Chapter 36 Enemy Within

Chapter 36 Enemy Within
“Who could that be?” Russell asked with a whisper, turning to the door just like Mia.

A few seconds later, the door opened, and Alara walked in with slow steps.

When she saw the Alpha, she halted, taking a deep breath.

“I didn’t expect to see you here.” She muttered, looking away from the Alpha’s angry face.

She turned to Mia, and then she cleared her throat.

“I came to apologize for last night, Mia. I didn’t mean to put you in harm’s way.”

“I know,” Mia responded with a smile, and then she walked up to Alara without getting rid of it.

Alara’s countenance was plain at first, but as Mia drew closer, it was etched with curiosity, her eyes fixed on her.

Mia stood in front of her and sighed heavily.

“I know you would never try to hurt me intentionally.” Mia chuckled softly, and then she embraced Alara.

“Last night was beginning to be fun until those three came to ruin it,” Mia whispered, wrapping her arms around Alara.

Alara’s eyes widened in shock, and just when she met eyeball to eyeball with the Alpha, she looked away at once.

Mia finally let go of her, but a few seconds later, she grabbed her hands and looked her in the eyes with her smile intact.

“I know you are worried about him. She gestured to Russell without looking back at him.

Alara sighed heavily, stealing a glance at the Alpha.

“Don’t worry. I will talk to him.” Mia assured, and then she let go of Alara who left the room at once.

Mia waited until she was gone, and then she returned to the Alpha.

Russell’s eyes were still glaring as though his sister was still in the room with them.

“I see you two have become very close.”

Mia chuckled softly, and then she inched closer to the Alpha, her expression plain and unreadable.

She took a deep breath, and a smile took over at once.

“You know you are not going to be angry at her forever, right? She didn’t mean to put me in danger.”

“Yeah. But she did.” Russell grunted, anger glittering in his eyes.

“As for those three idiots.” He snarled, clenching his fists tightly.

“They are going to pay for what they have done. That’s a promise.”

Mia said nothing.

It was almost like she had been silenced by the rage she felt emitting from the Alpha.

Russell pointed to the tray he had kept on the table.

“You should get something to eat, Mia. You must be hungry.”

“Yes, I am.” Mia nodded, but then she didn’t seem satisfied.

“But I don’t think I am hungry for that kind of food.” She sighed softly, her expression twisting into bemusement.

“There is this strange craving, Russell. It’s quite different.” She looked the Alpha in the eyes, and seeing his shiny orbs, she was convinced that he had the solution to her problem.

“I think I know just the right place for us to go.” Russell chuckled softly, and then he looked at the time on his wristwatch.

“Get ready, Mia. We will be leaving in the next hour.”

“Where are we going?” Mia asked, eager to get a response.

Russell looked at her with a smile, and then he took a deep breath.

“It’s a surprise, Mia. But don’t worry, you will love it.” He walked to the door, and as soon as he opened it, he returned his gaze to her, his smile still intact.

“We leave in the next hour, Mia.” He reminded her, and then he left.

On his way to his chamber, he heard a familiar voice, and looking toward the staircase, he sped toward it, descending in less than five seconds.

He met the Beta walking toward the staircase through the living room.

“Why are you here so early?” Russell asked, his brows arched.

Marcus sighed heavily, yet he couldn’t get rid of the concerns that had twisted the muscles on his face.

“Have you seen this?” He showed the screen of his phone to the Alpha, pushing it closer to his face.

Russell leaned forward, and then he read the caption on the post.

“Lycan King saves someone in Nyx Club. Could the strange Damsel be his Luna?”  He grunted, clenching his fists tightly.

“These foolish bloggers! Do they ever make enquiries before posting such?!” He growled inwardly the moment his eyes went to the pictures below the caption.

“How did I miss that?” He tried to recall if he had seen anyone taking pictures of him as he carried Mia out of the club, but everything had happened so fast that he could hardly remember anything.

“You have to take care of that, Marcus.” He pointed to the screen, taking a deep breath.

“I don’t want anyone snooping into my business.”

Marcus nodded, slowly taking down his phone.

He pocketed the device after taking a brief look at the post.

“But they are not entirely wrong, are they?” He waited for a response, but the Alpha stared silently.

“I don’t think you read the article, Russell. They say she looks like a certain Mia Coleman who is mated to the Alpha of Willow Pack, Darrell.”

“Was,” Russell corrected at once, taking a deep breath.

He left the Beta dumbfounded, walking to take a seat.

“Darrell rejected her the very night I met her. She now belongs to me.”

Marcus scoffed, watching as the Alpha adjusted himself on the couch.

“So they were right.” He stood just two meters away from the Alpha, staring at him without blinking.

He was silent for a few seconds, and then he cleared his throat, taking a deep breath.

“You know what this means, right?” He waited for the Alpha to respond, but when Russell said nothing, he continued with a whisper.

“You have to claim her, Russell. Claim her or you will be labeled a thief.”

“What did I steal?” Russell asked, staring with a wry smile.

“Alpha Darrell’s mate, Russell. They will say you stole his mate from him.”
