Chapter 109: Chapter 37.1

I couldn't leave Desmond because my conscience wouldn't let me. When daylight came, I finally went home. It was still early in the morning, but I could already hear my son crying. I hurried inside because it sounded like his babysitter couldn't calm him down anymore.

“Jessica,” I called.

“Ma'am Heaven, I'm so sorry. Daryl won't stop crying. I think he's been looking for you since last night,” Jessica said worriedly. I quickly took Daryl from her arms and tried to calm him down.

“He's been like this since last night?” I asked anxiously.

“He had a hard time sleeping last night because you weren't here, ma'am, he only fell asleep after crying himself out. He woke up twice earlier and kept crying, then when he woke up again just now, he wouldn't stop crying anymore,” she answered. I gently rocked Daryl in my arms, he finally stopped crying, although he was still sobbing.

“I'm sorry, sweetheart. Mommy couldn't come home last night because I had something to do. Ssshh, don't cry anymore. Mommy's here now,” I comforted him. I continued rocking him until he fell asleep again.

“He hasn't eaten yet, ma'am. I tried feeding him earlier, but he refused. He was looking for you,” Jessica added softly.

I sat down on the sofa since my son was already asleep. Guilt suddenly washed over me because I hadn't gone home last night. I couldn't leave Desmond either, especially when I knew he wasn't feeling well.

I let my son sleep peacefully in my arms. I'd just go to work later. I wanted to make sure he had eaten first.

When my cellphone rang, I answered it.

“Where are you? Aren't you coming to work?” Desmond asked. So he still went to the company? The moment he felt a little better, he immediately went back to work.

“I'll come later. I just have something to do here at home. Don't bury yourself in work, get some rest too. What if you get sick again?” I reminded him.

“My beautiful nurse is there anyway. It's okay if I get sick again.” I could only shake my head at him. He was treating getting sick like it was some kind of joke.

“Alright then. I'll see you later.”

“I love you.”

I smiled. I still felt shy replying to him.

“I love you too,” I answered. I don't know why, but I could almost picture him grinning on the other end. I ended the call.

I waited for my son to wake up. He had been sleeping for two hours since I arrived home, but he was still sleeping soundly. It looked like he hadn't slept well last night, which was why he was so exhausted now.

When he woke up, he didn't cry anymore. I apologized to him and fed him. After that, I told him I had to leave. He liked Jessica as his babysitter, but once night came, he didn't want Jessica anymore because he only wanted me beside him.

It was almost lunchtime when I arrived at the company. I was just about to step into the elevator when I heard someone call my name.

“Heaven!” I looked over and saw Scarlett glaring at me furiously. The elevator doors closed on their own.

“You bitch!” I still heard her shout.

I didn't have time to deal with her. She couldn't catch the elevator before the doors closed. Judging by how angry she was, Desmond must have already talked to her. But why was she angry at me? I was Desmond's wife long before she ever came into his life. Was there really anything she could still do to make their wedding happen? No matter how angry she got at me, she and Desmond were never going to get married.

I could only sigh. I went straight to my office first. I wanted to put my bag down before going to Desmond's office.

“Heaven!” I heard Scarlett's loud voice again. Did she really chase after me?

I turned to look at her before entering my office. She stormed toward me, looking like she was ready to tear me apart.

“What?” I answered flatly.

“What exactly is your relationship with Desmond? Tell me, Desmond is lying. How can you possibly be his wife? We were already together before you even came to the company, so how could the two of you already be married? Answer me!” she shouted through gritted teeth. I took a deep breath to calm myself.

I met her furious gaze without backing down.

“Desmond already told you, didn't he? Which part of what he said don't you understand? Why do you still need to ask me if what he told you is true? What do you want? Do you want me to wave our marriage certificate right in front of your face before you'll finally believe it?”

“So, it's true? If the two of you are already married, then why would Chairman still agree for us to get married? The two of you are lying. I'll talk to Dad and tell him everything about your lies! Why would the Velasquez family ever choose you? Your family has nothing to be proud of! Do you really think your life will improve just because Desmond married you? In your dreams, Heaven! I'm the only woman worthy of Desmond. If Chairman doesn't know about this yet, I'll tell him everything!” she shouted, while I remained completely calm.

“Do whatever you want, Miss Scarlett. I'm not stopping you. If you want to talk to Chairman, then go ahead and do it now so you can finally have some peace of mind,” I answered expressionlessly before turning my back on her. I was about to open my office door when she suddenly grabbed my hair.

“You slut! You're not the woman for Desmond! You have no right to steal him from me! You witch!”

“Let me go!” I shouted, then pinched the hand that was gripping my hair.

“Ouch!” she cried out, causing her to let go of my hair. I turned to face her angrily.

“How did I become the slut here? Go ask Chairman if Desmond and I are really married. I didn't steal him from you because Desmond has always been mine from the very beginning!” She was about to lunge at me again, but I shoved her hard, making her fall to the floor. A lot of employees were already watching us, but I wasn't afraid.

“You homewrecker! You just got here, and you already seduced Desmond! What did you do to him? Did you make him drink some love potion? You witch!”

“If you refuse to believe me, then go ask Chairman yourself so you'll finally believe it. I didn't steal anything from you, Miss Scarlett. I am truly Desmond Velasquez's wife, Mrs. Heaven Velasquez,” I declared firmly, making it crystal clear who I was.

The employees watching us immediately began whispering among themselves. When I noticed Desmond casually leaning against the wall with a smug grin on his face, I cleared my throat.

He pushed himself away from the wall, walked over to me, and wrapped an arm around my waist.

“Let's go, I'm hungry. You shouldn't have wasted your energy on her because it looks like she won't believe anything until she sees our marriage certificate,” he murmured, then looked at Scarlett, who was still sitting on the floor. Desmond raised one hand, revealing the wedding ring on his finger.

“This is my wedding ring, Scarlett. I've been wearing it every single day, didn't you ever notice?” he said, then pulled me away from there.

I couldn't help but be surprised because he still hadn't taken off his wedding ring until now. Had he really never removed it ever since we separated?
