Chapter 67 The kiss
Chapter 67 The kiss
Lyra’s POV
“You can't stay a second away from him, right?”
I looked at Jackson. “Huh?”
He laughed. “Your head isn't even here right now.”
I brushed my hair behind my ear.
“Why are you absent-minded?”
“I'm not,” I said.
“I see you looking out the clear window. You are thinking of him?”
I stayed silent.
He placed his hand on my thigh. I adjusted myself as he gripped it, his eyes fixed on the road and his left hand on the steering wheel. “Ever been to a club?”
I shook my head.
“Ever gotten drunk?”
I shook my head, my eyes fixed on his hand against my thigh. I cleared my throat. “I haven't.”
I felt his hand tighten on the fabric against my thigh.
“Can you get your hand off me?”
His hand slowly moved away. “Of course. Sorry,” he quickly apologized.
The car fell silent for a few seconds before he spoke again. “While I was away in London… did you miss me?”
I looked at him. “No.”
“Ouch.” He smiled. It looked forced, like his face was going to break through that smile.
“You were all I could think of.”
Silence fell in the car again. Soon we pulled up in front of a large building. There were parked cars lined up in the place. Jackson quickly drove into one of the empty spaces.
I reached for the doorknob to step out of the car.
“I'll get you,” he said.
I looked back at him. “What?”
His expression turned serious, stern, something dark in his eyes as he continued. “I'll make you mine, Lyra. I don't care what my cousin says. I don't care what you say. I will get you.”
I gripped the doorknob tight. “Why? Why do you want me so much?”
“You are beautiful. You are smart…”
“You only want me to get back at your cousin and you know it.” He fell silent. Our gazes lingered before he spoke again. “That's not true.”
I sighed and turned away from him. “I'm just a maid, Jackson. You are wealthy. You can get any girl you want.”
“I want you, Lyra.”
I shook my head and stepped down from the car. Just then, Salvatore’s car pulled into the compound. The girls had already parked in a corner.
Jackson stepped down from the car and began to head towards the building. I looked at Salvatore. His eyes were already on me. Looking back down, I began to walk past him.
My heart skipped a bit as I felt his hand brush against my waist as I walked past, subtle so no one noticed.
I looked back at him and looked away.
Mia had reserved a private spot for us in the club. It was almost dark with red lights. There were men and women, mostly older than us, dancing in each other's arms.
Loud music boomed throughout the place. I could feel the vibrations under my feet.
Mia had her arm around Salvatore’s as they moved to sit in our private booth. As we all sat, ladies dressed in waitress uniforms began to walk to us with drinks. I could tell they were alcohol.
I saw Mia whispering words into Salvatore’s ears.
I sighed in resignation and pressed my back against my seat. Jackson poured me a glass and handed it to me.
I stared at him for a few seconds. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to get drunk. I grabbed the glass from him and chugged it down my throat.
But I regretted it instantly.
It burned.
I parted my lips and hissed.
Jackson laughed and drew closer as he poured me another glass. I quickly chugged it down as well.
Mia’s laughter suddenly erupted throughout the air, overpowering the loud music. I looked at them.
“You are so funny, Salvatore,” she placed her hand on his chest as she laughed.
Anna and Lola were chatting. They had already opened a glass of wine.
I stretched my glass to Jackson and he poured more.
I chugged it down again. “Easy there. Do you think you can hold your liquor?”
I shook my head.
That was the whole point.
I wanted to get drunk and forget seeing Mia touching Salvatore all over.
I looked away and continued to drink.
A few minutes passed and I had finished two bottles. My whole body felt heavy, especially my eyelids which I struggled to keep open.
“Another glass.” I stretched my hand to Jackson.
Jackson smiled and uncorked the lid from a bottle.
“Don’t pour another drink into her glass,” Salvatore said loudly, his voice authoritative.
I looked at him and pouted. “But I want some wine.”
He looked at Jackson. “She's drunk. I don't think she can take more.”
“Stop trying to control the lady,” Jackson said and poured the wine.
I smiled and my head flung back. I felt as if I would throw up, but I still poured the wine into my mouth.
My bladder was full. I stood up and staggered forward. Salvatore tried to stand up, a worried expression in his eyes, but Mia pulled him down.
“Hey,” Jackson grabbed me to steady me. “Why did you get up?”
“I need to pee,” I said calmly.
“Come on,” he said and began to lead me through the crowd. I followed him until we reached a bathroom. It was unisex with different stalls. He led me to a stall and stopped.
“Do you want me to go in with you?” he asked, his hand rubbing my back.
I shook my head, slid off my coat and tossed it at him.
He gripped it tightly and blinked at me. His eyes narrowed as he scanned me in my short skirt and tank top. I had worn it for Salvatore.
My heels clicked against the tiled floor as I walked into the stall. A few seconds later I emerged, shutting the door. I walked towards the sink to wash my hands.
His eyes followed me.
“You look good,” he walked towards me. “Are you dressed like this for Salvatore?”
I forced my eyes open and nodded.
I saw his eyes through the mirror. He looked at me lustfully. “Get your eyes off me,” I said and turned to face him.
He stepped closer. “How can I…” His voice trailed off. I looked up at him. The weight of the alcohol seemed to get stronger. I stumbled backwards. With one hand he grabbed my waist and pulled me back against himself.
I breathed. “Nice catch,” I said.
His eyes scanned my face. “Yeah…” he said calmly. I watched his head tilt to the side and he suddenly locked his lips onto min
e.
I placed both hands on his chest, my eyes growing wide as I tried to push him back, but he pushed me against the sink, his lips sinking into mine.
