Chapter 28: Kenn’s Reaction

My eyes widened the moment I saw the variety of dishes laid out on the table. The spread was incredibly complete, ranging from traditional Indonesian food to European cuisine.

I scanned the menu one by one. There was oxtail soup, satay, various curry dishes, grilled gourami, assorted seafood, a jerami platter filled with roasted chicken and duck, pizza, tortilla de patatas from Spain made of potatoes and eggs, quail served with spicy sambal, tropical fruit salad, and ice cream in many different flavors.

Wow, Dara’s feast was truly extraordinary. I could not hide my amazement.

Had she lost her mind? Just for Kenn, she ordered this much food?

My mouth hung open. I swear, I almost started drooling just looking at the beautifully arranged dishes on the plates.

Moving quickly, I scooped various foods onto my plate. A little of everything, as long as I could taste it all. It was not every day I got to eat at an elite restaurant like this. Especially for free.

However, right in the middle of my enjoyment, Dara’s voice began to disrupt my concentration. My meal was forced to pause when I noticed her increasingly reckless behavior.

“Aaak.” Dara gave a signal for Kenn to open his mouth.

Unfortunately, the guy who deserved to be called an angel of death merely stared at her flatly, without any expression, then looked away.

“Come on, Kenn. Open your mouth,” Dara pleaded again, offering a spoonful of rice in a deliberately sweet tone.

“I can eat by myself,” Kenn replied coldly without turning to her.

“Then I will get you a drink?”

“No need.”

Good grief. That guy was unbelievably annoying. His arrogance was on another level.

“Oh, by the way, Kenn, have you tried the pizza here? It tastes exactly like pizza in Italy. It is really good,” Dara said, still refusing to give up.

Kenn did not respond at all. He kept chewing his food as if Dara did not exist.

“I will get you some tissues. Do you like this one? Or that one? Or this? Which one, Kenn? Eat slowly, okay. Do you like ice cream? Want me to get some for you?”

Kenn finally paused for a moment. He looked at Dara sharply, his brows furrowed in scrutiny. Realizing that, Dara quickly put on her best smile and even licked her lips in a flirtatious manner.

“Are you not tired of talking nonstop since earlier?” Kenn asked flatly.

Dara’s mouth fell completely open. Tomi and I immediately burst out laughing.

Just imagine it. After asking and offering help nonstop, the response Dara received was nothing but Kenn’s cold remark. Dara was completely at a loss. Her face looked ridiculous, and her defense crumbled. She could only smile awkwardly, clearly flustered.

“Y-yeah,” she murmured while scratching the back of her neck.

“Enough, let us just eat now. While it is still warm,” Tomi said, trying to ease the atmosphere.

I took some of Dara’s favorite foods and placed them on her plate. She accepted them with a sulky face and a pout.

“Why did you ask me to come here?” Kenn asked bluntly.

“Be patient. Just enjoy the food. Since there is a pretty girl being kind enough to treat all of us,” Tomi replied casually.

Being called pretty, Dara immediately smiled to herself while twirling a strand of her hair.

Kenn glanced at Dara from the corner of his eye. “There is no other motive, right?”

For a brief moment, Dara looked nervous. She grabbed her glass and drained the water in one gulp.

“There is not. You are too suspicious, Kenn. Relax a little,” Tomi said.

“I am done. If there is nothing important, I am leaving,” Kenn said irritably.

He grabbed a tissue, wiped his lips roughly, then stood up from his chair. However, Tomi quickly stopped him.

“Okay, now I will tell you the surprise I promised,” Tomi finally said.

Kenn abandoned his intention to leave. He sat back down, though he clicked his tongue in irritation. While Tomi and Dara exchanged glances, I hurried to finish my food.

“Actually, I….” Tomi said, leaving his sentence hanging.

His hand began to move under the table, toward the button we had prepared.

This was bad.

I immediately looked for my favorite chocolate ice cream before Tomi pressed the button. I glanced left and right. A smile spread across my face when I spotted the ice cream not far from my reach. I stood up to grab it, but suddenly….

Click.

The lights went out.

One second. Two seconds.

Silence.

One minute.

Stillness.

Darkness.

I sat back down and waited.

Three minutes.

Thud.

The sound seemed to come from under the table.

Three minutes and twenty five seconds.

A noisy commotion could be heard.

Five minutes.

Thud.

“Ouch … who is this?” Dara’s voice was heard, sounding strange.

“Eemm … eemmm….”

My heart felt as if it stopped. Dara’s voice sounded increasingly unnatural.

Ten minutes passed. Not long after that, the lights came back on.

I froze.

Dara was sprawled on top of a tall man. What stunned me was the fact that Dara was kissing him passionately, her eyes closed as if she were enjoying the moment.

I saw Kenn standing not far from Dara, watching her with a flat expression, his arms crossed, radiating a cold arrogance.

Wait. If that was Kenn, then who was the guy Dara was kissing?

My body tensed. I turned to look at Tomi. His expression was just as shocked as mine.

You are doomed, Dara. You kissed the wrong person.

“Ahem.”

Kenn’s throat clearing stopped Dara’s actions.

Slowly, Dara opened her eyes. Her face instantly turned pale. She looked at Kenn, then lowered her gaze again to the man beneath her.

“Aaaaaah … nooo!” Dara screamed hysterically while wiping her lips repeatedly.

Without looking back, she ran out of the room.

I stared in disbelief when I realized who the man was.

He was not Kenn. Not even close to what I had imagined.

The man was an adult in his forties, with a thin mustache. He was one of Tomi’s family employees, already had two children, and was usually called Uncle Agus by all of us.

The problem was, since when had he been in this room?

My mouth and eyes widened. So Dara had just kissed….

Tomi burst into uncontrollable laughter. I quickly followed, laughing just as hard.

Could Dara really not tell the difference between Kenn and someone else?

A few minutes later, Tomi approached Uncle Agus, who was standing with his head lowered, repeatedly apologizing.

“Uncle, come with me now,” Tomi ordered firmly, then walked away.

I was still laughing as I imagined Dara’s expression earlier.

“Had enough laughing?”

My laughter stopped the moment I heard Kenn’s voice.

“What is it?” I snapped, putting on an annoyed expression.

“The restaurant is closed. If you want to stay here alone, that is up to you,” Kenn said as he walked away.

I was doomed.

I had come here with Dara. So how was I supposed to get home?

I had even left my wallet behind.

Stupid. Stupid.
