Because of love

Victoria's POV

The door opened and Bernard walked in. We met eyes with each other, but he quickly looked away and averted his gaze to Alpha Derick.

''Bernard, you never told me you were coming.'' Alpha Derick spoke up, but Bernard ignored him and took the seat behind his desk.

''I'll leave.'' I stood on my feet to leave, but Alpha Derick stopped me.

''No Oli, You should stay.'' He said and moved his gaze back to Bernard.

''Damn, he has already given me a nickname.'' I giggled to myself as I took my seat.

''I believe you've heard the news about the fight.'' He spoke

''Yes…'' He did not let Bernard finish his words, before interrupting.

''Firstly, I need to find Victoria. You know how long I've been searching for her, and this time I won't let the wolverines get to her first.'' Alpha Derick said with a sigh. Hearing those words from alpha Derick dilated my eyes while I stared at Bernard with shocked filled eyes.

''Ridiculous rumors are going around that I handed her over to the wolverines, but you know that I never did such, I wonder how anyone could have such thought.'' Alpha Derick groaned those words and stood on his feet.

''What?'' I muttered out unknowingly.

''Is there something wrong.'' Alpha Derick asked, but I couldn't say a word, rather I eyed at Bernard who couldn't meet my gaze because of guilt.

''Can I have a minute with you, Bernard.'' I said as I stood on my feet.

''Is there a problem.'' Alpha Derick asked, but I ignored him and stormed out of the office waiting for Bernard to come out, which he did after several minutes of waiting.

''I can explain…'' I did not let him finish before landing a hot slap on his face.

''How dare you.'' I yelled angrily, not minding if alpha Derick would hear us because we were just few steps away from his door.

''You lied to me. All this while you knew I was mistaken, but you kept quiet.'' I yelled in rage as I clenched my both fist together while I tried to control my anger. Bernard massaged his jaw for a while before meeting gaze with me.

''I was expecting something worse than this.'' He nonchalantly said those words, showing no anger for the slap I gave him, which outraged me.

''You knew all this while…''

''Yes!'' He spoke Angrily.

''I knew the person you encountered that day wasn't alpha Derick, but rather a hybrid who has the ability to take the form of anyone he wishes for some hours.'' He replied Angrily.

''Shit!'' I blurted out and rested my back on the wall as I processed all Bernard just said.

''I refused telling you the truth because I knew the moment I tell you, I'll lose you again, and I don't want to because I fucking Love You. I'm madly in love with you and I can't help it.'' He cried out while the door of alpha Derick's office opened. He stood by the door, giving us a questioning stare.

''This isn't over.'' I declared and walked away. I left the office building and went back inside the mansion. With a heavy heart, I climbed the stairs and hurried into my room. With tears filled eyes, I rested my back on the door and slide on the floor, while I dragged my knees to my chest and let the tears flow freely on my cheeks.

Hearing those confirmations from Bernard was supposed to make me happy, but I just couldn't help the pain I feel in my heart. The past two years of my life would have been spent with alpha Derick, but rather it was used in hating him and plotting on ways to kill him. All because of a misunderstanding.

''Damn you Bernard.'' I yelled in anger and noticed my hands were bringing out flames of fire, which I quickly quenched.

''Finally.'' My wolf spoke happily, while I heaved a sigh and wiped off the tears on my face with the back of my palms. I got to my feet and made my way to the bed, but a soft knock on my door got my attention.

''Mate.'' My wolf announced to me, while I just sighed and went for the door and opened it. I stood aside and let him walk inside the room before shutting the door behind me. I did not say a word, rather I sat on the bed and lowered my gaze to the floor, wondering if he might have gotten a clue on what was going on.

''Are you and Bernard dating.'' He asked, with his piercing gaze on me, which made me really uncomfortable, but I had to speak up.

''Why would you think that.'' I asked with a murmur.

''Because it's obvious he really likes you, and I heard what he said back there.'' Hearing those words from alpha Derick startled me, but I composed myself and didn't say a word.

''You also love him, don't you?'' He asked with raised eyebrows

''I don't.'' I responded quickly without having a second thought about it, but alpha Derick gave me a doubting look, which implies he doesn't believe my words.

''You love someone else.'' He asked

''Yes.'' I replied and we both held each other gaze before I looked away. He moved away from me and stood beside the window while his back was at me.

''Then I believe it must have been your late mate.'' He asked curious

''Dammit, you are the one I love.'' I grumbled to myself, but didn't say it out to his hearing.

''No.'' I responded, which made he turned around and met my gaze.

''Then who?'' He asked tensed and curious, but I shook my head and said

''That's my personal matter, and I'll like to keep it to myself.'' I said while looking away.

''I'm sorry, what was I thinking.'' He grumbled and looked away. The room was filled with an awkward silence until he decided to speak up.

''Don't come back to the office, You are done for the day.'' He announced, which made me curious.

''But it's just 1pm.''

''Yeah I know, But I won't be at the office, I'm going somewhere.'' He explained. I wanted to ask where he was going, but I couldn't because I do not want him having suspicions on me.

''Alright sir.''

He nodded his head and went for the door, but turned around just when he was about unlocking it.

''You remind me so much of her. Your smile, the way you speak, and your Aura just keep confusing me.'' He murmured and shook his head, but I couldn't bring myself to say a word because I knew I might expose myself.

''I'm sorry…''

''You don't have to be sorry.'' He smiled warmly at me and left the room. Sighing heavily, I sat on the bed and thought about all that happened today and just can't wait to reunite with alpha Derick.

''Victoria.'' I heard Bernard's voice in my head, which made me groan and responded.

''What is it Bernard, are you here to tell me one of your numerous lies.'' I asked angrily, while he sighed and spoke up.

''Everything I did, I did because I'm in love with you Victoria, I'm so much in love with you.'' He spoke in a weak voice, which made the anger in me cool down.

''But now, don't you see that it didn't change anything.''

''Even after being with you for these years, I still couldn't love you or do anything with you because my heart belongs to another.'' I said

''Why Victoria, why don't you love me.'' He pleaded

''I can make you ten times happier than he can ever do, I'll worship the ground you step on and make sure you shed no tears for the rest of your life. Why can't you give me a chance.'' He pleaded, but I shook my head and said

''I can't tell my heart whom to love Bernard. I'm so sorry, but I can't love you, let's be friends.'' I pleaded.

''To hell with you.'' He yelled Through mind Link.

''To hell with being friends with you. I don't wanna be friends with you.'' He spoke Angrily which made me heave a sigh and said

''Then I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do, my heart belongs to another.'' I spoke firmly while I waited for his reply because he took some time before speaking up

''Fine!'' He blurted out.

''See you in the battleground.'' He declared those words which startled me

''What did you say.'' I asked,

''You heard me right, I'll see you in the battlefield.'' He spoke in a firm voice

''You are joking…'' He did not let me finish before cutting in

''You rejected my offer because he is still alive, right?'' He asked in rage

''Then I will have to kill him and claim you as mine. So, I'll see you in the battleground.'' He said those words and ended the mind Link even before I could respond.
