Chapter 80: Fated to the cursed Alpha
Kane
“What is it you have to offer me?” I asked Eric curiously.
He reached into his inside pocket, pulling out an envelope, placing it on the desk. “Nobody knows about this, it took me a long time to get all this information. Victor would have my head instantly if he knew about this. But, this contains your family tree, your real family tree. My father left hints about your bloodline. Nobody was ever supposed to find this out.”
I picked up the envelope, taking out the pieces of paper inside, spacing them out in front of me so I could see it all. Reading through it all I could see were different names popping out at me, “I don't understand, I've never heard of half of these people”, I said confused as I scrolled down each page. Ryder got up and stood behind me to get a clearer view also.
Eric stood and leaned over the desk, “This sheet is your mother's side, It is very much normal. Since 1754, the wolf bloodline has been fused with witches. Hence, the power that is held in your family. However, it is this one that is most intriguing.”
Eric now walked around the desk to explain better. “Here is you”. He pointed at my name at the bottom of the list. That part I could have worked out by myself.
“Your father, grandfather, great grandfather” He continued to move his finger further and further up the list of people.
“I know these, obviously, but the rest. They are names I've never heard of before; Edward Corban, Lance Corban. Who are these?”
“You see the symbol next to the name?” Eric pointed to a small square by each name. It looked like a strangely shaped crown.
I nodded, letting him know I had done, “These were all crowned Royalty. The Corban bloodline ran from the original werewolf clan, It was Corban's who originally held the thrown for thousands of years.”
I looked up at Ryder, who looked just as shocked as I was. “So you are saying Kane's like Royalty?” Ryder asked.
“That's exactly what I'm saying!” Eric said excitedly.
“Oh well, in that case, Your Royal Highness,” he joked as he curtseyed like a woman.
“Dick” I mumbled to myself, trying not to laugh at him.
“I'm sorry Eric, but all this seems too much to take in, I can't be some royal, whatever, the person you think I am”. I shook my head pushing the papers away from me.
Eric walked back to his seat, I could tell he was slightly disappointed at my answer. “Tell me one thing, do you not ever wonder about your wolf?” he asked me.
My wolf? “What do you mean, my wolf?”
“The size, the red eyes, the inability to be able to control it at times”. He stared blankly at me.
“It was the curse,” I shrugged.
“That was a lie, remember!” He threw back at me. I studied him for a second, his heart was steady. Either he was telling the truth or he believed his own lies.
“As the family tree grows and babies are born, every now and again the dominant gene will show. Making you bigger, stronger, more powerful than others”
“I thought they were classed as originals?” Ryder asked.
Eric nodded, “Yes, the Royal line were all Originals, as the genes never showed in your father or grandfather, As time passed they were forgotten about. My great grandfather waged war on yours, seeing him as weak. It wasn't exactly a fair battle, but it was then we gained the title .”
“Until my family took it back?” I asked.
“Yes, I think the deed was hidden as your family was seen as easy targets still, for two generations, the dominant gene was dormant. Until you were born, nobody knew you carried the gene until your wolf became active.”
“He's telling the truth!” Rose shouted as she burst into the room.
“What?” I asked, confused by her sudden appearance.
“Sorry, we were listening,” Blair said as she entered the room, closing the door behind her.
“The rooms soundproof?” I said like I was missing something.
“Duh, Rose had to open a sound portal, we could hear you from the kitchen” Blair smiled.
I looked at Rose sternly, she straight away raised her hands, “She made me do it!”
“Why doesn't that surprise me! I hummed, rolling my eyes at them. “So you to think all this is true?” I asked Rose.
“I do. There were parts in the Journals that just didn't make sense like bits were missing, none of it made any sense to me until Eric explained a few things. I had to bring these two in particular” She placed the journals on the table. She mumbled to herself as she fingered through the pages.
“Here,” she shouted excitedly. “Your mother wrote about your father coming and taking you each morning. She never knew where he took you. But, each time you came back, your scent changed, your mouth was red. He had been feeding you blood.”
“Blood?” I asked her, confused.
“Hold that thought!” She spoke quietly as she opened the second journal “Here it is. This was written by your father's scribe” She pushed the book in front of me and pointed to a paragraph.
I am unsure if the blood has been accepted by his body. Maybe this will be the chance at our official birthright. Nothing has changed so far and it has been a total of 8 weeks. I fear the dominant gene has expired.
Maybe the child is not worthy
Maybe I am not worthy
Are we all just not worthy of our birthright!
Our heads too heavy with our own sins to hold the crown
Fear and suffering have replaced the goodness. None of us are worthy. I will make sure that penance is served.
Death will come to us all.
“These are the ramblings of a mad man, he didn't know what he was saying let alone writing,” I said in a saddened voice, could this of been all that our father wanted. I felt Eric's pain. Having a father that wanted something more than his own family.
“Kane” Em whispered from beside me, she leaned into me cuddling my arm. “I think we have to believe what is being said, even if it's only for now. If you had of come to me and explained my life I would have laughed in your face, telling you it was impossible.”
“This might help persuade you,” Eric said, leaning over the desk once more, he pulled out a smaller piece of paper that was still tucked away inside the envelope. “My father ran some tests on you while he was here visiting your father, this is the complete DNA works of you and your wolf” he handed me the piece of paper. “A normal wolf will share fifty percent of their DNA with their wolf, they are equals, half and half. A beta usually is around sixty to seventy depending on their wolf. An Alpha shares around eight maybe eighty-five percent, Their wolves are dominant. Powerful. This is your count” He pointed at the number on the bottom of the sheet.
“99.4%” I spoke out loud in astonishment.
“I don't know of any other wolf with a count that high, Your wolf is, without doubt, an original Royal” Eric said.
I inhaled deeply, I wasn't really sure of what I wanted to believe. But for her, and the sake of the rest of my family I will take a shot. “Ok, you've got my attention,” I said to everyone.
“Thankyou,” Rose and Eric said. “I think your father was trying to bring back the dominant gene in you by feeding you the blood. Little did he know it can't be brought on by that. You either have it or you don't. It's quite simple really” Eric explained.
“How do you even know all of this?” Ryder asked in amazement.
“I don't get out too much, I find history and biology fascinating” He smiled.
“I had men search your pack, we didn't find anything about this,” I asked him curiously.
“No, after we were attacked, I woke up in Lilly's, The woman that found me that I was telling you about. I asked her sons to fetch them for me before they all fell into the wrong hands. I also asked them to put a letter in my drawer from my safe. I presume you didn't find that either”
“Yes, we did in fact. It told me enough to know to lock him up and remove the ring”
“The ring holds power, it belonged to someone from many years ago who put power inside of it. As long as it's not worn it won't harm anyone. Victor is useless without it”
“It's safe. He won't get to it. So what's the next step?” I asked him.
“Find the deed take your rightful place!” Eric smiled.
“What do you get out of this? You must want more, giving us this” Ryder gestured his hand out across the desk.
“In an ideal world, I want a quiet life. My brother has single-handedly taken everything from me. I want him, dead. He will never change. I couldn't let this war carry on between our families for even longer. to spill over into a new generation. I just want it all to end, I don't want to be brought into problems my brother has caused. I want to be a free man”
“Well, In that case, I don't see a reason to keep Victor alive any longer” I announced as I stood. “I will agree to what you have asked, you may be the one to kill him. Any sign of hesitation, I will do it myself. He is a risk to my family. I want him gone!” I ordered.
