Chapter 60
Jessica’s POV
*“NO ONE IS TO LEAVE THE SAFE HOUSE FOR THE NEXT TWO HOURS!”* A mind link comes through from Alex. *“AND WE MEAN, NO ONE!”* Toby links after him.
They both come into the living area with smiles on their faces. “What the hell, we were about to go see Becky’s Nonna. Why can’t we leave?” I yell at them both. “We think there is a spell around the territory and Gerry is trying to counteract the spell in the Safehouse. It’s causing the Fungua Pride to be anxious all the time; that’s why Alex was being a fucking baby” Toby says.
“Why aren’t we being affected then? I haven’t felt anxious” Olivia says. “Because you are used to the feeling Liv; you and Jessi. You were anxious for four years and had to deal with it daily. I am wondering if it’s the same for you Beck” Alex tells us. “I’m glad Alister and Cherie aren’t going to be here for another 2 days; we can get it sorted before they get here with Kim, Glenn and Jeremy.” Toby adds.
“I guess I am; I have been coming here since I was a child. If there is something causing us to be anxious here; I would be used to the feeling by now. Do you want me to tell Leader Sam?” she tells us. “Let Gerry do what he needs to do first; if this feeling of wanting to rip everyone’s throat out doesn’t go away; then it’s not what we thought” Alex says.
“Dear; loving Alphas; who are the best Alphas in the whole world. Since this anxiety spell isn’t working on Liv, Beck and me, can we go see Beck’s Nonna please?” I smirk at them. Toby rolls his eyes "Suck up.”
“If I let you go, then I will have to let everyone else. It’s too risky” Alex says to us, sitting down on the sofa. I grin; *“Don’t worry girls, we’ll be going soon”* mind linking Beck and Olivia. I sit on his lap, “please? We won’t be long” kissing the mark on his neck. He lets out a growl; “1 hour, no longer and only talk through mind link outside the building; I don’t want anyone to hear what we think, we know.” I kiss his neck again “Thank you; mighty Alpha” I say to him, heading out the door.
“You have him wrapped around your little finger” Beck giggles. “Don’t tell him that; he thinks he’s the powerful one” I laugh back at her. We head out the front doors and Beck leads the way to her grandmother’s house.
*“So why would someone put an anxiety spell on the territory?”* Beck asks. *“My suspicion would be to sell more drugs”* Olivia answers.
*“I think I am being affected; I have a feeling someone is watching us from those trees”* I say to them. Rebecca stands in front of us; ready to shift. She sniffs the air and looks at us, then back at the tree tops. “Are you ok, Beck?” Olivia asks. “Umm, there is a Leopard Shifter at the top of the third tree over and, umm; he won’t hurt you; we should get to Nonna’s house” she tells us.
We follow her; she seems to be in a hurry. “Are you sure he won’t hurt us; he seems to be following us?” I ask. “What? Oh; he’s not following you, he’s following me” she says. We stop and look at her. She takes as few paces and turns on her heels to look at us. She’s not actually looking at us, she is looking at the leopard following us.
“Beck? What’s going on?” Olivia asks, “Nothing; he’s just my mate. Let’s get to Nonna’s.”
*“What the fuck, Beck?”* I yell through our mind link. *“It’s ok, Luna Jessica and Luna Olivia; cat shifters are different to wolf shifters; we like to play hard to get. Let’s keep going, he won’t hurt you; I promise.”*
We get to Nonna Francesca’s house and Becky walks in the front door; with Olivia and I following behind her. “Nonna” she cries giving the older lady with thick greying dark hair and brown eyes a hug. “Becky, and who are your friends?” “This is Luna Jessica and Luna Olivia, Nonna” she says. “Hi Francesca” we say together; “Call me Nonna; all of Becky’s friends do.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Nonna” I say to her. “Same; Becky has told me all about you. She says she is your personal guard?” “Yes; one of six we have” Olivia tells her. She smiles at Rebecca “following in your father’s footsteps; he would be so proud of you Becky” she beams.
“Tell me; what brings you to Fungua Pride Territory?” she asks Olivia and I. “We are here to help with the rogue attacks and other issues you are facing, Nonna” Olivia answers. Francesca looks at the window and back at Rebecca, narrowing her eyes, “Why is Coby stalking around the house?”
Rebecca blushes; “Umm, Nonna; I know you are going to tell me, I told you so; but please don’t” she says. Francesca’s scowl changes dramatically to a smile; beaming across her face towards Rebecca; he eyes trickling a little tear. “Are you playing hard to get?” she asks.
She rolls her eyes at her grandmother; “We can’t stay long; we just came to tell you we got here ok. I’ll bring the others over in a few days; is that ok with you?”
“You know how much I love company, mia bella; I look forward to it” the smile still beaming on her face. Rebecca gives her grandmother a kiss and heads to the door. “Quickly Lunas; if we leave now; we can get back to the safehouse before Coby sees us.”
We head out of the door and race towards the safehouse. *“How did Nonna know Coby was your mate?”* I asked Becky, opening the mind link again. *“She says she has a sixth sense about these things. Whenever I visited; she would invite Mr and Mrs Jones over every chance she got; and Coby would come with them. We would hang out, but nothing more happened between us. Until today.”*
We get to a large redwood tree; close to the safe house. “Holy fuck” I yell as a tall dark-haired man jumps in front of us from the tree branches. Rebecca high kicks him in the chest; throwing him backwards, causing him to land on his back. “Coby; don’t startle me when I am in protection mode” she tells him; offering her hand to help him up.
He grabs her hand and pulls her down on top of him; “Mate” he growls; biting her neck. “How are we going to explain this to Toby and Alex?” Olivia asks me. “Don’t know.”
