Chapter 98 Between life and death
Chapter 98 Between life and death
Rave was waiting for the vampire king to arrive as the others had arrived way earlier.
“Where is he! He's delaying the plan.”
She said, growing impatient as she wanted to get on with it already.
As soon as she was done speaking, she heard a loud thug behind her and as soon as she turned, her eyes opened wide in shock when she saw Kael lying almost lifeless on the floor.
“He's strong, I thought he would be dead the moment I ripped out his veins.”
Rave looked at him like she was lost in her disbelief for a while before she spoke.
“What did you do?”
The man raised a brow, his face looking very bored but dangerous.
“Shouldn't you be thanking me?”
Rave moved past Kael and walked towards him.
“Why would you act on your own? Don't you know this will put them on the edge?”
To her, his actions were rather stupid and unnecessary for now.
He rolled his eyes before looking back at Kael.
“You think that scares me? If I could take down their alpha and beta without even trying…”
He paused and turned back to Rave.
“What makes you think some little girl will be able to stop me?”
Rave was silent for a while before he moved even closer, making sure they were both looking at each other very closely.
“I don't care how powerful you are, this is my tuff, don't act on your own again… Sebastian.”
She called him by his name with no form of respect to let him know she was still in control.
Their eye contact was intense for a while before he smiled and raised his hands as if he had surrendered.
“As you wish.”
She turned to the side and one of her men rushed over.
“Lock him up in the basement.”
He bowed and carried Kael into the basement, throwing him to the floor before locking him up.
Kael was still breathing but only very faintly. Life was gradually slipping out of him and since he was not healing, he was bleeding out very quickly.
Still unconscious, he found himself in a dark room. He slowly stood up, looking around. He could already tell that wherever he was was not reality.
He sighed heavily
“I guess I've reached the end of the line.”
He bent his head in sorrow. All he could think about was how he had failed Hazel and Lucian.
“Not yet.”
He raised his head as soon as he heard that voice.
He stood still for a while, not wanting to believe that it was what he was thinking.
Slowly, he began to turn, and suddenly, everywhere became bright.
Bright enough for him to see who was in front of him clearly.
“Mom?”
His mom who was standing right in front of him flashed him a smile as she nodded.
His legs felt so heavy as he tried to move closer to her.
His eyes were welling up as he saw someone he never thought he would see again.
When he got close enough, he looked at her, trying not to break down.
“Is it really you?”
She smiled and placed her hand on his cheeks.
“What do you think son?”
“Mom”
He called and hugged her tight as the tears began to pour endlessly.
She consoled him for a while before she spoke.
“Shhh, this is not the time to cry, son.”
Kael moved away a bit and looked at her.
“What is happening? How…”
“Am I here?”
He nodded.
“We are both in between life and death Kael.
I haven't died yet and…”
She went silent for a while, unsure of how to fix her next words.
“What is it?”
She raised her head and looked at him.
“Forgive me son.
I did not betray your father, I was drunk, and young.
Your father knew about it and he still chose me, he still loved you like you were him.”
Kael squeezed his eyes a bit.
“Wait, I… I think I'm confused.”
He looked at her with so many questions in his eyes.
“What are you talking about?”
She sighed heavily, her chest felt like there was so much weight on it and she needed to get it off.
“Your father… is Lucifer.”
Kael went silent. All this while, he thought there would be another explanation for his relationship with Lucifer.
He thought there was a deeper riddle. He never wanted to accept that his mother cheated on his father.
“Lucifer might be your birth father, but Alpha Devon will always be your real father, do not let him down.”
Kael looked back at her, his lips too heavy to speak.
“I know you're angry, you probably want to cuss me out and you have so many questions to ask, but now is not the time.
You have to go back.
It will be hard for me to survive since I'm in the underworld already, but you have to fight Kael. You have to fight for the people who matter to you.”
He was about to speak when she placed her right thumb on his forehead.
“You are surrounded by so many good people Kael, take the rest of my life, and live a very long life with those you love.”
Kael looked at her in shock, finally aware of what she was trying to do.
He shook his head but it was already done.
She smiled as she slowly began to fade away.
“Thank you Kael. Now, I can rest in peace and finally reunite with your father.”
As soon as she said that, she faded away completely and Kael gasped heavily as he finally woke up.
His wound began healing gradually and because of how painful it was, he could not stand up just yet. Not until all of the flesh was restored.
As soon as he was fully healed, he sat up, his eyes were closed as he leaned towards the wall.
He was healed but still very weak.
With his eyes closed, all he could see was Hazel and Lucian and slowly, his eyes opened.
Burning red as a newly found power surged through his body.
