Chapter 490 Edward & Moira 35

Chapter 490 Edward & Moira 35

Edward released his grip, the strong smell of alcohol and smoke lingering around him. "Sorry, I mistook you for someone else. Your back looks very similar to someone I know."

Moira didn't say anything and turned to leave.

She quickly walked back to the private room, sat on the sofa, and took a few sips of juice to calm her frantic heart.

She hadn't expected to run into him here.

Fortunately, she didn't reveal anything; otherwise, she wouldn't know how to handle it.

She put down the glass and covered her face with her hands. For a moment there, she really wanted to cry.

The laughter and chatter in the private room made her feel particularly lonely, as if she were an outsider watching a group of people revel, none of it related to her.

She called a ride service for her colleagues and saw them off one by one before walking along the street with her bag.

It was already midnight, but the streets of Los Angeles were still bustling with people.

She watched couples embracing each other and smiled slightly.

Seeing a coffee shop, she walked in and ordered a cup. "An espresso, please."

Soon, the barista handed her the coffee and wished her a Happy New Year.

She returned the greeting.

Moira inserted a straw and continued walking while sipping her coffee.

The weather was cold, and snowflakes were falling, but the warm coffee added a touch of warmth to the New Year's night.

She walked back home and sat wearily on the sofa.

After a long while, she got up to take a shower.

In front of the mirror, she carefully removed the human skin mask, revealing Moira's face.

She was only Moira at night.

She turned on the shower, and warm water cascaded down. Moira applied shampoo to her hair and rinsed it off.

Perhaps the foam irritated her eyes, making them sting, and tears began to flow.

She squatted on the ground, hugging her knees.

Seeing Edward again, she felt only guilt and remorse. She truly felt unworthy of him.

Forty minutes later, Moira emerged in her pajamas.

She went to the kitchen cabinet, took out a bottle of red wine and a wine glass, and drank herself into a stupor.

The next day, she woke up to find she had slept on the sofa all night, feeling weak and sneezing.

Sensing something was wrong, she took her temperature: 101.8°F.

She boiled some hot water, drank a lot, and lay down to sweat it out.

Despite sweating profusely, her fever showed no signs of abating.

Feeling extremely uncomfortable, she decided to go to the hospital.

After washing up in the bathroom, she put on the human skin mask, changed clothes, grabbed her bag, and took a cab to the hospital.

The doctor said her condition was due to a cold and that an IV drip would provide quick relief.

Moira, already feeling miserable spending New Year's alone and now sick, opted for the IV drip.

The cold liquid flowed through her veins, making Moira feel alive again.

Feeling a bit drowsy, she pulled her scarf up to cover all but her eyes and fell asleep.

In a daze, she felt someone sit in the chair next to her and heard a sigh.

But she couldn't open her eyes.

When the IV bag was empty, the nurse woke her up to remove the needle.

Moira looked around the infusion room and saw she was alone, thinking the earlier presence was just a hallucination.

She took a cab home and called her parents.

Freya noticed her hoarse voice and asked, "Moira, are you sick?"

Not wanting to worry her, Moira explained that she had drunk too much at a colleague's gathering the previous night, causing her voice to become hoarse.

Freya started crying, "Moira, I know why you stayed in Los Angeles. It's because of Edward, right? Since you two can't be together, why stay there? How long do you plan to wait for him? Do you want to see him get a girlfriend, get married, and have kids? Isn't that just hurting yourself? Listen to me, forget about him and come back."

Moira was already in tears. "Mom, can you give me some more time? I betrayed and hurt him; I can't let go of that relationship."

Freya knew her daughter's temperament—soft on the outside but stubborn inside.

"Moira, life is long. You might meet someone else in the future, fall in love, get married, and have a family."

"Mom, do you think I can love someone else after loving Edward?"

Freya fell silent. Edward was indeed exceptional. She sighed, "Moira, if you ever get tired, come back. Our home is always open for you."

After hanging up, Moira broke down in tears.

Freya had said a lot, but Moira couldn't let go of her feelings for Edward.

After crying for a long time, she washed her face and called Alice, but couldn't get through.

Since Alice had settled her in, she had left, and Moira couldn't reach her.

Feeling inexplicably anxious, she also couldn't reach her brother Calvin.

She put down her phone and went to the kitchen to make some pasta.

Living alone was always simple; she just made a little food for herself.

Unlike when she cooked for Edward, every meal had to be sumptuous.

After eating, she curled up on the sofa to watch a movie.

But her favorite pastime was reading news about Edward. Seeing his handsome face in photos made her heart melt.

Day after day, the holiday soon ended.

Life and work returned to normal.

Moira was called to the CEO's office. Raymond, sipping coffee, said, "We have a project to collaborate with the York Group. Prepare for a dinner meeting with Mr. York tonight."

Moira froze. "You mean, Mr. York?"

Raymond noticed her stunned expression. "What? Interested? But Mr. York is a very wealthy single man. I heard he used to like his assistant, but she disappeared. Her name was Moira Sanders, same last name as yours."

Moira snapped out of it, forcing a smile. "Got it, I'll prepare now."

Back at her desk, she called Vance. "Hello, Mr. Gomez, this is Edwardina Sanders, assistant to the CEO of Synergy Innovations Group. Mr. Reeves would like to know Mr. York's dining preferences to choose a suitable restaurant for tonight."

Vance listed Edward's preferences and suggested the Royal Orchid Restaurant.

Moira noted everything down and made the reservation.

She exhaled deeply, feeling uncomfortable with the pretense.

The thought of facing Edward tonight made her anxious.

But what must come will come.

In the evening, Raymond took Moira to the Royal Orchid Restaurant.

In the reserved private room, Moira was restless.

The door opened, and Vance entered first, followed by Edward.

Edward saw her and naturally sat beside her. "I feel like I've seen you somewhere before."
