The Wait

The Wait
Alex stared at the ceiling as they waited. It was odd how quiet it was now. He'd gotten used to the idle chatter of the others despite their short time here. And as much as he hated just waiting for them he knew it was necessary. Sure if they left they'd probably find them at some point. However, he wasn't sure the risk of being out in the open was worth it.

Although it wasn't like being a sitting duck was any better. And Courtney and Luke were on the other side of the house. Maybe they should go back out there. It would be less nerve wracking than just sitting around and twiddling their thumbs.

Pov Change

"Do you think they're okay?" Tracy asked quietly as they made a turn back towards Beatrice's room. She regretted asking to leave now but it was a bit late for that now she supposed. She just hoped the others were doing fine wherever they were.

"Of course. Courtney and Luke are capable individuals. And Alex is smart enough not to get himself in any trouble," there was a pause as they walked Sam's voice trailing off. Then quietly he added, "hopefully."

Tracy went back to humming silently as they walked. It was less eerie than the whistle of the wend or the chill in the air. Not that it helped much. It was still something at least.

Pov Change

Courtney slowed a little so Luke could catch up. She did feel guilty for dragging him along. He should've been with the others. They probably would've still been together if she hadn't stormed off last night. She figured she'd apologize to everyone if they survived this. Even if she wasn't the best at apologies.

Luke kept looking around as if expecting something going to jump out at them any moment. She couldn't blame him for being on guard. If Vivian wasn't a ghost then this would be easier. Was there a way to harm her? Could they even so much as touch her? Probably not. That would be too easy.

Courtney made a mental note to figure out how they could harm her later. Maybe there was a book on it in the library or something. If they couldn't escape they might as well put up a fight since Vivian wasn't listening to reason anymore.

Pov Change

Eliza had decided to get up and take a look outside. It had been a few minutes since they'd decided to wait in beatrices room. She was already feeling restless. Vivian wasn't exactly the most patient person. And as much as she'd have loved to get out as soon as possible she feared Vivian had already locked them all back in here.

Even if she managed to get everyone together now it probably wasn't going to be the escape she'd wanted. It might have been possible when she'd arrived. But now they most likely weren't going to be leaving without resistance. Vivian was far too gone for that this time. Even if she'd gotten out once the dread in her stomach told her she probably wasn't getting out this time.

Pov Change

Vivian had let Julia leave her sight so she could contain those insolent children. It was far easier to do it herself. But she needed to know Julia was still loyal. It wouldn't do to have an accomplice she couldn't trust completely. This way she got everything she wanted. Unless of course her daughter failed her. Then she'd just have to go down there and teach them all a lesson or two.
