Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Arabella was very unstable emotionally. The situation was really bad for her, and her hands kept shaking. Several times, I thought the knife was about to cut my throat.

Faye wanted to create an opportunity for the police behind me. She held up her phone and tried to take two steps toward us.

"I'm warning you, if you dare hurt my sister-in-law, I'll really post it online, and you'll be completely disgraced."

"Ha, my reputation is bad? They'll only think Chase is useless. After all these years with him, what good has it done me? He's just gotten more and more worthless." Arabella had long been disgusted with him. After all, he wasn't young anymore and couldn't satisfy her financially either.

I suddenly understood why they could be bought off by Aiden back then. If Jessa and Levi got together, they could gain more benefits. But at that time, they must have been desperate for money, so taking the money and leaving the country was the best option.

"Mom, how can you say that about Dad? And you betrayed him..." Jessa didn't know about her dirty secrets.

Arabella glared at her. "You useless thing, what right do you have to criticize me? What right do you have to blame me on his behalf?"

"Mom, you and Dad have always been good together. I really don't understand."

Jessa pointed at the knife in her hand. "Put down the knife first. Don't do anything stupid. What you're doing is illegal. Haven't you learned your lesson?"

"Are you trying to tell me what to do?"

The knife that Arabella had held against my neck suddenly moved away and pointed at Jessa. "You ungrateful thing, don't you know whose side you should be on?"

At that very moment, the police officer behind me sharply caught the opportunity. With a quick move, he restrained Arabella's arm, twisted her wrist, and the knife fell at her feet...

With the sound of the knife hitting the ground, my heart also dropped.

My legs instantly went weak, and I could barely stand.

"Let go of me, let me go!"

Arabella struggled desperately, still glaring at me viciously.

"Why does someone still protect you? You should have died long ago. We shouldn't have let you leave safely back then!"

Such vicious words. Back then, my mother and I were bullied by her every day. We had no choice but to leave with nothing. And she actually regretted letting us go...

What did we do wrong to be treated like this? We lost our complete family. Especially my mother, who gave everything to Chase, only to end up dying of depression.

And Arabella easily got everything that should have belonged to us. She still wasn't satisfied. She still hated me?

This was absolutely ridiculous!

"You're much stronger than that pathetic woman. She only knew how to be submissive, unlike you, who's always in my way."

"Save your words for the judge. Don't make a scene in my house!"

I used all my strength to fight back against Arabella. After saying that, I lost my balance and almost fell. Fortunately, Levi caught me, and I collapsed into his arms.

"Please take her away. We don't agree to any settlement. She broke into our home and threatened someone with a weapon!"

Levi said each word clearly and forcefully.

Arabella argued, "Don't try to frame me. I didn't hurt her."

"The police officers saw the situation after they arrived, and I'll provide our home surveillance footage from before they came," Levi argued with reason.

"Home surveillance..."

Levi looked down at me. "I was worried, so I installed an extra camera at home. Otherwise, I wouldn't have come back so quickly."

So that's how it was. Now it made sense. I had been wondering how Levi could come back so quickly after just leaving.

"We need everyone present to give a statement," one officer said.

"Yes, yes, we'll definitely cooperate. This way, please." Indigo, being the elder, was much calmer than us.

Arabella was taken away by the police while cursing at me. I kept watching her. Even at the last moment when she got in the car, she was still cursing me.

There really are such vicious women in this world. Back then, my mother was weak and afraid I'd be bullied, so she gave in everywhere. In the end, it only made Arabella push for more.

I never expected that she would come to hurt me right after being released...

If Levi hadn't seen what was happening at home through the surveillance today, what would have happened?

If I couldn't meet Arabella's demands, would I really have lost my life?

It's scary just thinking about it. When those people go crazy, they're truly terrifying.

We all finished giving our statements one by one. Jessa didn't lie to cover for her mother either. She described everything she saw in detail.

After the police left, the house finally quieted down.

I couldn't stop shaking. Levi kept holding me. I kept spacing out from time to time, couldn't care about anything else, and just sat there in a daze, not wanting to talk.

"Mrs. Morgan, let me make you some soup. You didn't eat much breakfast, and you just had such a scare." Indigo's eyes were full of concern.

I shook my head. "I can't eat. Don't trouble yourself."

"Go prepare it. She should eat at least a little." Levi gently stroked my back. He had never been this gentle before. But my heart kept racing, and my mind felt empty.

Faye pouted. "Levi, I think sister-in-law is really scared. Maybe we should find a spiritual medium. Sometimes these mystical things can help."

"Superstition."

Levi directly rejected her idea. It was both funny and sad that she would think of that.

"Levi, can we talk alone?" Jessa asked quietly.

Faye rolled her eyes. "Jessa, how do you still have the nerve to stand here? Your mother came with a knife to attack Blair. What are you people thinking?"

"Faye, I really didn't expect this. I was trying hard to stop her, too. My mom just has a bad temper. Recently, I suspect she has some mental problems."

"She is crazy, but don't use mental illness as an excuse. Do you think saying she's mentally ill means she won't be legally responsible? We won't settle this case."

Faye spoke quickly, not allowing her to explain further.

Jessa looked at Levi pitifully. "Levi, can't we really talk properly? So many things have happened recently, we..."

"There's no need."

Levi interrupted her, not letting her continue.

He moved his arm from around me and sat upright beside me.

"What happened today is her own doing."

"Levi, how can you say that..."

Faye was really speechless. "Levi's not blind. He can see how you people have treated my sister-in-law. Honestly, if I were you, I'd want to dig a hole and hide in it right now. I'd be too embarrassed to stay here."

"Faye, you don't understand. It's not like that..."

"Don't try to get close to me. We're not that close. Levi still can't bear to say certain things to you. Don't embarrass yourself. Just leave!"

Faye accurately expressed Levi's meaning. Perhaps this was the last bit of kindness toward Jessa.
