Chapter 172
I had a wonderful afternoon nap.
Rhea called to say she was sorry we didn't have lunch together. I told her something had come up suddenly and I had to leave without saying goodbye, and asked for her understanding.
I came to the living room and went downstairs. It was already evening.
"Mrs. Morgan, have a cup of hot tea."
"Okay."
I figured I wouldn't be sleeping early tonight anyway, so having some tea wouldn't hurt.
Indigo placed the teacup and teapot on the coffee table, then bent down to get me an orange.
"You've been sleeping since you got back and didn't even have lunch. Are you hungry?"
"No."
I took the orange and started peeling it. The bright orange color lifted my spirits, and the unpleasantness from this morning at the Morgan mansion had long since disappeared.
"What do you want for dinner?"
"Is he back?"
"Yes, Mr. Morgan went to the study. He saw you sleeping soundly and didn't want to disturb you."
I looked out the window. The sunset was fading.
"Make something he likes. I don't have much appetite today, I'll just have a bite."
Indigo smiled. "Mr. Morgan said earlier to make something you like. You two are really getting more in sync."
"We're not in sync, it's just a coincidence."
Just as we finished talking, we heard voices outside. I hadn't seen anyone yet, but suddenly there were voices.
"Blair, we're here!"
Nola shouted loudly, as if afraid I wouldn't know.
"Miss Skye is here."
Indigo went to the door to greet them. I saw her and John carrying bags and packages as they came in.
"Just coming is enough. Why bring so much stuff?"
I took Nola's arm and led her to sit down. Watching John and Indigo put things away in the storage room one by one, I couldn't help but laugh.
"He insisted on coming over, saying that since Levi solved the raw materials problem for the company this time, we should come visit."
"He kept it hidden pretty well. That day, he pretended he didn't know anything. If he hadn't passed on the information, Levi wouldn't have gone on that business trip to get those supplies."
John walked over awkwardly and stood next to Nola. "I really just mentioned it casually. Levi's just too efficient."
"Then should we cut your rent in half as punishment?"
Nola laughed. "Blair, I already told you, the warehouse fee is completely free."
"That won't do. We can't let him make money, but we can't let him lose money either."
I saw that Nola looked well, so she must have been taking good care of herself lately.
"Indigo, make a few more dishes tonight."
"Okay, Mrs. Morgan, I'll get right on it."
"Go tell him first in the study, tell him we have friends visiting."
"Okay, I'll go right away."
Nola grabbed my hand. "Blair, you two are doing okay, right? Is that foreign girl being clingy?"
"Not really. After all, she's from a wealthy family, so she has some class. She's just deeply in love with Levi. Even knowing he's married, she still won't give up."
"You know what, your husband's admirers are all so devoted. It must be tough dealing with them."
I handed John an apple. "You're much easier. You're devoted to Nola. You should take this as a lesson and never fool around."
"I don't have that kind of charm. I was single for years before I met my wife."
John took a crunchy bite of the apple and waved it at Nola. "Levi's apples are really sweet. Let's take some home when we leave."
Nola glared at him. "You're already planning to eat and take stuff home right after arriving?"
"If this could cover the rent, I'd have two truckloads delivered to you."
"You're really funny, you're about to surpass me."
Nola held her waist. "Stop being silly, you never act serious."
"Hey, if I were as uptight as Levi, you'd find it boring."
"Ahem."
Hearing Levi's cough, John froze completely. An awkward smile stuck on his face as he gave us a look of utter despair.
Nola and I were both trying not to laugh. We both looked down and ate snacks, neither of us saying anything to break the silence.
John stood up, turned around, and grinned stupidly at Levi. "Oh my, my idol is here. My apologies, my apologies. I made a little joke, and the man himself heard it."
"Feel free to speak."
Levi wasn't bothered by it at all and instead encouraged him to speak freely.
"Well, I have to say, after this trip abroad, your whole spirit is different, your perspective has changed, too. You're truly my idol."
"I told you to speak, not to kiss up."
Nola didn't give him any face, letting him stay embarrassed.
John laughed. "Hey, let's sit down and talk. If you're standing, I don't dare sit."
"Relax."
Levi sat down across from us, while John sat on a separate small sofa nearby.
"Blair, I went to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor said the baby is doing great. I asked her if I could have a little alcohol, and she said yes. We should have some drinks tonight."
Nola had been wanting to drink for a while. She'd been holding back.
"When did the doctor say that?" John asked curiously.
"During my examination. You were outside and didn't hear." Nola blinked, afraid he would object.
Indigo came over to refill the teapot, smiling slightly. "Miss Skye, Mrs. Morgan is pregnant too. Maybe wait until after the babies are born to drink."
"What!"
Nola's eyes widened. She stared at me without moving.
Indigo must have been worried I'd feel awkward refusing, so she mentioned my pregnancy. Since Nola wasn't an outsider, there was no need to keep it secret.
But I hadn't told her a word about my pregnancy. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to rest easy at home.
"Almost four months now, about two months ahead of your baby."
"Wait, why didn't you share this with me? This is your second child, and you're ahead of me again?"
Nola kept staring at me, finding it unbelievable.
Her expression made me laugh.
"You had that bleeding scare before, which really scared me. I wanted you to rest peacefully at home."
"Oh my god, I'm really shocked. Didn't you say you weren't considering a second child for now?"
Indigo filled each teacup, stood up straight, and said with a smile, "Miss Skye, there's an even bigger surprise. Mrs. Morgan is having twins this time."
Nola was practically petrified. She frowned, her smile frozen on her face, and she squeezed my hand so hard it hurt.
"Blair, you're amazing."
I pried her hand off. "No big deal, just a small thing."
"Levi, this is such great news. You have to have several drinks tonight."
John raised his teacup and toasted him.
"Okay."
"When life is good, you should enjoy it. Let's drink until we're drunk tonight."
I picked up my cup and took a sip.
"Maybe drink a little less. If you drink too much, who's going to take care of Nola?"
Levi's lips curved up. "If we drink too much, just stay over. Indigo will take care of you."
"It's rare for your husband to be so easygoing. I'll definitely join in." Nola wasn't really toasting his easygoing nature—she clearly just wanted to drink.
The four of us chatted about recent events and had a great time.
I think one of life's great pleasures is having a few friends to hang out with.
