Chapter 6

Julia Instead of waking up to breakfast in bed and a handsome man smiling at me, I was greeted by the cold hard floor and a six-year-old laughing in my face.

"Get out of my room Ajax and go get ready for school," Emmie says before walking over to me. I watch as the little brown boy run out of the room while still laughing, he was really cute and shared similar features with his sister, "Are you Okay?"

I was still rubbing my back after falling out of the sofa in Emmie's room. I ended up here yesterday after she was passing by in her dad's truck and saw me sitting on the side of the road around six pm. Unfortunately, I could only stay for one night, her father did say I could stay for longer, but I would prefer not to be a burden to them by exceeding my stay. Although, I don't want to face Xavier after what happened yesterday.

"I'll live," I say, while standing from the floor.

"It's almost seven thirty shouldn't you be getting ready for work? Your new boss doesn't seem like the nicest person."

She asked about my job last night again and I ended up telling her the details.

I watch as Emmie moves over to her small vanity and start removing the plats from her hair. Unlike me she didn't have natural curls and that's how she gets the curly look.

Her words finally register in my mind, and I started to panic, "Oh crap, how am I going to get to Livingston by eight?"

"I can ask dad to drop you off, he works over there anyway, but you'll still be late since it takes like an hour to get there."

I groan and grab my bag that was sitting next to the sofa, "I don't normally wake up this late, I'm always up before six."

Emmie turns around in her chair and gives me a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry Julia, if I woke up earlier, I would have woken you."

"It's fine Emmie, if your dad will give me a ride then that would be great, I'll just go and brush my teeth and wash my face."

It was like those places you see only on hallmark, the neighborhood of Livingston. There were restaurants, shopping centers, gorgeous mansions, and places of entertainment around here. I sat back in Mr. Hemming truck while gaping at the places he drove by. He was also giving me a mini tour and history lessons about the places he drove by.

This place was so high class that he even had to show an ID at the huge gate at the entrance of the neighborhood, even though he delivers things to and from here every day. It makes me wonder how I would get in if I wasn't in the truck with him.

If Greengrove becomes as half as nice as Livingston, then I would actually consider making it my permanent home.

"I passed by Mr. Livingston house a lot of time, so I'll just drop you off first, I don't want to stay for long because he isn't the nicest man on earth."

"Thank you, Mr. Hemming, but you didn't have to do any of this."

I had Rome's address including his house number so I don't think it would be hard to find, but if I was going to get dropped off there without having to do much brain work then I have no problem with that.

"You can call me Anthony if you're comfortable, Mr. Hemming makes me feel old," he says with a light chuckle.

I give him a small smile then thanked him when he came to a stop in front of a huge beige house.

I am supposed to clean the inside of that, I thought while staring at the mansion.

"Take care Julia," Anthony says before driving off.

I make my way up to the gate where a security guard was standing. He was a tall guy with a grim look, and he didn't seem friendly, "Good morning I'm Julia Roderick, the new maid."

"You're one hour and ten minutes late miss, I hope you don't get in trouble. Boss does not take tardiness well."

I roll my eyes at his words, he didn't even return my greeting, "Is he here?"

"No miss he left about two hours ago, here," he says handing me a bunch of keys, "He left instructions for you to clean everywhere expect his office and the kitchen downstairs."

I gasp, "He has two kitchens?" Who has two kitchens?

"Yes miss, now I suggest you go on in and get started since you're already late."

Inside was incredible. It looked as if he hired the best interior designers to decorate it. I needed to find where everything is located; more specifically, the cleaning equipment before I begin. However, the beautiful yet intricate designs that he had hanging on the walls distracted me from doing so.

Rome I was pleased with what met my eyes, Josh was right. These men worked fast, and everything seem to be coming along just great.

Six months ago, fifteen minutes away from where the new Livingston hotel will be, was an empty piece of land. I purchase it from the owner and had an architect design an apartment building for me. It would be five floors with thirty apartments. Fifteen will have two rooms and the next fifteen only one.

They were already working on the third floor, and it won't be much longer until I let Josh call that interior designer. She was his best friend from high school and even though I didn't like the woman, I could not deny it, her work was spectacular.

I retrieve my vibrating phone from my pocket to see that, my security guard is calling. I tried calling him two minutes ago to find out if Julia had arrived and tell him to inform her that she will get paid for the three days on Saturday, but he did not answer. I hope he isn't sleeping on the job. He has been working for me for three years and if he suddenly decides to be lazy on the job then I would not hesitate to fire him like the last five guards.

"Jimmy," I say as soon as I answered, "Why weren't you taking my calls, did the maid arrive?"

"I'm sorry sir, I went to the restroom. She did sir."

I forgot to tell him to show her around. I hope she found everything she needs and is not wasting time.

"I need you to tell her that she has an hour break and that she will get paid on Saturday, I'll just leave the cheque with you Jimmy."

"Okay sir, I'll do that right away."

I ended the call and walk over to the man in charge.

"Hello sir," he greets as soon as he saw me coming towards him.

I nod and place my hands in my pant pockets, "How are things coming along?"

"Give us three months sir, we will have your building ready by then," he says with a smile.

I nod before retrieving my phone and walking away from him. I don't understand why people feel the need to laugh or smile so much, it irritates me.

"Josh," I answered, "how are things coming along?"

"Hello to you too brother," he says in his usual happy tone, "They already took down the grocery store, they're just removing what needs to be removed."

"Good, now when do they actually start working?"

These men were from the same company as the men working here. They were from a five-star rated company in Palmville.

"Tomorrow," Josh answer.

I needed to hire someone who will be able to keep an eye on things because Josh had his own job he needed to attend to and so do I.

"I won't be able to stop by today I have to head back to the hotel, I have a meeting at three."

"That's fine bro, do what you have to."

Without saying anything I end the call.
