Chapter 9

Chapter 9
"I'll say it again. You have to use emotion behind every effort."

I held my hands behind my back as I watched the shirtless Prince huff in annoyance. The sweat glistened against his skin in the setting sun told me that we had been out here almost all day.

"Emotion? It’s a damn spell your not pouring your heart out. I just need to know how to control the elements.” He grumbled, his face showed clear agitation but I couldn’t help the amusement I was getting out of this.

“You don’t control the elements. You are the vessel that they pass through, you are controlled by them.”

I pulled my hand up infront of me aimed towards the dummies he had placed up to practice on.

With everything in me, I focused my mind on them and pulled at the glistening red strand dangling in my brain.

My entire body flooded with warmth and a bolt of fire shot from the palm of my hand.

“You make it look simple.” He grabbed a bottle of water and took a few gulps, staring at me like I had just tore his pride to pieces.

“That’s because it is simple.”

A clicking noise sounded from behind me and I caught Prince Rhyland roll his eyes and shake his head.

“Oh Rhy dear!! You didn’t meet me at the door like usual, are you feeling -,”

Her voice went silent and an ugly sneer appeared on her face as she looked at me.

“Who is she?”

“She’s-,”

“Doesn’t matter, anyway, we are having tea with your mother and she requested that I come fetch you.” Her long curly black hair slid over her shoulder like silk and her skin was a deep mocha color.

She’d be the perfect human being if her attitude was better.

“Fetch him? What are you, a dog?” I scrunched my face up and her eyes widened at my words.

The sound of a snicker escaped Prince Rhyland’s lips.

“No, I’m a Princess actually and I will be treated as such! Rhy are you going to allow this... this.. peasant to speak to me in such manner?!”

My eyes narrowed into slits as the realization dawned on me. This must be Princess Jasmine, the woman that had gotten Eladia’s mother killed.

“She is under our roof, eating the same food as us, drinking the same drinks, it’s safe to say that she’s our equal. She can speak to you whichever way she pleases to do so, I don’t control her.” I couldn’t stop the small hint of a smile that had made its way onto my face.

He made his way over towards the bench and grabbed his gray T shirt, slipping it on.

“Same time tomorrow?” His entrancing eyes caught mine and I nodded.

The Princess was still stuck in headlights at Prince Rhyland’s words, but when he passed her she turned on her heels and trailed behind him like a lost puppy.

I shook my head.

Girls like her were empty minded twits that would get no where in life without a rich man. The thought slightly saddened me but quickly disappeared, she did it to herself. Following the royal rules like a puppet on strings.

I decided it was best to drop those thoughts from my mind and continue to train alone. After a quick sip of water I went straight back to the dummies sitting up.

I pushed deep into my mind and pulled on the deep green string. Leaves and vines erupted from the dirt itself and shot towards the dummy full force, as it met the target the vines constricted the dummy completely.

“If that were a real person, their airway and movement would be completely shut down. Very nice tactic.”

I spun around and met by a man with dark chocolate colored eyes. I couldn’t put my finger on it but something about them seemed familiar..

His dirty blonde hair was perfectly styled and his features blended nicely together contrasting from light to dark, his skin was a tinge tan and he had the perfect golden color.

“I’ve heard so much about you, I’m Elijah.” His baritone voice pushed through the air and I felt my brows furrow.

“Such as?”

“You’re the only Blue Blood alive besides your brother, you were living amongst the commoners as one of them, and you won a Royal Array.”

I narrowed my eyes at him and his bright smile faultered.

“I didn’t win and I was living amongst them because I am a commoner.” I muttered before turning back to the dummies, not wanting to continue the conversation any longer.

“Okay that sounded better in my head, redo?”

I stalled instantly and slowly turned towards him, his figure towered over me easily but he didn’t seem like much of a threat.

But I could be wrong.

“I’m Elijah Trebos. It’s nice to finally put a face to the legend I’ve been hearing so much about.”

He sent me a friendly smile and I just looked towards him with a blank expression.

“That wasn’t any better was it?”

I shook my head.

He chuckled and ran his fingers through his curly hair.

“Elijah dear, what are-,” A soft voice stopped behind him and a woman with the same features as Elijah came into view.

“I was taking a walk through the training grounds and came across-,”

“Raven?” The woman took a few more slow steps towards me and I felt my heart rate increase. Her hand lifted towards my face and I pulled back on instinct.

“Raven Occisor.. daughter of Catherine and Tobias Occisor?”

I nodded slowly, not knowing how the hell she knew who my parents were. My feet were still stepping backwards to get away from her.

“How are they? Might I ask.”

“They’re dead.” I spoke up and her eyes widened before shooting down towards the ground.

“How?”

I looked towards Elijah before my eyes fell on the woman again.

“Why do you care?” I snapped, narrowing my gaze. She placed a hand over her chest and took a deep breath before answering.

“You look so much like your mother I almost had to double take. I wouldn’t expect you to recognize me because well, you were but a mere child the last time I saw you.”

“Saw me? What the fuck are you talking about!?” I spat as my voice raised in anger.

“Raven.. I knew your mother.” Her gentle eyes told me she was telling the truth but I shook my head, the blur of tears threatening to spill over the seal of my eyes.

This was some sick joke.

“Prove it.” I seethed and she nodded.

Her hand reached for the necklace around her neck and my heart instantly sank to the floor.

An emerald stone sat in the middle of a broadened rose. I would know that necklace anywhere, my mother never took it off.
