I stood in the calm cold night, ironically this type of silence and darkness was relaxing to me, i waited a few minutes to make sure i had not woken anyone and that no one would come and disturb me while i smoked. As soon as i was sure that no one had followed i lit the smoke that i had rolled. I slumped down against the wall and slowly puffed my way through the smoke. As soon as i finished i stood up and was immediately met with thelight headed feeling that followed. I quietly opened the back door and made my way inside. I locked the door quietly behind me and was immediately greeted by my sister who was stood in the kitchen staring at me she whispered
“ what are you doing outside?”
I thought for a moment, i would have to choose my reply carefully otherwise i was going to be in trouble. My sister had a knack for telling on me even for the smallest thing. She continued to stare at me as i slowly stated
“ sorry i felt abit sick so thought i would get some air i didnt mean to wake you”
She smirked as she nodded, she seemed to accept this tale i had spun. She got herself a glass of water and headed back up the stairs, as soon as she was out of the kitchen i let out a sigh of relief. That was a close call and i knew if she had been awake and not half asleep she would have picked up on the smell. I also knew that if my mum wokeup and came downstairs at any point she would also notice this smell. I looked through the kitchen cupboards as quietly as i could, every noise set my hairs on end and made me panic slightly as i eventually found what i was after. The airfreshener seemed like it was the loudest thing i had ever used as i sprayed the kitchen and myself. I knew this would atleast mask the smell for the time being.
As soon as i got into my bedroom i sprayed myself and the room with my deodorant and laid myself into bed. I was greeted by darkness and nothing else. I slipped into sleep yet again and was met by darkness and peace. I slept but not a deep and refreshing sleep. I woke to the sound of my alarm buzz and beep. I slapped the top button to put it on snooze. This was unusual as normally i would turn it off and get up immediately. My alarm buzzed again and this time i woke myself properly, i still felt like i hadnt slept at all but what was new there. It took my brain a moment to switch on properly and i immediately knew that i had not beaten my sister to the bathroom this morning.
I was stood outside the bathroom door when my sister eventually emerged, again wearing what could only be described as an appalling excuse fro a uniform. As soon as she left the bathroom i ran inside and went through my normal morning routine. This morning however i noticed a large red mark running down on both sides of my back from my shoulder blades to about a quarter of the way down. I continued to look at it until i almost snapped out of this trance. I got myself in the shower and assumed that these marks were from where i must have slept at a dodgy angle and these were simple pressure marks. I checked when i got out the shower and they were still there but not quiet as visible as they had been before.
I made my way down the stairs and had my breakfast. Mum was not hree this morning and i could only assume that she had been called into work early, this happened from time to time especially when another employee was ill. I finished my toast and jam and grabbed my school bag, i headed out the door and locked the house behind me. For once my sister had been ready and left before me, as i walked along the usual route to school i cam across mick who seemed very down. I closed the gap between myself and him and as i got closer he looked at me and just shook hs head. I knew i had upset him but i just couldnt be bothered with all the drama that came with it. He spoke in a tone that was as cold as ice.
“ oh so now im good enough for you to hang out with am i ? where were you on sunday. We had everything set up and ready to go and you didnt turn up. I tried calling you and just kept getting your answer phone. I thought about going to ask your mum if everything was ok but then abbey told me you wee hanging out with josh”
I gave him an apologetic look as i shrugged my shoulders. I didnt even bother trying to explain myself to him as i knew he wouldnt understand. Unlike me he had always been happy to be an outcast and he didnt really care what others thought about him. I on the other hand had longed to bask in the same light as the popular cool kids and now i had been given that chance i wasnt going to give it up. We carried on with the walk and when we reached the park i saw josh walking towards us. I waved to him and he waved back in a way that was inviting me over. I gave a sideways glance to mick who just gave me a look of resignation to me.
I walked over to josh and carried on with the walk with him and his friends. We arrived at the school and josh invited me to the back field with him and the other cool kids. I followed knowing that this was going to be the turning point. I was no longer the outcast, i finally had my time to bask in the light of popularity. I spent the time before school started on the back field chatting with josh and his friends who were all curious as to how me and josh had actually become friends. I had no clue hot to answer this question as i was still unsure as to why josh had decided that i now deserved a place amongst his friends.
“ he came to this house party and seemed like a chill hang, i also took him to meet jordan so you could say we are now business partners in a sense.”
I had not expected this reply but i was relieved that he had answered them. I sat nnodding at what he said when the bell rang. I headed to our tutor room and sat in my normal spot. Abbey walked into the room looking more down than i had ever seen her before and the sight of her looking ike this nearly broke my heart in two. I felt a wrenching in my chest and a lump in my throat. As she sat next to me she didnt even bother to look at me instead she took out a note pad and started making notes about D&D. from what i could see it looked like she had taken over as the Dungeon master and was planning their next session. I tried to talk to her but she just ignored me.
