close to my door , I felt my head spinning. I tried getting a hold of something but I couldn't.
"Donald! I called out to him before losing consciousness and falling to the ground.
Tricia and Donald rushed over to me and found me lying on the floor.
Donald lifted me and carried me in his arms to my room.
He gently placed me on the bed while Tricia left for the kitchen.
Tricia returned with a bottle of water and a glass cup.
She quickly poured some water into the cup while Donald searched my bag for my drugs.
He took out the medical report and immediately tore it open.
"My goodness! Bess! I see why she's this way"
"I see that too"
Donald's voice was filled with sadness.
Tricia poured a little water into her hand and sprinkled it on my face, making me conscious again.
Donald helped me up.
"What's wrong? What happened to me? How did I get inside".
"You fainted"
"Yes Bess. You scared us but not to worry. It's not bad"
"What do you mean by that?
"You are pregnant " Donald broke news.
"I was supposed to inform her".
"Oh I'm sorry that I informed her. Congratulations " he said and walked away.
"What is his problem? Well, congratulations Monalisa. You're going to be a mother "
"You mean...a single mother?
"What? Hey! Maybe you should inform Jayden about this. Maybe, it would make him have a change of mind and accept you back. "
"No thanks.
"Don't you want to go back?
"I do. I want to be with Jayden so badly. I want to be in his arms, I want him cuddling and kissing me, and then... we'll have a great sex. It miss it all"
"Maybe, he was meant to be a temporary guy...you know?
"Temporary guy and I'm with his child? I believe we'll be together again. Maybe someday "
"Remember I told you that you two will get united? This child will reunite you and Jayden someday. Maybe by then, he has found out the truth and kicked Cynthia out of his life."
"Thank you Bess"
"I'll be right back "
"Sure"
Tricia returned back to the kitchen with the bottle of water and glass cup.
She looked outside through the window and saw Donald pacing around.
Tricia left to meet him with a glass of water.
"Drink some water and you will be fine"
"Why? I'm not thirsty"
"I saw it"
"Saw what?
"I saw how sad the news of her pregnancy made you. You were sad she was married and now...the news of her pregnancy actually shattered you. You love her right?
"What are you saying? Monalisa and I are just friends"
"Really? Maybe, to her, you two are just friends. What about you?
"What about me?
"Do you actually think that you two are just friends? If you can man up and admit that you love her. I might actually root for you two to be together. I mean she's better off without Jayden"
"I don't know what you are talking about"
"Then why are you here? Pacing around, sad and mourning"
"What the...? Forget it. I was just lost in thought. I'm still unsettled with this Godfrey's issue. What's that lady's name again?
"Cynthia. What about her?
"Nothing. I can't believe all these are happening to Monalisa. "
"She's a strong girl and she'll pull through it all".
"May I confide in you "
"Sure. Tell me"
"I want to take Monalisa away from here, I want to take her with me back to New York city "
"What why?
"I've got a company"
"What sort of company is that?
"A fashion company. She can come work for me. She's a good designer. Maybe then...she will return back to L.A and launch her line and still live a good life with her child "
"That's nice. That's a good idea. I support it. I really want her to move on. I'm with you in this. You're such a good friend. Come here and give me a hug"
Tricia pulled him closer and wrapped her hands around him.
"Okay, that's enough hugging for today"
"I'm sorry. I was carried away by emotions. I'm glad that Monalisa has friends like us, who truly love and care about her"
"I hope she accepts my proposal"
"Of course she will. I'll definitely convince her to do so"
"That's good to know. Thank you"
"It's no big deal. I'll be inside then"
"Sure."
"Come soon for lunch"
"Yes" Donald exhaled softly. "As for returning back to L.A I don't think I will let that happen. In fact, I will never let that happen. I'm going to take you away from all the pains and give you all the happiness in the world and finally make you my woman. I lost you once, I'm not going to lose you again, Monalisa and that's because...I love you so much. I've loved you since childhood and I couldn't summon enough courage to confess my feelings to you. I think fate has given me another chance to do so, and I'm not going to blow up that chance and let you go. I'm willing to accept your child as mine just to make you happy and show you how much I love you. I love you so..."
"You love who? I asked cutting Donald short. I could see fear in his eyes.
"Did she hear me say all those things? He mumbled.
"You love who? I asked stepping forward..
Donald clenched his palms, his was sweating on his forehead.
I reached out to my napkin and began to wipe his sweat off his forehead.
"No keeping of secrets. Who are you in love with?
"With... with...."
"Guys! Lunch is ready! Tricia called out from inside.
"We're coming! Donald hurried inside. "I hope she didn't hear"
"Why is he acting up. I was just teasing him. But does he love someone?
"Bess! Come eat. I bet the Baby needs some food".
"Ah!! Go ahead and announce it to the world! I'm coming " I replied and rushed inside.
