What Now?

What Now?
Eliza held the gun to Julia's back. She was not in the mood to get lost again. It was late and her feet hurt. Her stomach growled as they made their way past a toppled over tree. They'd been out here for hours and it was starting to grow colder. A shiver ran through her as a breeze blew past.

They weren't as lost as they had been hours ago but even if they were on the right track they needed to rest. Even though she hated needing to stop. Julia was in reality just a frail old lady and well she wasn't exactly much for hiking herself. She allowed Julia to rest on a rock as she sat down in the grass looking through the backpack she'd brought with her. She'd brought food and just about anything she thought she might need for this and now she was grateful for being constantly over prepared.

As the sun rose over the horizon Eliza rose with it. She got to her feet wrapping her arms around herself. The morning chill ran through her as she grabbed an MRE out of her bag. Julia was still asleep while Eliza looked through the camping supplies she'd borrowed from her dad. She felt guilty for not telling them where she was really headed. She just didn't need them telling her she was crazy. She knew what had really happened to her.

After she finished breakfast she got to her feet and she shook Julia awake handing her the dried fruit and cereal from an MRE. She didn't intend on staying long. They needed to get those kids out before Vivian hurt someone. She just hoped they wouldn't be too late.

Pov Change

Luke had followed Courtney around all night trying to find some escape route. Now they returned to Beatrice's room to check on the others. When they got there Sam was bent over a bucket Alex had found. Alex knelt next to him, keeping him steady.

When they walked through the door Tracy stopped them and ushered them over to where she'd set up little sleeping spaces. They looked exhausted and Tracy didn't want them exhausting themselves further. She could tell by the somber looks on their faces that they hadn't found anything.

She sighed once they settled down before going to check on Alex. Alex had been busy keeping Sam from doing anything too strenuous. Sam had taken a pretty nasty blow to the head and right now Alex was insistent that he needed rest. He'd also asked Tracy to take a late night trip to the kitchen to grab food and drinks for everyone. He had already deduced that Sam had a concussion. He was keeping Sam under observation to make for sure he didn't get any worse. So far he hasn't thankfully.

Alex's mom was a nurse, as he'd revealed to Tracy, and she'd taught him a little first aid. Sure he couldn't really do much to help under current circumstances but he could keep him from getting worse. That's what mattered. He was even more anxious to get out now though before anyone else got hurt.

“I made breakfast,” Tracy spoke quietly as Sam raised his head to look at her. By breakfast she meant granola bars and Cheetos with fruit punch. Not exactly the most nutritious meal but it would do.

“Thanks,” Alex took the food gratefully as he and Sam leaned against a wall. Sam had been feeling a little better which was good. His nausea had started to ebb but he was still a bit sick. Alex still encouraged him to eat though.

They could hear the distant echoes of eerie screams somewhere down the halls. The morning light had just now started shining through the curtains and the air had grown a little warmer in the house. The light above flickered before going out all together drawing a sigh from Tracy. Probably faulty wiring. That's what she hoped at least.

“Do you think we'll get out?” Tracy decided to voice her fears. She was beginning to worry they wouldn't. There was a crazy ghost stalking the halls. She had every right to worry.

“Of course we will. I believe in us. We just have to stick together,” Alex spoke softly, his eyes following Tracy as she placed anxiously. Then he gently grabbed her wrist to stop her from exerting herself further.

“You need to rest. I can handle things for now,” His voice was soft and calming but it was tinged with worry.

Despite her anxiety Tracy walked over to the corner where she'd set up her blanket and pillow and curled up to sleep. None of them had slept all night and at least a few of them needed to rest so they'd be alert later in case Vivian came back.
