Chapter 120 Family Name
After their break, they all started trotting into the room one after the other. The first set to enter was Beatrice and Richard. He'd left Melissa in her room with Candice and Vanessa who'd come to report about the recipe she'd told them to ask about.
Melissa had been planning another day out with Beatrice and the rest, and she'd been planning to cook for the entire party. She'd already gotten a location and the mental picture of how she'd build the tent and all. She'd planned to do it all herself and just invite them all there.
It would be better though if they'd managed to solve their issue with the Vance pack at this time, she'd just make it a celebration for that and it would be of a lighter mood.
Melissa followed and the three of them spent ten minutes waiting for Margaret and Avalors. They came at last and apologised but everyone just giggled at their apologies. They'd all half expected them to come late.
At last, they all sat down, a moment of silence before Avalors started the meeting again. It'd been an involuntary action but they'd just all mentally decided that the elderly wolf would be the one to start the meetings. He stood up and glanced at everyone, subtly greeting all of them one by one, an action that allowed him to understand if they were all ready. Though he'd skipped Margaret for whatever reason and the she-wolf just blushed when he did.
Melissa exhaled, she was already starting to get fed up with their lovey doviness, it all just felt weird. Maybe it was because she'd known Avalors since she was a kid and had unconsciously replaced him as her father in her head. The whole romantic vibe with Margaret made her feel weird. Though she knew Margaret was almost as old as him, it still felt somehow.
"Good evening," Avalors began the meeting properly. "This afternoon, we've managed to outline how we will move forward with the Vance pack, the council, the queen's security detail and her shared abilities with the demon wolf," he read out from his scribblings.
Melissa noticed how he'd called her queen and not Luna. It was mostly like he was calling her a nickname like Richard's demon wolf moniker. She smiled, although it wasn't the first time someone would switch Luna for Queen, in fact it was common. She'd once heard an argument on it, where two scholars were giving points as to why one is more correct than the other.
The host of the story was that a Pack makes the entire kingdom sound like a group of forty people that banded together and calling it a kingdom or realm makes it sound exactly as large as it is and it would be logically pleasing for a kingdom to have a queen or a king. While the other argued that, the word Pack doesn't really state the size capacity of a group or a kingdom. Therefore a relic of the past shouldn't just be thrown away because they felt they were for it, so the word Pack and Luna should be retained.
Melissa remembered that little detail and she discovered she liked it when Avalors called her queen. It was pleasing in a way that her dad saying I am proud of you feels.
"Well, I am not sure if we've concluded everything on the ability part, but if we have, the last topic we have is the oracle," he announced and then sat down.
Margaret stood up and thanked him before continuing. "Actually there is one last thing I wanted to tell the queen. During my years of research, I've managed to put down the full name of her wolfkind," she said. "I need your help to confirm one of my theories, right here, right now," she said. "The experiment can be a little deadly though," she replied.
"How deadly?" Richard asked.
"Melissa might control," she said.
"And why is that?" Melissa answered with a raised brow.
"Because I am either calling the true name of your wolf or its true family name, either way, it is going to trigger it, if I don't get it, nothing will happen," she said.
Melissa nodded and everyone else backed away from her aside Richard, who just sat in his position in a relaxed manner.
Then Margaret herself stepped towards the exit door. "Minatherialenai," she called softly.
Melissa felt it in her first before she would even hear the name. A sudden shift in her temperament followed by her brain dulling and her eyes weakening. Lena's consciousness was overriding hers, she was turning forcefully, her claws were out, her fangs crawling out slowly. Her vision was changing to the wolf's form.
"Lena," she growled in anger and everything reverted and she changed back to normal.
Richard hadn't even flinched throughout. He only turned to her after she'd regained control. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"Definitely," she said. "You were not alarmed at all," she smiled.
"I know you would rather hurt yourself than hurt anyone in this room, so I figured out you wouldn't lose control," he smiled at her.
Melissa nodded and everyone came back to their seat, then she heard Lena's voice. "Tell your friend not to try that again.. ever!" she said.
"Was it your family name or yours?" She asked.
"My family, at least that is the only way you would understand it anyways," she replied. "Only one wolf for a soul, we are a part of you, so I couldn't have lived in the past, but it is just that I can still have memories of my former iterations," she informed.
"I don't understand," Melissa complained but Lena was done replying.
"So what is your hypothesis?" Richard asked Margaret.
"Is it a family name or hers?" Margaret asked Melissa while raising a finger at Richard to stop him.
"Family," Melissa replied.
"So, it means, one wolf for each person. It also means, that the wolves don't pick us, neither do we pick them, they are made with us." She said. "Wolves are more than just a subconscious attached to us. They are just the conscious part of our soul. It means the wolf that you have is a testament to your personal strength and willpower," Margaret explained.
The whole crew just stared back, confused.
