Chapter 92

Chapter 92

Early in the morning, I opened the window to get some fresh air.

Levi walked over to me. "Aren't you cold?"

He was wearing a white sweater today, just the way I liked it.

I loved seeing him in white clothes the most. The first time I met him, he wore a white shirt and dress pants. I remember thinking, how can someone make clothes look that good?

"I'm okay."

I held my coffee, watching the cold air meet the steam, releasing a faint aroma.

"Hayden's up pretty early. I'm going to pick up our daughter so they can play together." Levi noticed Hayden playing alone in the yard, looking a bit lonely.

I'd been held up that day and hadn't brought Celestia home yet. She was probably a little mad at me, thinking I'd broken my promise.

"Cleo went out early this morning. The kid wakes up early when she does. I've noticed Hayden seems down lately. I'm really worried their situation is affecting him."

"It's not a big deal."

As an uncle, Levi would definitely protect Hayden, but suddenly losing his father would certainly change his personality.

I closed the window and sat down on the sofa, leaning to one side.

Levi put on his coat, adjusting his cuffs. "Mr. Yosef Kingsley's birthday celebration is tonight. Get ready and come with me."

"Me?"

His asking me to get ready was different from my preparing things for him.

"Yeah."

I put down my cup and looked at him seriously. "Are you sure? It doesn't seem right for me to go with you, does it?"

Was the sun rising in the west today? He'd never asked me to be his date to events before, and this birthday party would have people bringing their families.

"It's fine."

Levi dropped that line and left, leaving me sitting there in a daze.

I started worrying about how Levi would introduce me. Even as his secretary, it seemed a bit inappropriate. Bringing your secretary to this kind of private party was weird.

But Levi had always had status and reputation. Even if people gossiped, they wouldn't dare go too far. As long as I pretended not to see or hear anything, I could just tough it out.

Levi was used to making his own decisions and wouldn't take no for an answer. I could only take it one step at a time. Maybe if Celestia couldn't do without me tonight, I wouldn't have to go.

……

As it turned out, Celestia and Hayden were having too much fun and completely ignored my silent plea for help.

I thought Levi would change into formal wear, but he just wore his white sweater with a camel-colored wool coat.

I'd prepared a really elegant long dress that Nola had strongly recommended I buy, but it didn't match Levi's outfit.

What surprised me even more was that Levi pulled out an identical white sweater for me to wear. It kind of looked like matching couple outfits.

As soon as we got out of the car, he pulled me inside. I realized what was happening a bit late, and when we were almost at the door, I broke free.

"Mr. Morgan, watch the impression you're making. I'm your secretary right now, aren't I?"

Since I didn't know what role Levi had set for me, secretary seemed safest.

Levi glanced down at me. "No one's going to ask who you are. Just stand next to me."

I scoffed at that. How could people not be curious? If he didn't have such a high status, people wouldn't pay attention to me anyway.

As soon as we entered, several people came up to greet him, introducing themselves and making small talk, essentially seeking opportunities to work with him.

I stood to the side, not even counted as decoration. If he hadn't insisted I come along, I probably would have been pushed aside already.

"Mr. Morgan, I've heard so much about you. Meeting you today, you truly live up to your reputation."

"I told you Mr. Morgan is talented and handsome. How old is your daughter? Maybe she could meet my youngest son. Who knows, they might become friends."

Not only were there people wanting to work with him, but also people wanting to become Levi's father-in-law. My heart felt bitter. Maybe I really was holding Levi back from a powerful marriage alliance. My broken family background couldn't help him at all.

Chase was always causing trouble and asking for money instead.

Levi just smiled without responding, creating an awkward silence.

I followed behind him, not daring to say much.

"Mr. Morgan, your presence here truly honors us."

"Mr. Uriah Kingsley, hello."

This was Alaric's father. He'd organized this birthday celebration for his elderly father, Yosef. First, the event could bring him connections, and second, it was a public display of filial piety, establishing him as a devoted son.

Levi lightly bumped my arm, and I immediately understood.

I presented the gift. "Mr. Uriah Kingsley, this is a birthday gift Mr. Morgan prepared. Please pass it on to Mr. Yosef Kingsley."

"And this is?"

Levi smiled lazily. "My partner."

The word "partner" confused Alaric's father. He could only nod with a smile. "Welcome, welcome."

Melodious music started playing, and everyone turned to look. I saw Jessa standing center stage playing the violin. She looked absolutely beautiful tonight. Even I, as a woman, felt moved, let alone the men.

I kind of understood Levi now. How could anyone not like such a wonderful person?

Setting aside our conflicts, Jessa really did have class.

When the piece ended, everyone applauded. I secretly watched Levi's expression. He seemed to appreciate her performance, too.

I didn't feel jealous or envious. I thought this was a normal reaction. Everyone likes beautiful things.

"One more."

Alaric asked Jessa to play another piece, so amid everyone's anticipation, Jessa played another song. If the first one was just a warm-up, this one was truly flawless and beautiful.

I got lost in her melody. The music was so moving that I wanted to dance. Everyone started dancing to the music.

"Ms. Blair Ember, may I have this dance?"

Levi suddenly extended his hand, inviting me to dance. I froze completely. When I came to my senses, I really wanted to punch him. I was already uncomfortable, and he was teasing me.

"Dance what? I'm going over there to cool off. It's too hot here."

"I'm serious."

Levi called after me and caught up.

I stopped in my tracks, and he bumped right into me.

"You..."

I turned around and saw Levi rubbing his finger.

"What happened?"

Levi said quietly, "You suddenly stopped."

I suddenly stopped, and he was trying to reach for me, so my back bent his finger?

"Why aren't you chatting with them? Why are you following me around? What boss constantly follows their own secretary?" I was really speechless.

I didn't really like attending these overly lively gatherings, especially now that my position was unclear. I felt like an innocent intruder, completely out of place here.

"Then you'd be too lonely."

"I..."

Since when did he care about my feelings? He'd been really strange lately...
