Damien Stryker's P. O. V Barging in through the front door, I don't even bother knocking as I maintain my poised emotionless expression. Pattering footsteps reach my ears but I ignore them, knowing exactly who it is. I don't have time to waste. Making my way through the familiar place, I come upon a door right at the end of hall and without even knocking, barge in like I do every single time. Brown eyes and flaming red hair greet my vision as Roger sits up straighter in his seat,We need to talk." I say seriously, stepping into the room and closing the door behind me. That should keep prying ears away. "What for?" Roger asks hesitantly, taking in my every move. Knowing that just because I look calm, that doesn't mean there isn't a storm brewing beneath the surface. His exact words if I remember precisely and I always do. Just glancing at him, my eyes flit back to spiralling red hair and hypnotic doe brown eyes. I can tell I've left her more than bewildered in my office. Focus. I walk towards Rogers desk as a slow anger starts to build up. The image of her face enough to rile me up. Slamming my hands on the table, I make sure to look deep into Serena's father's eyes as I enumerate every single word. "They've. Found. Out. About. Her." This makes him immediately stand up in his seat and I regain myself to my proper form, easily towering over him. Rogers eyes harden as he glares at me. "Daniel." Is all I say, causing him to let out a curse word. "I trusted you. I fucking trusted you!" Roger snarls in anger as he paces back and forth. My lip turns upward in distaste at his lack of respect but I manage to let it go. His daughters' safety is on the line. "It's amusing how you all of a sudden care isn't it?" I comment icily, not withering under his stare. Roger's head snaps towards me but he knows I'm riling him up. Even I know I'm doing so but I can't help the way my hands clench and unclench at the thought of smashing someone's face in. Preferably Daniel's. That smug bastard. "Don't push me Damien. I've let you play me around long enough. You and I both know I'm doing all of this to protect my daughter. Do you think I like watching her go misguided and hurt? As if I don't love my own flesh and blood?" He spits out the words as if they're coated in acid and physically hurt him. I don't say anything and luckily for Roger, respect him enough not to deck him in the face. There are a very few people I actually respect and he's one of them. Not because he's a good guy but out of the respect for his daughter; Serena. My mind trails to her once more and I can't help but to feel worried on thinking if she's okay and safe. "I've got guards on her at all times, when she isn't by my side that is." I add, so that at least he'll remain calm. It surprisingly works as Roger drags his hands down his face and sighs. "I leave her safety with you. And only you. Understand?" He hints, firmness in his voice. I nod my head. "I feel the same way." Nobody else will protect her the same way I can. "This has all gotten so out of hand." Roger quietly whispers as he sits back down and motions for me to do the same, "She wasn't supposed to get involved." I reply. This is all a huge fuck up. One I severely miscalculated for. "She wasn't supposed to get engaged to you either." He adds, throwing a pointed look my way. I let a small smirk make its way onto my face as I go over his words. "It's funny how fate works." I muse. "So you go by the name fate now?" Roger asks mockingly. I can't help but to let the small smirk bloom into a very apparent one as I shrug my shoulders. ******** Slamming the door lightly shut, I find myself walking casually before halting in my place. Glancing around my office, my eyes scan every little detail, making sure everything is in its place. My eyes scan across the sofa and then flit to my desk before my mind catches up to what I actually saw. With slow yet sure strides, I carry myself down the few steps and to the lower half of my chambers where a lone sofa sits with a few stacks of books in either side. Lips parted as soft puffs of breath leave her and her chest rising up and down gently. Serena's face although smooth is furrowed and rigid all along her forehead and eyes letting me know she's having a bad dream. Deciding on not to wake Serena up, I bury myself in work for the next half hour only to see her still unconscious to the world. I look at the time and then my stack of work before letting the much bigger and more ludicrous side of me win. I walk towards her before picking Serena up, being careful not to jostle her to much. She squirms in my arms but nuzzles closer to me and rests her head in the crook of my neck causing me to tense and then relax all at the same time. Calling onto my guard, I make sure he gets everything I need before we make our way back home. Reaching home, I barely have anytime to lie Serena on the sofa before I get drowned in calls and emails. Finishing each and every one of them, I walk into the living room only to see Serena still out cold to the world. Setting my phone back into my pocket, I simply gaze at her, taking in her innocent looking features. Just the thought of her been marred by any sort of violence makes me feel that all too familiar, consuming fire that wants to eliminate any threat standing in her way. Deciding that it's time for lunch, I make my way towards the kitchen and soon enough get engrossed I'm trying to not set my damn self on fire. Too consumed in cooking, I barely notice the soft thud and then the low groan. Immediately halting my work, I rush into the living room, hand poised over my waist. However no precautions are needed as a half asleep Serena rolls on the floor and looks up at me through sleepy eyes. "Did I teleport or something?" She mumbles as her eyes take in the living room. I shake my head as I lean down, stretching my arm out to help her get up. She accepts it and grunts, still looking disorientated. I motion for Serena to follow me into the kitchen and she does, however, with a confused expression. "You can cook?" She asks in bewilderment as she scans the kitchen. Walking over to the stove, I nod my head. "I thought you couldn't?" "Well I can." I say shrugging. "Wait," she says, I can even imagine her holding a finger up motioning me to stop even though I can't see her, "You made me cook, three times a day, for two weeks. When you yourself can do the same?" I feel a spike of amusement shoot through me as I nod. Turning around, I can see her face all scrunched up into what I'm assuming she thinks is a scowl. "Yes." I answer simply. "That's just great." She says back sarcastically. "You don't know a lot of things about me." I comment. Though I know it's partially- all- my fault. "Who's fault is that?" She says as if reading my mind. At her answer I shrug and hand her over the food I made. Watching her dig in makes me feel a slight twinge of worry. What if it tastes like crap? The look on her face morphs to one from curiosity to content. Serena gazes at me through her lashes her doe like eyes peering at me, making me take in a harsh gulp. "You're cooking from now on." She stares firmly causing me to tentatively smile and nod. "You aren't off the hook though. You still have to tell me about yourself." I tilt my head in confusion as I try to form what she means and then trying to dodge her question before giving up and sighing. "What do you want to know?" Just that elicits a small excited squeal from her and I have to try my hardest to hold back the smile. Only out of all the women in the planet only could Serena Mclane make someone divulge something to her with no ulterior motives.
