Chapter 236

When Anna returned to the hospital room, Richard was talking with Edith.

The two looked harmonious, completely unaffected by what had just happened with Christopher.

In fact, Richard was making promises to Edith.

"Whether you forgive Chris or not, I'll always think of you as my granddaughter. Same goes for the baby you're carrying."

"If you don't want to see him, I won't let him come bother you for a while. Whatever you want to eat or do, just tell me."

Richard was essentially saying he'd support Edith if she wanted to keep the baby but not the father-Christopher.

Even Richard was fed up with Christopher. Anna silently mourned for him for three seconds before walking to the bedside with a smile.

"Grandpa, Edith."

Seeing her return, Richard glanced behind her.

Anna said, "Christopher had other business to take care of. He left."

As she spoke, Anna glanced at Edith.

Though Christopher hadn't said anything when he left, she guessed he'd gone to settle accounts with the rest of the Langley family.

Edith noticed her look and frowned slightly in confusion.

Richard snorted. Though he'd said he wouldn't let Christopher disturb Edith, seeing him actually leave like that still left Richard dissatisfied.

"Grandpa, I'll keep Edith company. You should go home and rest."

Anna sweet-talked Richard into leaving.

Richard was indeed tired. After giving Edith a few more instructions, he got up and left.

Anna stood by Edith's bed looking like she had something to say, her eyes sparkling as she waited for Edith to ask.

After a long moment, Edith still hadn't spoken.

Anna couldn't hold back anymore. "Edith, aren't you curious what I just went to do?"

Edith said, "You went to see Abigail."

"How did you know?!" Anna was shocked.

Edith smiled. "Seeing how happy you were when you came in, I could guess."

Thinking about the situation downstairs, Anna's eyes lit up again.

"Christopher really was only good to Abigail because he thought she was you. Just now when Abigail begged him, he completely ignored her. She's probably crying in Maria's arms right now!"

Seeing Anna's excitement, Edith curved her lips cooperatively.

This outcome was what Abigail deserved. It didn't stir much emotion in her heart.

Compared to the Langley family's fate, what she cared more about was...

"Christopher seems to have found a heart donor for Abigail," Anna said. "But Christopher's making them trade the person who killed your mother for it."

She leaned toward Edith excitedly.

"The Langley family treasures Abigail so much, they definitely won't just watch her die. Edith, you can finally get justice for your mother."

Edith's mind wandered, her emotions growing complicated.

The Langley family had deceived Christopher for years. It was only natural he'd punish them. But he actually still remembered what happened to Dione—even using Abigail's donor heart as leverage.

"Edith, Christopher definitely did a lot of wrong things before, but if he can help you find your mother's real killer, would you forgive him?"

Anna asked tentatively.

Edith gathered her thoughts. "Since everything before was a misunderstanding, there's nothing between us to forgive or not forgive."

"Then..." Anna thought she was going to say she'd get back together with Christopher.

Edith said calmly, "Anyway, we probably won't have much chance to see each other again."

Anna froze, remembering what she'd said before. "Edith, are you really planning to leave?"

Edith nodded. "I was developing my career abroad anyway. I only gave it up and came back to take care of him because of his accident. Now that he's recovered, I should go back to my work."

Anna looked at her with disappointment.

Edith smiled. "If you ever go abroad, you can come visit me."

Seeing her mind was made up, Anna didn't say more and chatted with Edith about lighter topics.

Meanwhile.

As Anna had guessed, after leaving the hospital, Christopher moved against the Langley family.

In just one night, Langley Group's stock plummeted. Many partners proposed terminating their contracts, dealing Langley Group a massive blow.

The next day, the entire Langley family gathered at the Langley Villa.

Mike sat on the sofa, facing everyone's questioning looks.

"Mike, we've always trusted you, but the Langley family has had constant problems lately. You owe us an explanation!"

"What happened yesterday? Why did Langley Group take such a huge hit!"

"I heard many partners want to dissolve their contracts. Did you get scammed by someone again?"

Last time Langley Group had problems, it was because Mike's family had been deceived by the fake Emily, dragging many partners down with them. The Langley family assumed this was the same situation.

Nina's face was also dark. "If this continues, Langley Group will be destroyed in your hands!"

Facing Nina's accusations, Mike tried to explain.

"I don't know what happened either. Everything was fine when I came home yesterday..."

Who knew that after one night's sleep, the whole situation would change?

When Mike was woken early by his assistant's call with this news, his blood pressure spiked and he nearly passed out on the spot.

"Everyone calm down. No matter what happens to Langley Group, we still have Chris backing us up."

Mike quickly thought of Christopher. Compared to Hale Group's assets, these Langley Group problems weren't issues.

"I'll call Abby and have her talk to Chris." With that, Mike immediately moved to call Abigail.

Just as he was about to dial, Claire walked in from outside.

She swept her gaze around the room full of family members and let out a cold snort.

"What are you doing here?"

Nina had no kind words for Claire. They hadn't given her any Langley Group shares either. By rights, Claire had no reason to be here.

Claire walked in on her heels, a mocking curve to her lips.

"If you're thinking of asking the Hale family for help through Abigail, I'd advise you to give up that idea now."

Claire glanced at Mike's phone and spoke lightly.

Before Mike could react, Nina's face hardened first.

"What do you mean? What do you know?"

Claire let out an ambiguous snort.

"Though the Langley family isn't top-tier in Starlight City, we're still upper-middle class. To suffer such drastic changes overnight—besides deliberate action, what else could it be?"

"In all of Starlight City, you can count on two fingers the people with that kind of power."

Mike didn't know what had happened at the hospital yet. The first face that came to mind was Edith's.

"Is it the Sanchez family? What did Edith tell Mr. Sanchez now! How long is she going to keep causing trouble!"

Last time she'd brought Ethan to make a scene, demanding justice for Dione, only to be stopped by Christopher. Now what was she doing?

The rest of the Langley family thought the same, urging Mike. "Then hurry up and contact the Hale family! Only the Hale family can stand up to the Sanchez family!"

Claire watched their panic and actually laughed out loud.
