Chapter 97: The reaper

Hazel's heart dropped when she heard his words.

“This is not the time to grow cold, quick, he needs a healer, and we need strategy.”

Zariel spoke as he moved closer and helped Miguel from the floor.

It took a while but they soon got him back to the mansion and to a healer.

Dona rushed to the healer's chamber as soon as she heard they had returned.

Tears flowed out of her eyes as soon as she saw him brutally injured and finding it hard to keep his eyes open.

“What happened to you?”

She stretched out her shaking hands to touch him as she asked.

She then turned to Hazel, but Hazel was so lost in her thoughts that she couldn't even sympathize with Dona at all.

“We have been able to extract all the poison from him.”

The healer spoke.

“It seems he took something, something that saved him from dying long before you would have found him. Whatever it is, it gave us the chance to save him.”

Miguel turned to Dona and she looked back at him, knowing exactly what he was thinking.

It was the pill she had given him a long time ago that he took.

“It is going to take him about five days to fully recover, but he is safe now.”

Hazel nodded and the healer walked out.

Hazel moved close but stayed silent for a while before he spoke.

“I can not read your mind now, seeing how weak you are.

Get some rest, we will talk later.”

As soon as she said this, she walked out, leaving everyone surprised at how calm she was.

Dona looked at Miguel and he nodded.

“Go, she needs you more than I do.”

She immediately agreed and rushed after Hazel.

“Hazel!”

She yelled as she tried to catch up with her.

When she got close and held her shoulder, pulling her so she could turn towards her, she went stiff.

Hazel's eyes were red from holding back her tears.

“Hazel…”

Dona's voice became much lower than it initially was.

“He's dead Dona, I… I can't feel him anymore.”

Dona immediately shook her head and hugged Hazel as the tears began to pour without control.

“Don't say that, we can not assume it until we see his body.”

Hazel still could not stop crying. She could sense something was very wrong, and she did not like it one bit.

After a few hours, she went back to see Miguel. She had calmed down a little and Miguel had also rested pretty well.

She began to read his mind, going back to when they left the mansion.

Few hours ago

“When we return, you will send a message to the families of all the men who were killed.”

Kael said and just as soon as Miguel looked into the rear-view mirror, something fell right on top of the car, causing it to somersault several times.

Both Miguel and Kael who were in the car were severely injured but of course, with strong bloods running through their veins, they were healing pretty fast.

Kael saw feet, walking towards them and soon, the car opened, dragging them out.

He was still lightheaded and healing when he felt long sharp fangs dig hard into his neck.

Miguel wanted to rush over and help but another man held him tightly.

“Don't worry, we'll get to you very soon.”

As soon as he heard that, he silently put his hand in his pocket and picked out some pills, holding them tightly in his hand and waiting.

Soon, the vampire who had dug his fangs into Kael ripped out a huge chunk of flesh.

Miguel's eyes opened wide when he noticed exactly what that creature was.

A reaper, one of the most poisonous and dangerous vampires to exist. Those whose bites no one can survive.

They had been non-existent for as long as he remembered, so seeing one in front of him was a complete surprise.

He wiped his mouth and looked at Miguel.

“You can have that one.”

He said to the other man and before Miguel could fight it, the man also dug his fangs into him.

But he was just a normal vampire who sucked a whole lot of Miguel's blood, leaving him almost lifeless and unable to heal anymore.

Miguel fell to the floor, weak and bleeding. He began dragging himself to Kael, trying to get to him before the vampires would try to stop him.

Luckily for him, they didn't seem to be in such a hurry.

When he got to Kael, he acted like he was trying to wake him up before stylishly placing the pills in his mouth.

He wasn't sure if it would have any effect, but that was all he could think of at that point.

“Take him, they will be waiting for us.”

The other man nodded and picked Kael.

“What about him?”

The reaper looked at Miguel like he was worthless.

“He is of no use to us, he will be dead soon anyway.”

As soon as he said that, he began walking away and the man who had Kael on his shoulder began walking with him.

When Miguel noticed they were gone, he placed his hand in his pocket and took out some more pills, swallowing them before he passed out.

Back to present

Hazel gasped heavily as she came out of his mind.

“What happened? Are you okay?”

Dona asked and she looked at her before looking back at Miguel.

“Did he swallow it?”

Miguel stayed still for a while before he nodded.

“I'm certain he did.”

Hazel placed her hand on her chest as though she was trying to calm herself down.

“The chances of him surviving are a lot smaller than the chances of him not surviving…”

She paused and turned to Zariel.

“But I want to believe he is alive, until I see his body in front of me.”

Zariel nodded. He knew if she got discouraged, there would be no way to win the war.

Her eyes grew dangerously cold.

“First, I need to meet Rave.”
