Chapter 72: I was angry
"I don't like that she's angry but it's working to our advantage, too. Why is she angry?" Brenda asked.
I just looked at her and moved my shoulders as a sign to show her I don't know. But I had a little clue, Brenda seemed like she did too. We pulled the third wheel up. And we actually finished the third challenge first and in time. Kendra sat down and I sat next to her as we waited for the others.
"I'll go get some water," Brenda offered.
"Why are you angry, Kendra?" I asked.
"It's stupid, I know. I was hoping to hear Mike's voice. Hoping that he'd be helping me and motivating me through this task. When I heard Brenda talk to him, I just wished it was me, but it wasn't. She's the girlfriend and I am the side chick, well, was. I haven't broken up with him but I will," Kendra confessed.
"I'm sorry, friend. Why do I feel like you've caught feelings?" I probed.
"I have, I love him but I have to let him go," Kendra admitted.
She laughed and held my hand. Brenda came with the water bottles.
"I hope this will make you feel better," Brenda said, offering water.
"Thank you," Kendra replied.
"Well done on the second challenge. The final challenge for the day is the easiest," Trainer 1 announced.
"You mean the hardest," Loveness corrected.
"You have 5 minutes to look at these tires and how they've been put into place. You will have to collect the flags that have been put up near some tiles and walk over till the end," The Trainer explained.
"That's easy," Kendra scoffed.
"You will do that, blind folded," The Trainer revealed.
"You've got to be kidding," Simi gasped.
"The mics please, no one will be guiding you. You have to memorize this and do it all on your own. The 5 minutes starts now," The Trainer ordered.
We were all focused and looking at these wheels and how they were set up. "Kelvin always calculates his steps when he walks, he gets familiar with the place in just one go. Maybe if I just know the pattern in my head and calculate how many steps I have to walk till I reach each flag," I thought to myself and calculated.
"Your 5 minutes is up. Stand in your positions, please," Trainer 1 said.
We stood where we were supposed to, there was no team work this time. We all had to be on our own. We were blindfolded, it was very dark I felt like I was going to fall.
"You have 15 mins, your time starts now," The Trainer announced.
I stood for a minute or two just trying to remember. I took the first step and I fell.
"Fuck, this is harder than I thought," I cursed.
I stood up and tried again. Go left, step into the wheel. 1, 2, 3, grab a flag. I told myself that and calculated in my head. It worked! I got the first flag. Go right, take 6 steps into the tires and grab a flag. I fell on the third step but stood up and continued. I seemed to be getting it right. I had 5 flags and 10 more to go.
"Focus Shantel, Focus."
By my calculations I had took all the flags and was moving towards the end.
"You have just one minute left," Trainer 1 warned.
I took three more steps and my chin hit the ground. I fell again, I just laid there and waited.
"Time's up!!" Trainer 1 yelled.
"Take this thing off me!" Brenda demanded.
They took off our blindfolds and I wasn't the only one who was on the ground. Brenda fell right into the tires and she was just sitting there carrying two flags.
"I have the scores of this task. Brenda collected 2 flags, Simi has 4, one doesn't belong to her track so she has 3," Trainer 2 announced. We all had different coloured flags, she has a red flag which belonged to Kendra. That means she walked into Kendra's path of wheels.
"And then Faith has 5 flags, Loveness has 7, Kendra has 10, and the winner is Miss Shantel with 13," Trainer 2 concluded.
"Yey!!! But what happened to the other two, I thought I had them all," I asked.
"You passed two flags on the way," Trainer 1 explained.
"Such a bummer," I lamented.
"That is it for today, you were wonderful to work with, ladies. Follow me to the restrooms so you can freshen up," The Trainer said.
"Where are these dorks who took us to this torturing experience?" Simi demanded.
"They'll be waiting for you at the head quarters for a late lunch," The Trainer informed us.
We went to shower and changed into our clothes.
"My legs hurt so much. And I'm hungry," Brenda complained.
"Are we all done? Let's go," Faith urged.
We went to where they were seating. Brenda went to sit next to Vusi, passing Mike and leaving space for Kendra to sit next to Mike. Kendra looked at her and she shrugged. She sat down and I sat next to Kelvin, I was in between him and Leon.
"May someone bless the food? I feel like we need some prayer around here," Vusi said, clearing his throat.
He was really trying so hard to hold in his laughter. I feel like he is the one who creates these awkward moments, we're both just very over observant. Trish blessed the food and we dug in. I was feeding Kelvin while eating, I realized us sharing a plate makes things a whole lot easier.
"So, you won the blind task?" Kelvin asked.
"Yes, I am in love with a blind man so I have to represent. Being around you has taught me a lot, which helped me win that task," I teased.
He squeezed my hand and I kissed his cheek.
"Why were we just brutally tortured?" Simi asked.
"It wasn't torture, it was training. Plus you look fine to me," Leon replied.
"I broke my nail, Leon," I countered.
"I'm limping," Kendra added.
"My leg hurts," Brenda stated.
"My arm hurts," Faith complained.
"My knee got injured," Loveness said.
"My entire body is hurt and I hated each and every task," Simi finished.
"Cry babies," Mike scoffed.
Brenda threw a bun in his face and we all just laughed.
"If you want a food fight, I'm up for the challenge."
"There's no way you're going to waste such good food."
"Honestly, I am impressed. As much as you were complaining and crying, you completed every task. You were able to work on your own and as teams. There are times where you'll be attacked by an enemy and you're on your own, you have to know how to fight and protect yourself and don't depend on anyone. There are times where you will have to work as a team in order to defeat your enemy. This is all just a way to prepare you for the future. This is for your own good and protection. You're known in the world for doing something great, you will make enemies along the way and you should know how to defeat them. Things will be worse once our enemies know about you and you have to be prepared," Nelson explained seriously.
All of this was for the best and was for our own protection. They went on and on briefing us about the business. We were all just told about the diamond business and
