Chapter 157 Full-Moon Showdown
POV: Luna
The attack came at midnight.
Just as the moon reached its peak.
The wards shattered simultaneously. All of them. Every defensive measure we'd put in place.
Someone had the override codes. Inside knowledge. Complete access.
"They're here!" the alarm systems blared.
I was already shifted. Already moving toward the threat.
My pack followed. Liam beside me. Aiden close behind.
We burst outside and stopped.
The grounds were covered in rogues. Hundreds of them. More than I'd ever seen.
And leading them, wearing Council robes, were five figures.
The architects.
"Luna Eclipse," the center figure said. Male. Old. Voice like gravel. "Thank you for making this easy."
"Who are you?"
"We are the Keepers of the Seal. The original guardians. The ones who created the prison that your bloodline was supposed to maintain."
"You created the seal?"
"Centuries ago. To lock away power too dangerous for this world. But we've evolved. Grown beyond our original purpose. And now we want that power back."
"So you can destroy reality?"
"So we can reshape it. Without limits. Without restrictions. True freedom."
"That's insane!"
"That's vision." He gestured. "Take her. Alive. We need her intact for the transfer."
The rogues charged.
We met them head-on.
I fought with everything I had. Wolf instincts. Eclipse power. Otherworld magic. All of it combined.
Liam was beside me, his analytical mind calling out weak points and patterns.
"Left flank is exposed!"
"Rogue alpha at three o'clock!"
"Incoming spell, dodge right!"
I followed his calls instinctively. Our coordination perfect.
My friends formed a protective circle around Selene and me.
Nova and Aria on offense. Sienna and Lyric on defense. Aiden roaming, striking where needed.
We were holding.
But barely.
There were too many rogues. Too much dark magic.
"We need a new strategy!" Aria shouted.
"Luna!" Selene called. "Use me! Use my power!"
"It's too dangerous!"
"We're going to die anyway if we don't try something!"
She was right.
I grabbed her hand. "Channel everything through me. Like we practiced."
"But we've never tried it in combat!"
"First time for everything!"
Selene focused. Her royal magic surged toward me through the Guardian Bond.
My Eclipse mark flared to life, filtering the power. Stabilizing it.
Then I released it.
A wave of combined Eclipse and royal magic exploded outward.
Every rogue it touched dissolved instantly.
At least fifty gone in seconds.
The architects looked impressed.
"Magnificent," the lead figure said. "Even better than we hoped. Imagine what we could do with that power."
"You'll never get it!" I shouted.
"We already have."
He snapped his fingers.
Cole appeared. Walking toward me from the shadows.
"Cole?" I stared. "How did you get out again?"
"I never went back in," he said quietly. "The surrender? The intelligence? All a setup to get me close to you. One more time."
"No."
"I'm sorry, Luna. I really am. But they have leverage. Things I care about. People I love."
"Who?"
"My family. They're holding them hostage. If I don't deliver you, they die."
"So you're choosing them over me?"
"I'm choosing survival. Like I always do."
He raised a knife. Ritual blade. Designed for blood magic.
And he lunged.
Liam intercepted him. They grappled.
"Run!" Liam shouted at me. "Get out of here!"
"I'm not leaving you!"
"You have to! They can't transfer your power if they can't catch you!"
He was right. But I couldn't just abandon him.
Then Aiden was there. "I've got him! Go!"
The two of them fought Cole together.
My pack formed a protective escort. Pushing me away from the battle.
"Luna, move!" Nova urged.
We ran toward the forest. Away from the architects.
But they were ready for that too.
More rogues cut off our escape route.
We were surrounded.
The lead architect appeared in front of me. "Enough running. You've proven your strength. Your worthiness. Now surrender. Make this easy."
"Never."
"Then we do this the hard way."
He raised his hands. The other four architects did the same.
Five pillars of dark magic slammed down around me. Creating a cage.
My pack tried to break through. Couldn't.
"Luna!" Nova was pounding on the magical barrier.
I was alone. Trapped. Powerless to escape.
The lead architect entered the cage. "This would have been easier if you'd cooperated. But we'll manage."
He pulled out a ritual dagger. Different from Cole's. Older. More dangerous.
"One cut. That's all we need. Your blood freely given starts the transfer."
"I'll never give it freely."
"Then we'll take it by force."
He lunged.
I dodged. Shifted. Fought back.
But in the enclosed space, I had limited room to maneuver.
He was faster than he looked. Stronger. Enhanced by dark magic.
His blade caught my arm. I gasped as blood welled.
"There," he said, satisfied. "That's all we need."
He collected the blood in a vial. Sealed it.
Then he left the cage and began chanting.
The ritual was starting.
I felt my Eclipse power being pulled. Torn from my mark. From my soul.
Pain exploded through me.
Through the pack bonds, my friends felt it. Screamed my name.
Through the mate bond, Liam felt it. His rage and fear overwhelming.
He broke free from Cole. Shifted into that primal Alpha form again.
And he attacked the cage with everything he had.
The barrier cracked.
"Help him!" I gasped to my friends.
They joined in. All of them. Attacking the barrier from the outside while I pushed from the inside.
It shattered.
I stumbled free, my power still being drained by the ritual.
Liam caught me. "I've got you."
"The ritual. We have to stop the ritual."
"How?"
"Break the vial. Disrupt the circle. Anything!"
We charged the architects.
They were ready. Their rogues forming a wall.
But we had something they didn't.
Desperation. Love. Unbreakable bonds.
We fought like it was the end of the world.
Because it might be.
I used Eclipse power to clear a path.
Liam used his Alpha strength to tear through defenses.
My friends coordinated attacks like they'd been fighting together for years.
Selene used her royal magic, filtered through me, to dissolve rogues.
Aiden fought with chaotic precision, always appearing where he was needed most.
We were winning.
Inch by inch. Step by step.
We reached the ritual circle.
The lead architect was still chanting. Almost done.
"Destroy the vial!" I shouted.
Liam lunged for it.
But Cole intercepted him. Again.
They fought. Brutal. Desperate.
"I'm sorry!" Cole was saying. "I have to do this! My family—"
"Screw your family!" Liam roared. "You're killing her!"
Through our old pack bond, I felt Cole's conflict. His pain. His hatred of what he'd become.
And I realized something.
He didn't want to be here. Didn't want to do this.
He was being forced. Manipulated. Used.
Just like he'd used me.
"Cole!" I called out. "You don't have to do this! We can save your family! Together!"
"You can't! They're too powerful!"
"We're powerful too! All of us! Together!"
He hesitated. Just for a second.
That second was enough.
Liam got past his guard and smashed the vial.
My blood spilled across the ritual circle. Disrupting the pattern.
The ritual collapsed.
My power snapped back to me. Hard. Painful.
I screamed and collapsed.
The lead architect roared in fury. "No! We were so close!"
"Retreat!" another architect shouted. "We'll try again!"
They vanished. Teleporting away.
The rogues, without their controllers, became disorganized. Easy to eliminate.
Within minutes, the battle was over.
We'd won.
Barely.
I lay on the ground, gasping. Everything hurt.
Liam was beside me. "Luna? Talk to me."
"I'm okay. Just drained."
"You're not okay. You're never okay."
Despite everything, I laughed. "Fair point."
Cole approached slowly. Defeated. Broken.
"I'm sorry," he said. "For all of it. I was weak. Selfish. Wrong."
"Your family. Are they really being held hostage?"
"Yes. The architects have them in a secure location. If I don't deliver you, they'll kill them."
"Then we'll save them. After we recover. We'll find them and free them."
"Why would you help me? After everything I've done?"
"Because despite everything, you're still pack. Even if you're a terrible, manipulative, lying member of that pack."
Through the old bond, I felt his gratitude. His relief.
"Thank you," he whispered.
Then he collapsed. Unconscious from exhaustion and stress.
Security took him away. Gently this time.
My friends gathered around me.
"We did it," Nova said. "We actually survived."
"For now," Aria added. "The architects will be back."
"Let them come," I said. "We'll be ready."
Through the pack bonds, I felt everyone's exhaustion. Their fear. Their determination.
We were battered. Broken. Barely standing.
But we were alive.
And we were together.
That was enough.
For tonight, it was enough.
