The World's Worst Game

The World's Worst Game
Alex roamed the halls of the second floor. He knew that someone had to be in one of the bedrooms. Vivian's little hint had been too spot on. He knew the other hints wouldn't be as easy so he was glad that he’d at least be able to find someone. He just had to search all the bedrooms to find them. He just feared that he wouldn't be able to find all of them.

He knew there were bedrooms on the first floor but he didn't think Vivian would make it that easy. None of them had been near the third floor. They'd all been more concerned with staying close together. Alex was certain though that Vivian was up to something he just didn't know what.

He was about to head down a different hall to his left when he heard banging on the door to his left. He froze before turning back to the door. “Hello?” He reached for the lock to open the door.

“Alex?! Oh my gosh, do you know what's going on? Are the others okay?” Tracy hugged Alex as soon as he opened the door.

“Vivian split us up. The others are somewhere in the house I just don't know where,” Alex started, “If I can't find them then they'll be stuck here with her.”

“Wait but she said if we found her killer we'd be free to leave,” Tracy let go of Alex who actually hugged her back.

“She changed the rules,” Alex wanted to hurry and find the others so he knew they'd be safe.

“How long do we have?” Tracy took a few steps back. She didn't like the way things were going.

“7 hours,” Alex peered up at the clock double checking himself. “Yeah 7 hours. We should split up. This house is huge and none of us have even been past this floor,” Alex finished his thought process as he headed up the stairs to the third floor.

Tracy was confused as Alex ran off but she headed back to the first floor. There was no way Vivian would put them that close together. It would be far too easy. She also knew that some of the best hiding spots were in plain sight or close to the seeker.

There was an old portion of the house that looked as though it were being remodeled when Vivian passed away. None of them had gone close to it. At least not yet. She knew Alex was right about them splitting up though because it was the only way to find the others in time.

She took a deep breath opening the door into the undiscovered portion of the house. They still had 7 hours left so they could do this. They just had to look on the bright side. Alex had found her with a whole lot of time left and two heads were definitely better than one in situations like this.

She felt a cold breeze blow past her as she went further into uncharted territory. There were old rusty paint cans littering the floor. There was little to no furniture in the rooms she passed. The air was damp and the lights flickered. This was like a scene out of a horror movie. A chill ran up her spine and she felt as though she were being watched.

There were two double doors at the end of the hall. The elegant bronze handles had a rusty chain padlocked around them. They'd been sealed shut. Perfect. At least she knew that someone was in there. She just needed keys or bolt cutters to get them out.

Sam got up and pressed his ear to the door. An unearthly hum came from the other side. The cold concrete under his feet was cracked in places. He heard something move outside; he just couldn't tell what it was.

“My beautiful trophies. Soon another will join you. Soon my set will be complete,” an icy voice echoed, sending a chill through him.

He suddenly felt sick. He was in a room in the basement. Vivian was right outside talking to skeletons. There was no way they were going to find him. He wasn't even sure they knew to look for him down here.

He pressed his hand against the door hearing the wood creak and groan as he pushed against it. He didn't even try the handle. He knew she'd locked it when she put him in here. He had to get out of her. He didn't intend to stay down here. Not when he knew there were corpses right outside the door.

Alex stood before a pile of odd objects stacked up to the attic door. The door was open a crack and Alex could just barely see someone pacing inside. This was good news. He had found two before the second hint had even been given. Although this one had been rather obvious. He felt a bit disappointed in Vivian. He'd genuinely thought she would have made this a bit harder.

He looked at the wooden box-like thing at the bottom of the stack. If he pushed this out from under the rest of it then all of the junk would fall and the door would open. Then he'd just have to get the ladder from the kitchen. He just had to hurry.

It took a few minutes but he managed to dislodge it. The second he did he destabilized the rest of it and it fell with a rather loud crash. He was rather shocked that he actually managed to do it but he did. Now to go get the ladder from the kitchen. He left in a rush wanting to keep all his new acquaintances safe.

Luke moved towards the attic door when he heard the crash. He watched Alex rush back down the stairs confused. He hadn't expected to get released this soon. He'd actually assumed the others had been in similar situations. Apparently he'd been wrong.

He waited patiently for Alex to come back. He was rather surprised to see Alex with a ladder. He didn't think there had been one in the house. If he'd have known then it would have made getting his jacket down easier. “Where'd you get that?” He called down.

“Kitchen,” Alex answered bluntly as he braced the ladder against the wall.

Luke climbed down quickly not wanting to remain up there any longer than he had to. He still had a headache from when he hit his head earlier. He had to admit that he was relieved that he hadn't been left there long. He started going stir crazy with nothing to do and no one to talk to.

“We need to find Sam and Courtney,” Alex stopped him before he could ask. “Tracy's downstairs on the first floor. I don't think there's anyone else on the second floor, feel free to look though. I'm gonna finish checking up here. I suggest you go help Tracy.” Alex could take command when he had to. He wasn't dependent on someone else to do everything for him. Sure he liked silence and being alone but he wasn't weak. He watched as Luke nodded and headed off to find Tracy.
