Chapter 12
Wes's POV
"¡imbécil! No puedo creer que me hayas hecho esto."
"cómo se supone que debo estar preparado para reunite con tus padres con tan poco tiempo de aviso!" Aurora yells.
"me haces querer estrangularte."
I honestly never knew my girlfriend could speak Spanish. She's been ranting ever since I got here while rummaging through her closet.
"Baby... I know you're mad.. But..."
"Silencio!" She yells at me, making a cut motion with her hand and I shut my mouth.
"What am I even going to wear? I have nothing!"
She plops down on her bed and stares at me.
"This is your fault."
"I know." I pout and she rolls her eyes.
"Don't pout at me, you brought this upon yourself."
"C'mon, get your fat butt off the bed. We have thirty more minutes."
"I said to shut up." She snaps again and this time I stay quiet.
I wish I could escape to Thomas's room while she ranted but I tried that already.
It wasn't exactly fun.
"He's here!" My sister yells from the veranda and I roll my eyes.
Parking the car, I walk to Aurora's side to open her door.
She steps out in her pretty black dress and walks to the back seat to get Thomas out.
"Let's go little one. Time to visit grandma."
He comfortably climbs into her arms and as usual, he's quiet as soon as we enter the house. He doesn't like it here very much. Everyone stares at Aurora and I realized I forgot to tell them she sat was coming.
"Who's that?" My nineteen-year-old sister Jenny asks and I pull Aurora to my side.
"Mom, Dad, this is my girlfriend. Aurora."
"Um... Hello. It's very delightful to meet all of you." She smiles politely and Thomas seems star-struck as he stares at her and I smile softly at them.
"I don't like her." My mom shrugs while digging into her food and Aurora takes a step as if she had been physically hit.
"Tell me, what do you want from my brother? Money? A fast life? Or maybe... You're just a late-night booty call that-"
"All right that's enough. This is why I don't visit or call or have any type of interaction with you people." I tell them firmly and Aurora just kept her gaze on the tiled floor.
I grabbed her arm and pulled her out of the wretched house. I don't even know why I agreed to visit.
"Well that was a short introduction," Aurora speaks up while putting Thomas into the car seat.
"I'm so sorry," I tell her, I honestly wanted to bang my head against the car.
"It's fine. I'm used to it remember?" She states while getting in and I clench my jaw.
"Well, you shouldn't be," I reply while reversing.
She doesn't reply, only stares out the window and I sigh.
"What do you wanna do its actually pretty early?" I offer a small smile but she never looks at me.
"I'm actually pretty tired." She clears her throat. "Thomas looks tired too."
I look into the overhead mirror to find Thomas fast asleep and I sigh.
"Aurora, don't bother with what the say, it's all they do, bring people down."
"I'm fine Wes." She says and I know she isn't.
I get her home and she turns to lay a kiss on Thomas.
"Want me to come up?" I ask her as she gets out.
"No... I.. I think I'm good."
"Aurora.."
"I'll see you tomorrow okay?" She says nodding and she spins on her heal. I watch as she leaves and I bang my hand on the steering wheel.
It's always something with my parents.
Grabbing the box that I barely even touch, I open it and throw out its contents onto the floor in front of me.
I spread the pictures apart eyeing each of them with the same curiosity that I did the first time.
Then I grabbed one of me and her.
My mother.
She was eighteen when she had me but she still had the biggest smile when she sat in the hospital with me.
Tears dropped onto the paper and I didn't even realize I was crying.
"Why would you do this to me..." I whisper at the photo hoping that maybe it would answer me... But it never did.
My phone rang and I wiped my tears running towards it. I pick it up and sure enough its Wes.
Well, who else did you expect?
I really need some friends.
I place the phone back down, turning it to silent and I walk into the kitchen. Opening the fridge it's close to empty to what else to do but grocery shopping... With the money that Wes said was for. "Emergencies."
Well, I'm hungry. That's an emergency right?"
Sliding my key into the keyhole, I step in and close the door. I place the groceries down and nearly jump out of my skin when I find Wes sitting on one of the bar stools.
"You scared me." I breathe and he just stares at me. He lifts something and I realize it's my phone.
"Twelve missed calls and seven messages."
"Oh... I.. I was um.."
"Yes?" He stood and started walking towards me.
"Well you see I was busy... And..."
"Mhm?"
I hit the wall and he continues walking until there was literally no space between us.
"I-I"
"So you were ignoring me."
"I was sleeping." I lie.
"Right." He murmurs eyeing my lips. "You didn't kiss me goodbye today."
His hand slides to my waist and I smile.
"I apologize Mr. Roman."
"Apology not accepted." He says and he walks away.
"Hey! I thought you were going to kiss me." I pout and he chuckles.
"Yea well I thought that too in the car and looks like we were both wrong." He shrugs unpack my groceries.
"Are you gonna cook?" I eye him and he grins.
"Yup."
"Gosh, he's going to burn down my kitchen."
A towel collides with my head and I laugh slightly walking over to the couch to lay down.
A few moments pass and I decide to speak up.
"I... I felt hurt when your family talked about me like that." I confess.
"I know." He says and his footsteps approach.
"But you don't even have to listen to what others say." He kneels in front of me and I stare at him. "You're beautiful and kind. You've been through so much yet it's so fun to be around you. You're great with Thomas and he absolutely adores you. You're everything I ever wanted and don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
I nod slightly as my heart soars and he smiles.
His eyes drop to my lips and its the second time he did that.
"Are you sure you don't want to kiss me?" His eyes snap down to my eyes and he stands and walks back to the kitchen.
"Yup."
I smirk and follow him, sitting on the counter.
"Are you sure?"
"100%" He turns to lean against the fridge and I pull him to me.
"Well, I want a kiss."
"Oh, now you do?" He raises an eyebrow and I roll my eyes at him amused.
"Just kiss me handsome."
