Chapter 79: Fated to the cursed Alpha

Embry

I lay soaking in the euphoria of hot soapy bubbles. Kane was up bright and early this morning. I could tell he was excited about hopefully finding out what sex the baby is today. Not that he made it that obvious by checking his phone every five minutes.

I woke up feeling extra bloated today, even though I had a decent sleep last night I was still kind of tired. I think Adele was right, our little pup is starting to make his presence known. I kept saying 'him'. I don't know the sex. But I was still certain it was going to be a boy. Despite the risks involved, I was happy. All Alpha's go through this, I'm sure I will be just fine.

“Kane, can you pass me a towel please” I shouted. He hadn't left as I could hear his footsteps in the bedroom. I knew what he was doing, he was doing the same thing when I left the room to take my bath, he was pacing the length of the room waiting for his phone to ping.

“Sure, here” He walked in as I stood up, Listening to the water drain away I wiped the excess bubbles from my body. “Mumma's getting a tiny bump!” He said in a high pitched voice, his hand cupping my abdomen.

“I'm just bloated” I answered him, looking down at my nonexistent bump.

He shook his head, then turned me to the side. “Yep, baby bloated.” I couldn't help but laugh. “No I'm being serious, your shape has definitely changed”

“ You think?” I asked, trying to look down at myself.

“How are you feeling now?” he asked me as he wrapped the towel around my body, lifting me out of the tub with ease.

“I'm fine I guess. Ask me again in a couple of months” I said, looking at him wide-eyed. We hadn't spoken about what Adele warned us about but I knew he was worried about it.

“ You're going to be OK, I won't let anything happen to either of you,” he said in a serious tone.

I got dressed in a pair of black tights and a thigh-length blue denim dress. Kane was right. I think I had grown slightly overnight as it was quite snug, unlike a few days ago when I last wore it.

“Joshua's been wanting to see Lydia again. I told Ansel to take him down there”, Kane said as he walked into the closet.

“Yeah, It will help his wolf being around her. Well, it will help them both. I'm surprised he went back to the cabin last night. I thought he was going to stay down there with her” I answered as I done up the laces of my doc martins.

Kane smirked at me. “Since when did you care about Lydia?”

“I don't, but, I don't think we've seen the real her, How she is now is not her. I hope that underneath all that peroxide is a kind person”

“Spoken like a true Luna!” He cupped my face and kissed me before leading me downstairs.

We sat in the kitchen, Blair was already here speaking with Rose. Kane and Ryder stood by the counter talking about the pack. Kala had gone to visit her friend who lived a couple of miles away in the forest while Ansel was in the cells with Joshua.

It was quite a laid back morning so far. We talked, laughed and spoke about my pregnancy. All the stresses of everything left the room, if only for a little while. Kane's phone rang while he was deep in conversation with Ryder. They were trying to keep it hush, keeping their backs to us.

He pulled his phone from his pocket, looking at the screen, he answered “Yeah” I tried to focus back on the two women beside me trying not to be rude, but curiosity got the better of me. “Tell him to come straight to the house!” Kane ordered.

“Eric's alive, he's on his way here!” Kane announced to all of us.

“That's good news, right?” Blair asked.

“As long as he's on our side, yeah” Kane nodded.

We all sat waiting as the sound of tyres screeching made its way down the track towards us. The sound of the brakes locked on as the vehicle slid to a halt. Kane walked straight out to go and meet him.

Kane

I waited for Eric, Ryder looking at me from the corner of his eye. We had just been discussing what was best for everyone. I didn't want to worry Em, with everything going on I knew she has got one hell of a fight coming her way with the pregnancy. I needed to know everything was OK, and we had no more threats towards us before my child was born.

We could solve everything if I just went out there and snapped his neck, ending it all in seconds. I couldn't, there was more to all of this. I just know it, maybe Eric had the answers we wanted.

An old-style jeep came into view as it slid to a stop out the front. I could see there was an urgency in the way he was moving.

“Eric!” I called as I walked out the door.

“Alpha Kane, I-I apologise for my abrupt entrance” He stuttered as he jumped from the vehicle and walked towards me at speed.

“It's fine, I think we are overdue a chat I'm pleased you are here” I took his hand, shaking it.

He bowed “Again, p-please accept my apologies” he stuttered, he seemed scared.

“Relax Eric, It's fine. If I'm being honest, I thought you had passed on. My men have seen the devastation of your pack, I automatically feared the worst also, so I should also apologise”

“ You're not wrong, Alpha, I am extremely lucky to be here.”

“Please come in, the family will be happy to see you in good health”. He followed behind me as I walked back inside the house.

“Alpha Eric, it's good to see you alive” Ryder joked as he stepped forward, shaking his hand. Everyone else took turns greeting him. I introduced him to Em as he hadn't met her before.

He seemed pleased to see everyone, but there was something wrong, something in his eyes. "Did you want to speak in the office, Eric?" He agreed, bowing his head. I eyed Ryder, letting him know to come also. Em also got up and took my hand, walking to the office with me. I would have preferred her to stay behind and rest but I knew she would want to be here. I won't hide anything from her, so she always has a seat in my office by my side.

"I hope you don't mind but my Beta and Luna will be sitting in also" I informed Eric as we entered the office. I motioned to the seat for him to sit. Walking around the desk, I pulled out Em's chair for her before taking my own.

"That is fine, Alpha" he answered, looking around at everyone.

" OK, as I said, I am pleased to see you are well. I don't know how much you know, but we have your brother in our cells. He has made a move intended to harm me or my family more than once."

"That is what I wanted to speak to you about if I may?" Eric sat forward in his seat.

"Of course, the floor is yours" I gestured for him to continue.

"I'm not here to plead for my brother's life, I'm here asking for his death sentence to be carried out. I also relinquish any Alpha right I have over to you, I don't have a lot of time and I think it's finally time you found out the story between our families" I wasn't surprised by his request. If he had done the things that we suspected to his pack, then I understood. But why was he running ou toff time? What did he know?

"There was a time I thought I could have saved my brother from the madness that had taken over him. I'm afraid he got this from our father. I am willing to accept any form of punishment you seem fit for not making this known to you sooner!" He said beads of sweat were beginning to form on his forehead.

"I don't understand why would I punish you for your brother's actions?" I asked him.

"I knew he was planning on doing something, I tried to stop him. What I didn't know was that his plan was already in motion."

"We need to know what you know of this plan. We have questioned him but it's not been easy to get through to him. All we know so far is he was after gaining entry to this house to retrieve some papers. He seems to think there are deeds to the country or something, I honestly have no idea what would make him think I have something like that", I explained.

He nodded as though Victor was telling the truth. "Years ago, our great grandfather ruled this country, he was a very wealthy man", Eric started to explain.

"Yes, I knew your family was of a high stature but had it stripped if I remember rightly," I added.

"There was a mating that went wrong, other things contributed, but that was pretty much the gist of it. My great grandfather turned to drink and eventually killed himself. Leaving the title to my grandfather, he was young at the time. Had no idea what it was to rule a country. He had no interest in doing it and thought a life of drink and sleeping with whores would satisfy him. He used his high-end status to get what he wanted and it always worked for him"

"Yeah that seems to be the in thing with the older generation" I hummed.

"It is true what Victor said to you, Your grandfather won the deed it was in a game of poker. My grandfather had nothing left to bet, he didn't want the crown so gave it up easily. The one thing he didn't realize was without retaining the high position, the money and the women soon fizzled out. So when he hit an all-time low he made friends with a woman who was into dark magic. She had been exiled from her coven because of the dark magic she practised. With her help, my grandfather vowed to bring hell down of your family"

"The curse?" I said as if I already knew what he was going to say.

"The curse was a mask. Your grandfather hid the papers somewhere here. My father was close to learning where from your father but he found out what was really going on. By that time, my father had been poisoning him long enough for him to begin to lose his mind. It is designed to make you despise those you love. He hoped if the males in your family never wanted their mates it would be the end of your family line, which meant..."

"A family cant rule if their bloodline isn't pure!" Embry said finishing his sentence for him.

"Exactly, making them lose everything they once loved in the long run, the same as my grandfather felt. there was also talk that if your father or grandfather ever completely lost their minds they would willingly sign over the papers back to our family without realizing what they were doing"

"Why not just wage war? dishing out the lifetime of torture is a bit strung out?" Ryder asked.

"Holding that deed every pack within the country would devote their loyalty to your family. We would have stood no chance in any kind of war, this way it was sneaky enough to make you think you had done something wrong yourself"

"Before we go further, I want to know, Where do you stand in all of this. You say you had no part in your brother's actions but do you stand by your family?" I asked him sternly.

"I loved my father, but his vendetta against your family overpowered any love he held for his family. I moved to create my own pack away from them. I never wanted any part of any of this. But Victor came to me asking for help. When I declined he just went psychotic, attacked us all. He left me for dead a couple of miles from my packhouse, an old woman found me and nursed me back to health. I still have silver in my system, hence why I am not completely healed." He stood lifting his shirt, he had an array of claw marks and bruising all over his body.

"As far as Victor knows I died that day, I want him to know I'm stronger than he thinks. I want to pledge my loyalty to you, I pose no threat to you or your family."

"How do I know I can trust you, these are the very words Victor said to me asking me to believe him, that didn't turn out too well now did it," I said eyeing him cautiously.

"Besides my loyalty, there is only one other thing I can give you, one thing I know you don't have or are even aware of. It's the one thing that could change your life. In exchange for this, I want to ask you, for one thing, to allow me to be the one that kills Victor"
