Chapter 84

Chapter 84

The office got busy again. The new product was getting pretty good feedback.

Nola asked me out for drinks to celebrate our product's success.

I turned her down. I just wanted to go home, eat, and sleep.

I was exhausted today. Spent most of the day working on design sketches. WR wanted me to design a necklace as a wedding gift for the daughter of some Lumaria executive.

This wasn't part of our contract. They said they'd pay top dollar for it.

I refused.

I agreed to design it, but I wouldn't take a cent. When I was at my lowest point, they were willing to invest in me. I'll consider this my way of saying thanks.

As soon as I got home, I smelled something delicious.

Indigo is really talented. I never get tired of her cooking.

"Mrs. Morgan, wash your hands and come eat."

"Okay."

Right when I walked in, Indigo came over carrying a food container.

The driver was waiting at the door too. I was about to ask what was going on when he spoke first.

"Mrs. Morgan, good evening."

"Yes, good evening..."

I saw Indigo pack up the container and hand it to him, then I turned back to ask them about it.

"Is this for him to take to the office? Is he working late tonight?" I was confused. Even when working late, Levi rarely had food sent from home.

Indigo hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "No, Mr. Morgan asked me to pack some food to send to Miss Greer."

No wonder Indigo hesitated. The food was for Jessa.

Levi really changes fast. Just last night, they were hugging, and today, he's already sending her food and showing all this care?

"Well, hurry up and send it then, or the food will get cold, and he'll blame you."

The words came out dripping with jealousy.

The driver took the bag and waved respectfully, "Mrs. Morgan, I'll be going then."

"Okay."

I slowly went to wash my hands. Looking at myself in the mirror, I gave a bitter smile.

Indigo kept hovering by the door. I could see her through the doorway. She understood me, knew I must be upset about this.

Who wouldn't be upset? Who could be that understanding? Who could stand their husband caring for another woman?

I opened the door and gave Indigo a smile.

"Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Morgan gave the order. I had to follow it." Indigo looked troubled.

"Yeah, it's fine. I just remembered I left an important document at the office. I need to go get it, or it'll affect tomorrow's work."

I had no appetite. I just wanted to get out and clear my head. Whenever I stayed home, I thought of Levi, and thinking of Levi made me angry.

"Why don't you eat first before you go?"

"Don't save dinner for me. I'm going to discuss some things with Nola."

Indigo looked like she wanted to say something, but stopped. She probably figured she couldn't talk me out of it, so she didn't continue.

On the way, I called Nola three times. First time asking her out for drinks; second time saying I wasn't going; finally saying I did want to have a drink after all.

Nola asked if something was bothering me. I said I just felt like drinking.

Since I'd already turned her down earlier, she'd made plans to meet her blind date for drinks. He was already there, so the three of us ended up drinking together.

This bar was a really relaxed little place with hardly anyone there, so we could drink in peace.

Nola ordered me an ice cream instead of pouring me alcohol.

"Blair, if you're in a bad mood, just eat something. No need to drink. With your tolerance, I'm afraid Levi will come and say I have no sense."

"Don't mention him. Mentioning him makes me want to drink a whole bottle."

"Did you two fight?"

Nola pushed the ice cream in front of me and took a sip of her own drink.

"No."

I grabbed her glass. "Pour me a drink, or I'll just drink yours."

"Hey, you..."

Before she could react, I downed the whole glass.

This time I didn't cough. The drink went down smooth.

"Levi?"

"Yeah, what?"

Nola's date asked me, and I just answered casually.

"Let me introduce you. This is my drinking buddy, John Williams." Nola introduced her blind date.

"Hello."

I raised my glass and toasted him.

He was pretty easygoing and downed it in one gulp too.

"That Levi you mentioned - is that the CEO of the Morgan Group?"

John's eyes lit up when he mentioned Levi.

Nola laughed, "Forgot to mention, he's a fan of your Levi."

"Her Levi?"

John looked confused. Nola suddenly realized she'd said the wrong thing. She'd probably gotten so comfortable with him these past few days that she spoke without thinking.

My relationship with Levi was supposed to be a secret.

"Blair, what do you say?"

Nola looked to me for help, practically wanting to sink into the floor.

"Since he's your good friend, just tell him the truth. He looks like he can keep a secret." I didn't care anymore. If Nola brought him to meet me, she must trust him.

"Blair is actually Levi's wife, the mother of his child. They're secretly married. You're one of the few people who know about this, so you have to keep it secret."

John covered his mouth, "So that scandal from before was true."

"Yeah, today you're meeting her in person - your idol's wife. Go ahead and worship her."

John clasped his hands together, "To be honest, I really admire Mr. Morgan. My dad talks about him all the time at home, saying if only I had one-tenth of Mr. Morgan's ability."

"Is your father a fan of his, too?" I joked.

"Huh? Haha..."

John couldn't stop laughing. He really had a low threshold for humor.

Nola smiled, "You two drink together. If you get her drunk enough, you'll get to meet your idol."

"Really?"

"You dare?"

John covered his forehead, "Wouldn't it be kind of rude for us to get her drunk?"

I listened to them talk while drinking on my own.

I don't know how much time passed, but I started feeling dizzy and finally stopped.

John was so excited, telling us over and over how much he admired Levi and all the great things he'd heard about him.

I do love that brilliant, shining Levi, but he makes me so angry and sad.

If you've separated, why help Jessa? And if you're already helping her, why be so thoughtful and send her food?

I kept drinking more and more. By the time Levi came to pick me up, I was drunk.

He held me and said goodbye to Nola and the others.

John wanted to say a few words to him, but Nola pulled him away.

I rubbed my eyes, my head buzzing, and looking at Levi in front of me, I couldn't help but pinch his face.

"Why is it always unpleasant? Why?"

I was talking to myself, but also asking him.

Why can't things just stay good between us? Why do we have to be unhappy every few days?

"Let's go home first."

"'Go home' again. Can't you say something else? Don't you know I hate hearing that?"

I thought about how he comforted Jessa, also telling her to go home first.
