Chapter 13: CHAPTER 13
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
~DARKMOON PACK~
Rain’s POV
I turned a strand of my fiery red hair around my finger as I walked beside Valerie, sighing dramatically. "I swear, if they keep treating that girl like this, she won’t last a week."
Valerie, as usual, said nothing at first. She just walked with that dangerous look of hers, her hands tucked into the pockets of her jeans. She always looked like she was on the verge of killing someone , and honestly, I loved that about her.
"It’s not our problem," she finally said, but I caught the amusement in her voice.
I huffed. "I know it’s not our problem, but still! Did you see her back? I thought her skin was going to completely peel off ! It was disgusting. Brutal. Inhumane!" I gasped dramatically. "And Eva? Sitting there like some evil queen, enjoying the show. Ugh!"
Valerie smirked. "You act like this is new.
"It’s not! But it still doesn’t make it okay," I snapped, kicking a rock on the ground. "That girl looked like she was ready to drop dead. If they keep this up, she’s either going to die or turn into some soulless thing. What’s the point of torturing someone that much?"
Valerie shrugged. "Maybe that’s the point."
I groaned loudly. "Valerie, come on! You can't just act like you don’t care. Deep down, I know you do."
She shot me a knowing glance. "Do I?"
"Yes," I insisted, pointing a finger at her.
She snorted. "That’s not how it works."
"Sure, it is," I said with a grin. "Now, let’s go see your mother before I lose my mind thinking about all this cruelty."
We made our way toward the main mansion gate, where the higher-ranked wolves lived, including Alpha Kieran himself. The place was heavily guarded, because apparently, letting omegas and warriors roam freely near the ‘sacred palace’ would cause the world to crumble.
Just kidding!
But that's how it was, they made it too special for commoners like us to go in.
Two guards stood stiffly in front of the large gate, their expressions so stone-cold I was almost impressed. Almost.
Valerie took one step forward. "We’re here to see my mother."
The guards didn’t even blink. "No access," one of them grunted.
Valerie’s face remained the same but I could already feel the irritation beneath her cold face. I, however, was not built for this kind of nonsense.
"What do you mean, 'no access'?" I asked, placing my hands on my hips.
"Exactly what it sounds like," the second guard said, crossing his arms.
I narrowed my eyes. "Listen, Idiot Number One and Idiot Number Two, we are just here to visit Valerie’s mother, who by the way works her butt off in that mansion. So, unless you want to be responsible for a very angry warrior and an even angrier omega, I suggest you step aside."
The first guard raised his eyebrow. "Orders are orders. No one gets in without approval."
I gasped dramatically clutching my chest. "Approval?! Are you telling me that Valerie freaking Benson, one of the best warriors in this damn pack, needs approval to see her own mother?"
Valerie covered her mouth, trying to hide a laugh.
"That’s the rule," the guard said, flatly tired of me already.
I stomped my foot. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me! Let me guess, if Eva just came in here with a pack of wild hyenas, you’d just let her through with a smile, huh?"
The second guard looked at me harshly. "That’s different."
"Oh, of course, it is!" I threw my hands in the air. "The Alpha’s mistress gets special privileges while we, the hardworking, underappreciated, second-class citizens of this pack, get treated like we’re invisible!"
I knew I was pushing it, but honestly, I was having too much fun.
Valerie leaned against the gate, smirking. "I say we just force our way in, Rain. Think we can take them?"
The guards immediately stiffened at Valerie's idea. "Don’t even think about it," one of them growled.
I placed a hand on my chest. "Me? Think about it? No, no, I don’t think, I do."
The first guard clenched his jaw. "Rain, don’t make this harder than it needs to be."
"Oh my Moon Goddess, you know my name! That’s progress! Maybe next time, you’ll actually use your brain and realize how stupid this rule is."
The second guard groaned tiredly. "Why are you like this?"
"Why are you like this?" I shot back.
Valerie finally lost it and burst into laughter. The way she was leaning against the gate like she was watching a comedy show made me feel good
The first guard sighed. "Look, you two need to leave. This isn't a debate."
I pouted dramatically. "Fine. Be that way. But just so you know, I will not forget this day and I'll pay back."
The second guard rolled his eyes. "Sure, whatever."
I huffed and turned to Valerie. "You know, I bet if we just yelled out her name loud enough, she’d hear us and come outside."
Valerie smirked. "I dare you."
I took a deep breath and cupped my hands around my mouth. "TESSAAAAA! YOUR FAVORITE DAUGHTER AND HER ANNOYING FRIEND ARE HERE!"
Both guards jumped. "Are you insane?!" the first one hissed.
Valerie burst into laughter again. "I think she is."
I grinned. "You love it."
The guards were irritated, but before they could respond, a small window opened on the second floor of the mansion, and a woman’s voice called out, "Rain, for the love God, stop screaming!"
I grinned up at Tessa, who had poked her head out. "There she is! My favorite Benson!"
Tessa sighed. "You do realize you’re causing trouble again, don’t you?"
"That’s my job!" I beamed.
Valerie smirked. "We just wanted to see you. These guys are being difficult."
Tessa shot the guards a knowing look. "They’re just following orders."
I crossed my arms. "Orders?. All we wanted was a little chat."
Tessa sighed. "Fine, I’ll come out. Give me a minute."
The guards groaned. I gave them my best “I told you so” smile, and Valerie nudged me playfully. "You really are a menace."
I grinned. "And you love it."
She rolled her eyes but didn’t deny it.
A few minutes later, Tessa appeared at the side entrance, shaking her head at me. "Rain, one day, your mouth is going to get you into real trouble."
I shrugged. "Until then, I’ll keep having fun."
Valerie chuckled. "She made the guards suffer for a good ten minutes."
Tessa sighed but smiled slightly. "Of course, she did. Come on, let’s talk before you get yourself banned from the premises."
I grinned. "Too late for that, Tessa!"
And with that, we walked off, leaving the poor guards glaring at me like they wanted to strangle me.
