Chapter 39
The hangover made me feel terrible. Seeing how miserable I was, Nola took me to the hospital.
The doctor repeatedly reminded me to take good care of myself and said I absolutely shouldn't drink excessively anymore.
I didn't tell Nola about my visit to the Greer family. I didn't want to trouble others, and I couldn't keep using Nola as an emotional dumping ground.
She was worried about me going home alone, so she personally drove me back.
I took a pretty sound afternoon nap, but the noise downstairs woke me up. Indigo had no choice but to come get me.
"Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Greer is here. He keeps saying he wants to see you."
Chase is here?
We just saw each other yesterday, and now he's at my house today?
But he alone couldn't be making this much noise.
"Is there someone else?"
I said while putting on my clothes.
"Miss Greer is also here. She keeps telling Mr. Greer to leave."
What's this all about?
Yesterday at the Greer family, I didn't see Jessa. Her mother must have kept the deal with me a secret from her. And now that Chase came to find me, she probably feels her father's love is threatened?
That doesn't really make sense, though, considering the choice he made back then.
"Mrs. Morgan, keep the peace. Don't hurt yourself because of them." Indigo reminded me not to let anger damage my health.
She knows me well - I easily get furious when facing the Greer family.
"I've already notified..."
"Blair, what's your deal? It's been forever, and you haven't shown up. You think you're so important."
Jessa's words interrupted Indigo. She's not even pretending to be a lady in front of Indigo anymore. Looks like when she joins the Morgan family in the future, she probably won't treat Indigo well either.
After our repeated confrontations, she's probably figured out that Indigo is on my side.
"How dare you talk to your sister like that!"
Chase scolded Jessa loudly, which shocked her.
She stared at Chase. "Dad, what are you saying? What do you mean? Have you forgotten? She's not part of the Greer family anymore."
"They were the ones who said they wanted to cut ties with the Greer family!"
Chase rolled his eyes at her. "No matter what, she and you both have my blood. You're blood sisters."
"Dad, have you lost your mind? How can you face Mom and me? Why are you suddenly acknowledging her? Blair, what tricks did you use to confuse my dad?"
I was really confused by them. What are they doing with this act? Chase is claiming me as his daughter now?
"You should ask him why he insists on claiming a relationship with me."
I sat down and quietly watched them perform.
Indigo handed me a cup of tea. "Mrs. Morgan, don't worry, everything will be fine."
Chase sat down next to me with a flattering smile. "Jessa, we're family. How could there be any talk of claiming relationships?"
"Dad!"
Jessa was nearly breaking down. "What are you doing? What are you calling her? Have you lost your mind?"
"Right, right, I should call her Blair. Blair is a good name, too. Your mother chose a good name."
He could say anything, but he absolutely couldn't mention my mother. That was definitely crossing my line.
I glared at him. "You don't deserve to talk about my mom."
"Uh, well, yes, I was young and reckless back then and did some bad things. I know I was wrong." Chase took the initiative to admit his mistakes.
But what's the point now?
I knew he wanted something from me; otherwise, he wouldn't be humbling himself like this.
"Dad, come home with me. Why are you saying all this to her? Be careful, or I'll tell Mom when we get home." Jessa was getting anxious.
Chase scolded her. "Don't interfere. Go ahead and tell her, you useless thing."
So now he's treating Jessa and her mother badly? Or is he just putting on a show for me?
"Dad, what exactly are you trying to do?"
Jessa was troubled. She didn't understand what Chase was up to.
"Blair, Dad told you before that the company isn't doing well right now. If we could cooperate with the Morgan Group, things would definitely improve."
So it's still about getting me to whisper in Levi's ear.
But why would he think I'd help him?
Wouldn't it make more sense for him to ask Jessa for help? Given Jessa's current relationship with Levi, wouldn't that be easier than going through me?
"Dad, didn't I tell you not to bother Levi with work matters?"
To maintain her image in Levi's eyes, Jessa didn't want to help her father make connections. Perhaps Chase still didn't know that she and her mother had taken Aiden's money.
"If you won't help me, I'll find my own way. Now get out and go home."
Chase was trembling with anger. He was now pinning his last hope on me, but Jessa was right - he was so confused. How could I possibly help him!
"You've definitely come to the wrong person. Your good daughter has more influence than I. Your visit today is pointless." I smiled, laughing at his ignorance.
"Rely on her? Forget it, she's useless."
Chase was clearly disappointed in Jessa. Their dog-eat-dog display was quite ugly to watch.
"Dad, I never thought you would..."
"Mr. Morgan, you're back."
Indigo's words broke up the dispute.
We all looked at Levi. Why did he suddenly come back?
It wasn't until Indigo gave me a look that I remembered she had wanted to tell me earlier that she'd already called Levi.
She probably called Levi home because she was afraid it would be too hard for me to face them alone.
But I didn't want Levi to see this scene. The whole thing with the Greer family was meaningless anyway.
"Levi, why did you come back?"
Jessa walked up to him, pretending to be calm.
"Mr. Morgan, finally, we meet. I should have come to visit after you and Blair got married." Chase became polite.
I awkwardly stood there, embarrassed. How could they perform so calmly?
"What brings you to my house?"
Levi didn't beat around the bush. He probably heard some of the conversation earlier.
"It's nothing, Levi. My father just wanted to meet you." Jessa tried to maintain a peaceful demeanor. She didn't want Levi to have a bad impression of the Greer family.
"Right, right. Blair is also my daughter. Our two families should get together. We just got back to the country and knew you were busy, so I came to visit today."
Chase was talking to Levi in the name of being my father.
I really wished he would disappear on the spot. If I could, I really didn't want to have any blood relation with him at all.
"I..."
I didn't know how to explain. With Jessa, I could at least see her as someone who destroyed my family, but Chase's sudden visit was really too hard to explain.
Levi took out a card from his pocket and handed it to Chase. "I should be the one visiting you."
Chase was overjoyed. Whether Levi was doing this because of Jessa or me, he was the one who benefited.
"Then I'll gladly accept this."
"Dad, this... Levi, I..."
Jessa was even more embarrassed than me. Levi had given money to settle the matter.
But I didn't like this way of solving things...
