Chapter 118: Uninvited Guests
Chapter 118: Uninvited Guests
“Have you told Chad about this?” Nelly’s round eyes focused on Stacy.
Stacy shook her head. “Not yet. He’s stressed enough. I wanted to be sure that I want to do it before telling him.”
“I don’t think he will agree. I’m still against it,” Nelly said with her arms crossed.
Stacy was about to say something else but a knock on the door interrupted her.
Since she was near the door, she got it immediately after the knock sounded. Zalen appeared at the entrance. His expression was grave, sending a chill down her spine.
“Have you seen Chad?” He asked. Stacy's heart skipped a beat. “No..” Before she could finish the sentence, Zalen turned and sprinted away in a hurry.
“What did he say?” Nelly craned her neck from the bed, trying to see who was behind the door. Stacy didn’t answer her. She didn’t even move. Her brows almost knitted together as she froze in her spot. “Is something wrong?” Nelly queried again.
“I’m not sure,” Stacy mumbled, “I’ll go check.” She didn’t even turn back as she sprinted in the direction Zalen went.
She caught up with him soon. He was in the common area. A group of men were around him. Carefully, Stacy inched closer to get an idea of what was happening. “What do you mean your leader can’t see us right now?” One of the men said, his tone betraying annoyance. Another man stood out and pointed at Zalen. “You better ask Chad to come out right now. We won’t hesitate tearing down this place!”
Zalen’s face got a shade darker. He took a step forward, causing the smaller man to retreat a step. “I told you he’s not free right now. You can come back another day,” he stared the men down, “why do you insist on seeing him now? If it’s urgent, you can tell me and I can relay the message. Otherwise, I have the right to suspect that you’re a spy.” His eyes scanned through the men in a way that would make a person shiver. “Easy, man.. we are just,” one of them tried to calm him down but his friend stopped him. The man took a brave step forward. “So what? Are you threatening us? Is the leader so busy spending time with the girl right now that he doesn’t even have the time to listen to our reports?”
Stacy felt her eye twitch. Her legs moved by themselves, bringing her to the lights. “Are you talking about me?” She said as she approached Zalen, standing beside him while facing those men with a level stare. She had never seen them in the clubhouse before. Neither were they in Hank’s room the other day. If they weren’t Reaper men or Hank’s men, who in the world were they? There’s another wave of uneasiness in her heart. Her gut was telling her that something’s fishy.
One of the men sneered. “Your leader is really the man, Zalen,” he scoffed while giving her a disgusted look, “sending a girl out while he hides in there?”
Stacy folded her arms. “Zalen’s already said that Chad’s not seeing you today. Do you not understand human language?” Her words insulted his ego. He rushed forward with the intent to hit her. Zalen jerked into action but Stacy was faster to catch his wrist mid-air. Immediately, his scream pierced the air, turning every head in the radius of 500 feet. Stacy’s expression remained impassive. It didn’t look like she even used an ounce of energy but the man’s face contorted in pain.
His friends stepped forward reflectively. “Let go of him!” “What do you think you are doing?” “Is this how you treat your guests?” Their comments only made her roll her eyes internally. They could only run their mouths as they were too afraid to move any closer. She lifted her eyes in their direction, making one of them shrink back a little. “Guests?” She sneered, “since when the Reapers started accepting such low quality guests? No appointment, no patience, and no manners.”
That was like three arrows striking them simultaneously, bruising their ego in a way they haven’t been wronged in a decade. One of them narrowed their eyes. “Don’t think we will take it easy on you because you are a girl!”
“Oh?” She raised one brow at him. “You don’t have to.”
She pushed the man in front of her towards his friends. He lost his balance from the impact and fell on his friends. “Zalen,” she winked at him, gesturing for him to take them. Zalen raised a brow at her. “I’m listening to your command now?”
She walked back to the wall behind them and leaned against it with her hands in her pocket. “You do it cause I’m a polite and sophisticated lady.” Zalen didn’t bother to hide his eye-roll. He stood out and got into his fighting stance.
“Now,” one of the men suddenly said, “run.” They turned and bolted out through the door. Zalen’s brows furrowed in annoyance. He jogged out, shouting, “close the gates. Catch them!” Men immediately moved into action. It was almost impossible to escape. A fight broke out immediately.
Stacy watched carefully as the scene in front of her unfolded. Something wasn’t right, her gut feeling reminded her again. Her eyes lingered on the men. They were either stupid or sent as a distraction. If they were a distraction, what were they trying to distract them from? And where was Chad at this moment?
Questions after questions surfaced. Her heart skipped a beat. Why was Zalen looking for Chad so urgently earlier? Was it only because there were visitors? Or because he thought something happened to him?
Without a second of delay, she turned and bolted up the stairs. Zalen was preoccupied with the trouble and she had to see for herself that Chad was fine before she could relax. It’s either Chad, Cecilia, or.. Nelly?
Her mind spun so quickly as her legs brought her to God-knows-where.
