Chapter 44 The Jones
Hannah was shocked. She didn't expect Bryce to be still fooled by Lily's act of pretending to be weak. This time, Bryce came out carrying a black umbrella towards Lily, who was still kneeling weakly.
Lily, who had seen Bryce come out of the house, glanced slowly and cried even harder while shouting his name, until she fell to the ground and tried to get up. She didn't care about the rain and the mud splattering on her body.
Bryce immediately approached Lily and held the umbrella over her, using one hand to help her stand up. Lily immediately hugged him tightly while crying. It was either a perfect act or perhaps Bryce was too stupid to realize it.
"You have a weak body. Being out in the rain will make you sick," Bryce said coldly.
'If I didn't act like this and pretend to be weak, you wouldn't want to see me,' Lily thought to herself, then looked up at Bryce and cried.
"Don't you love me anymore? Lately, you've been cold to me. Is it because I ruined Rossie's gift? I know I was wrong, but I was so jealous. "
" Never mind, let's not talk about it anymore. We've met now. The driver will take you home, and we can talk after everything has settled down! "Bryce remained indifferent.
" Bryce, my brother, is in prison. The Cavendish family is so cunning that they used their power to get rid of us. Jones could never compete with Cavendish, so why did they have to be destroyed, too? Please do something, Bryce!
Bryce glanced at her. Lily was the woman he loved deeply, and to this day, he still loves her, even though it means hurting another woman and fighting with Grandma.
However, the problem with the Cavendish family was all the Jones family's doing, and he had no way to persuade them.
"All the evidence shows that your brother cheated the Cavendish group, and as victims, the Cavendishes have the right to sue for actions that harmed them. Ask your brother to admit his actions so that his punishment will be lighter."
Lily gasped. She had come this far, her body wet and dirty, but Bryce remained unmoved to help her. In the past, whenever she showed weakness and helplessness, Bryce would do anything to help her, but now it seemed useless.
Bryce then asked the driver to take him home and said nothing more.
As soon as Lily got home, Adrian and Daisy approached her, but didn't ask why she was soaking wet, dirty, and pale. They greeted her to ask about her brother.
"How did it go, Lily? Was Bryce willing to help us?" asked Adrian.
Lily shook her head weakly and told them what had happened. Adrian and Daisy looked at each other and snorted in annoyance.
Adrian even slammed his fist on the table. "You useless woman! You've been close to the Johansen family for years, but you haven't been able to get their support and wealth. Why have I raised you all this time?"
Lily's eyes reddened with anger. She had always been in her brother's shadow. Her parents never wanted her because Lily was a girl who could not be the heir to the family.
Lily always got what her older brother didn't want; even food was prioritized for Jake, so it was no wonder she was so skinny. The only reason her parents still took care of her was that they hoped Lily could marry into a wealthy family and bring them glory.
Miranda and Daisy took advantage of Lily's pregnancy outside of marriage and Bryce's accident as an opportunity to bring them closer together. Miranda told Bryce that Lily had saved him, but that didn't help Lily.
They spread the news that Lily was in a coma after helping Bryce and was being treated abroad. They deliberately made up a story that Bryce owed Lily a debt of gratitude.
"Honey, don't be angry anymore. The most important thing now is to save our family's reputation and speed up Lily and Bryce's marriage. That way, we can use this family relationship to help us get out of trouble," said Daisy softly.
Adrian immediately smiled and nodded. What his wife said was true.
"Get married right away? But Mom..." Lily lifted her blouse and showed the stretch marks on her stomach and her slightly wrinkled lower abdomen from giving birth.
Daisy snorted weakly and said, "Just cover it up with a tattoo to hide the marks. After that, you can have hymenoplasty so Bryce knows you're still a virgin!"
Lily was stunned. She was disgusted by the idea. She didn't want to get a tattoo on her body because she wanted to maintain her pure and innocent image. However, the stretch marks remained even after undergoing several laser skin treatments.
"But Mom! If I get a tattoo, I won't look like a pure woman anymore!" protested Lily.
"Huh! It's all your own fault! You were so wild and hung out with so many men that you got pregnant out of wedlock. It's lucky that only we know about it. What if the Johansen family found out?" Adrian snapped, silencing Lily.
Soon after, a servant came out carrying a box.
"Ma'am, everything has been packed."
Once again, Lily was stunned. "That's my jewelry box, what are you going to do with it?"
"I'm going to sell it."
"What? No, you can't do that!"
Lily immediately ran and tried to grab the box. Inside were many pieces of luxurious jewelry, most of which were given to her by Bryce. But Adrian pushed her, and she fell to the floor.
"The company needs money right now. We can survive for a while if we sell these items along with my jewelry. Besides, there's a charity auction in two weeks. We have to make an appearance to get positive coverage and repair the Jones family's negative image. "
In addition, Mrs. Johansen Senior's birthday is coming up soon. The items we buy at the auction can be used as birthday gifts for her, killing two birds with one stone."
Lily looked up, "Jake is the one who bankrupted us! But why do you have to use my jewelry? Why not use Jake's house and car?"
