Chapter 125 Final Warning

Chapter 125 Final Warning
Kian

Verena caught the bouquet at Aunt Riley’s wedding.

The old me wouldn’t have handled this very well. I would’ve definitely caused a scene because everyone knew what it meant. I wouldn’t deny the tightening feeling in my chest when everyone teased her that she was next.

Despite the conflicting emotions that warred inside of me, a strange warmth of calmness overwhelmed me because I knew that Uncle Daxton and Verena’s relationship was a sinking ship waiting for the catalyst—me—to wreck it.

While everyone took pictures with the newlyweds, my attention drifted elsewhere. To the two of them. In their own bubble.

Unfortunately, it was a bubble that would soon be popped by me.

Verena stepped between my uncle’s legs as she dumped the half-bitten strawberry from her mouth to his. With his eyes holding hers, he chewed slowly and sensually while she took his face in her hand, leaning in to press a kiss to his mouth.

I thought I was okay and could handle their PDA’s but an ache of jealousy bloomed in my chest and I quickly averted my gaze before it could get the worst part of me.

I plugged my AirPods back into my ears, replaying the conversation with Verena that I’d made Stacey record.

She said it right there—No one would want to be with a person who murdered their parents over an iPad. Even as a child.

I knew it.

I couldn’t believe I was stressing myself over a relationship that would soon come crashing down.

Darting my eyes back to them again, Verena whispered something and my uncle’s eyes brightened as he laughed—his hand circled her waist. A hand placement that I definitely did not like.

But I'd like to remind myself again. It will end soon.

As if the universe had grown tired of watching me suffer, it handed me exactly what I needed to win against my uncle.

I stumbled on my uncle’s conversation with his secretary Josh who flew in this morning. Something about pills. He held out a small unlabeled container. My uncle had declined saying he was now in a good mental state and didn’t need them anymore.

Unlabeled Pills.

Mental Health.

His impulsive character.

Perfect. I didn’t know what the truth was and didn’t care for it. As long as it aided the narrative that I wanted to push, I was down for it.

“Verena, please I need your help here,”

My Uncle tapped her on the bum and my jaw clenched while she made her way over to Nina, who was already waiting with her phone in hand. Verena leaned closer, smiling as she scrolled through the phone while Nina’s mouth parted as she tapped her finger on her temple.

What could they be discussing?

Nina gave a side-embrace and that was when Verena’s eyes cut to mine. The light in her eyes fizzled out, her face falling into a very deep frown as she glared daggers at me.

The heat of that murderous gaze made me smile as I grabbed the champagne’s flute from the server’s tray and took a languorous sip.

I raised it to her in a mock-toast and she rolled her eyes with irritation in them.

That attitude. That persistent attitude that’d always kept me on my toes. She should keep it coming. It only made me want her more.

Slowly the air shifted, a shiver rattling down my spine as the side of my face suddenly burned. My throat worked, and as I turned my head—my breathing hitched.

My Uncle’s eyes were on me. His gaze was dark and intimidating. It almost shrunk me.

I doubled down on the stare, even though my heart was starting to beat out of trepidation. I was challenging him and with a man like him who clearly didn’t take challenges too well, this was a dangerous game.

I hated losing but in this situation, I had to so I shifted my gaze away, slid into the stool, and occupied my mind with thoughts on what my next plan was.

I should probably draft an email.

A wicked excitement bubbled inside of me, my fingers itching to get started.

“Dear Verena,

I received your response to the previous email and I’m confused about the pictures you sent. Maybe you don’t realize how dangerous the—“

The drawl of a voice behind me startled me, causing me to nearly drop my phone.

My Uncle.

He slid on the stool beside me, the knot in my stomach tightening as I tried to put on a bold font. Act like I wasn’t affected by his presence.

“Had a lot of fun?” he said, nursing his drink.

My muscles tensed but I wouldn’t succumb to the fear of him. “We shouldn’t be talking. You and I don't share a close relationship for you to ask me about—”

Those darkened eyes locked on mine and my heart slammed hard against my rib cage. “I am not asking if you enjoyed the party, nephew. I wanted to know if you had a lot of fun dropping those hate comments…”

Hate comments? My face scrunched in confusion. “Are you bored? Is that why you are trying to start something with me?”

His smile was lethal as the corner of his mouth tipped up. “Herpes. The Gay Club…”

“What are you talking ab—” my heart stopped.

Oh, My God!

The comments I had spammed Verena’s Vlog with.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” My expression remained impassive.

A deranged chuckle bubbled from his throat, chills swamping my skin at the burning weight of his stare. “Your face has already given you away…”

Slowly his tone shifted, smile fading. “You keep coming around Verena and I don’t like it. You stare at her longer than you should, touch her, breathe near her…”

He paused, closed his eyes, and laughed. A sick one.

I swallowed.

His eyes fluttered open as he leaned forward and stared into my eyes. “You are treading a dangerous path and I’ve been too lenient with you,”

“I make people disappear so don’t test me, Kian. You’ve not seen the worst part of me yet. Consider this your final warning.”
