Chapter 11: Chapter Eleven
“You are the wrong person to talk in the conversation between me and my daughter.” My mother yelled at my father. “Just as unfit for this as your outfit is.”
Of course, she only started singing to this tone when my father listened to everything and then faced her with anger and started to ‘take sides’ with me. According to her although he really did not side me.
I was still wrong about my actions in his eyes, but my mother was level of wrongness was in another realm entirely.
“I had to use this outfit because one of us was unconcerned with the reactions and the eyes that would face our child if people knew her identity, with you being present and recognized you just made your enemies, hers. That is not what any loving mother would do then again, you never did have that emotion, it was replaced with being manipulating and scheming.” My father returned as my mother rolled her eyes.
“Really? Now you want to add your thoughts to it. If you feel like I am not the best for my daughter why did you bring her here?”
“I certainly would not abandon her in the other realm, not the way you have already abandoned her. She did not need two parents doing that to her.” My father returned. “Besides, I was trying to elongate her life by finding the persons after you because she is not suitable right now for taking over the throne from you, That would get her killed by your people faster than she could breathe and I would always protect my daughter.” My father answered my mother who rolled her eyes.
“Ma’am, if I would suggest.” The Principal said in a small voice as my mother's eyes turned to look at him in anger. The anger she was certainly feeling towards me, but she could not express it.
“What?” She snapped at him.
“I would suggest that you try and build a relationship with your daughter, it might not be the light fae ways, but it is the way you can get her interested in that part of her heritage.”
While the Principal was right, he was also wrong. That would have been the best way to make me interested in the light Fae, but I didn’t want to be interested in her side of my family tree, nothing would ever make me interested.
“She should not hope for miracles. That is nothing but one.” I responded.
My mother glowered at me before storming off, not saying anything more.
When she was gone, my father looked at me. “You okay bud?” He asked.
“So, it has to take you, my mother being present to come to visit me.” I asked, both offended that he choose to stay away for a long time and grateful that he dropped everything he was doing when he was doing it and came to meet me.
“Preparing this costume is not easy and I cannot keep using it, people would recognize my power signature from it very quickly and I am trying to avoid that for you.” He replied and then he stretched out his arms and this time, I ran to hug this parent and buried my head in his chest, seeking his warmth and taking as much of it as I could.
“I missed you daddy.” I confessed.
“And I, you baby girl. It won’t be long until holiday now, once school is out, you will spend every minute of every waking hour with me if I can help it.” He said and I smiled because I would like that. It would be just like old times.
“I would love that.” I responded.
“And I also apologize, I was teaching you according to the curriculum which I learned by decades ago. I should have thought that ways of doing things were vastly different and would have prepared you for it.”
“Just like the power stairs?” I corked an eyebrow at him.
“Yes, I would have told you about it a while ago, but I couldn’t before you take the test, not when we were already here. It was against the rules. The only way in which it is not against the rules is if the individuals know about it because those who had passed through it told their family and friends and the news spread across Faery, it is regarded as an open secret.”
“And because I was not in faery, everybody understood it, other than me.” I nodded.
“I have to leave sadly.” Father stated and I looked at my feet, I knew he was busy, but I was thinking that I could spend small time with him.
“Hey kid, smile. It is not the end of the world. I am still very much alive to be troubling you and keeping boyfriends away from you as much as I can.” My father's words were meant to draw a smile from me and that was what they succeeded in doing. I hugged my father tight before letting him go and watched while he left the principal’s office.
Then I turned to face the music.
***************
Three days later and my celebrity status was still high as everybody still looked and pointed and I have had to scream multiple times for them to take a picture since it lasts longer, and they had actually brought out their phones to take me pictures and as if that was not enough.
I was still avoiding Cirdan, although not much successfully these days and Finn was treating me like Royalty which I clearly was although I had begged him to stop but he refused because he was light fae and I was his heir apparent and then the strange feeling had turned into full stomach clawing sensation.
It had increased with time and not only had it increased, but I was also in pain and with no idea on how to stop it.
Bearing the pain just did not seem worth not drawing attention to myself again.
“Iris, are you okay? Your brows are sweaty.” Finn asked me in concern as he reached out to touch my forehead and Cirdan who was sitting a few seats behind us, growled loudly like he was practicing for switching the race he belonged to, to a shifter race.
He has become possessive of me. Everybody was aware of it apart from him. He had not infringed into my space; he was still giving his distance but nevertheless he was acting like a bodyguard from afar.
At Cirdan's growl, Finn snatched his hand back like he was being burnt and his face flushed a healthy shade of red.
“What was that about?” I asked him but when he said nothing, my tone became a command. “Tell me.”
And with the knowledge that I am my mother’s daughter, he could not refuse that command.
“Cirdan had warned me last night that I was getting too touchy with you since I discovered your heritage and that his protection also extended to protecting you from the actions of your friends.” Finn forced out, like I was using a pickaxe to extract the information from him.
“Did he now?” I gritted out, half in pain and half in anger. The nerve on that guy, acting like he owned me when he clearly didn’t, and I needed to inform him about the fact that he didn’t.
“He is right though, I have been in your space too much these days, in my defense, I have been worried about you, but it doesn’t exclude my actions. I am sorry for that.”
“You don’t have to apologize.” I smiled at Finn. “You are my friend, and your touch is not disturbing me, neither are your opinions, unlike opinions of people who don’t have a place in my life.” I responded.
The bell rang and I stood p and turned to Cirdan, ready to give him a piece of my mind when the world tilted and I was crashing into the hard floor, then everywhere went dark.
