Chapter Ninety Four
*Enzo*
A slow beeping sound penetrates my brain as I slowly open my eyes. My vision was hazy as I stared up at the ceiling wondering where I was. It was a bit dark in the room and I was having a difficult time in remembering what happened. My head was pounding as I slightly turn to the side. There was someone lying their head on the bed holding my hand.
I noticed I was hooked up to an IV drip along with other wires monitoring my vitals. I recognized this room. A sharp pain stabs at the back of my head, and I reach for it only to connect with a thick bandage. What the hell happened?
I look back down at the sleeping person as bits and pieces started to come back to me. I remember being at the dock, a gun shoved to my head, and I also remember that I was about to die. Then loud crunching noises, the ground beneath me shaking. The feeling of fear and shock had gone through me and then…nothing.
My eyes suddenly widen when I remember what Charlie had told me. Gabriela had been taken by Dario and what the hell has happened to Dom? I go to sit up hissing when my head pounded even harder against my skull, jerking the sleeping person awake next to me.
I hear a sharp gasp followed by, “Enzo!”
The sound of her voice was like a cooling balm as relief floods through me. I try to say her name, but my mouth felt like sandpaper stuffed with cotton balls. Her yell must have been heard as the door suddenly slams open and Charlie rushes in followed by our family’s doctor.
“Thank God you’re awake.” Charlie comes to my other side as Gabby starts sobbing while smiling at me.
I reach up to touch the side of her face and she clutches my hand with both of hers pressing her cheek more firmly in my palm.
“How long was I out? What happened?” I finally croak out.
“Here drink some water.” She hiccups as she goes to grab a glass and while she does that, the doctor takes her place.
“You were conscious off and on, but you’ve been out for nearly four hours. How do you feel?” He takes a small light out his pocket and checks my eyes.
“Like a sledgehammer bashed against my skull.” I mumble.
Gabby comes back over, and Charlie moves so she could help me sit up to take a drink. It felt like I haven’t drank water in years as I try to guzzle it down in one go. The doctor kindly takes the cup before I could and gives me a stern look.
“Not so fast. You have a concussion and drinking too much too fast will cause you to throw it right back up.”
I just sigh looking back to Gabby remembering that she was supposed to be at Moretti’s place locked up. I frown as her tears start to calm down. “They said you were kidnapped.” I whisper.
“Yeah, something I’m getting good at apparently.” She tries to joke it off, but I could tell she was overwhelmed and frazzled.
“What happened?” I ask, glad that she was here with me safe and unhurt.
“I was rescued by someone I least expected. But we can talk about that later. Domenico is here too.” She quickly states.
My eyebrows raise in shock as I look to Charlie who nods his head. My heart pounds with the emotion that he did the one thing none of us could do. Because there was no doubt in my mind that he was the one who saved my cousin and more than likely me as well.
Before I could ask someone else rushes in the room, and I was truly glad to see that Samual was alive as well. I smile at him as he breathes out a shaky breath, putting his hands in his pant suit pockets, smiling back at me as he stood there at the end of my bed.
“That was one hell of a scare you gave me boss.”
I would have rolled my eyes at him addressing me in that way, but it hurt too much to move them with this godawful headache I now had. Speaking of…
“My father? Uncle Tone?” Then swallowing hard, “Nonno?”
“Your uncle is currently sleeping off his three bullet wounds he received when you got taken. Backup finally arrived and drove him to the nearest warehouse of ours.” The doctor tells me as he checks my vitals and IV drip.
At least he was still alive.
“We still haven’t heard word about your father of grandfather.” Samual tells me with a grim look on his face.
“I’m working on their whereabouts, so leave that to me.” Charlie quickly informs me, and I nod to him.
Suddenly a loud snore came from the corner of the room. We all look in that direction and joy swims through my bloodstream to see a passed out Dom on another bed. Looking to Charlie he immediately responds with,
“He looks worse than he actually is. As soon as he learned you were going to be okay he passed out and hasn’t woken up since. Apparently he’s doing fine since he hasn’t stopped snoring.”
“It was kind of hard to sleep with actually. I feel sorry for the girl that ends up with him.” Gabby grumbles.
I squeeze her hand gently getting her attention back on me before I look to Charlie once more. “Moretti?” I needed to know where we stood right now.
He sighs heavily. “The good thing is I was able to get your cousin out before they tortured him even more. I…blew up his compound. Hurt a lot of his guys but…” He trails off leaving me a bit surprised he had gone through to such lengths to get Dom back.
“He made it out didn’t he?” I asked with disappointment lacing my tone.
He slowly nods his head. “Yeah. The blast knocked him out, but it didn’t kill him.”
I clench my teeth in irritation that this wasn’t over yet. At least now I could proceed with a calm head now that both Gabby and Dom were back with me and safe. But with that knowledge I had a sinking feeling that Dario was going to be a lot more difficult to deal with.
But the more important issue we had was something I was dreading to reveal. But she needed to know, had the right to know. Looking to the love of my life I pull her gently closer to me to where she was slightly forced to sit on the bed. I look to everyone in the room.
“Can I have a moment alone with her please.”
They all nod and file out of the room as a cute little frown appears on her face. But before I could start she leans in and presses her lips against mine making me want to hold onto her and never let her go.
Pulling back she whispers, “I thought I was going to lose you. I was at the docks; I nearly almost watched you get…” Her voice hitches as she couldn’t even finish the sentence.
Raking my hands in her hair I place her forehead against mine. “I’m sorry I made you go through all of this. You deserve so much better-”
“No. Don’t say such things. I want and need you. I would rather go through all the hardships in the world than not be with you. I love you.”
Her eyes fill with fresh tears, and I couldn’t be more thankful for her entering into my existence. I softly whisper, “I love you too. I’ll always love you until the day I die.”
“Which won’t happen until a very long time when you’re old and wrinkly and can barely walk anymore.” She chuckles making me smile.
Then my smile slips. Bracing myself I swallow and say, “Gabby, there’s something I have to tell you.”
Sensing my sudden mode change she tenses with her brows furrowing a bit. “What is it?”
Hating that I had to do this, I slowly state, “It’s…about your father.”
