Chapter 188 One Hundred & Eighty Eight
Chapter 188 One Hundred & Eighty Eight
Elara stood there, the silence heavy around her, her chest tight as she replayed the way Giovanni had looked straight through her… like she didn’t exist.
Like she meant nothing.
Matteo didn’t move.
Didn’t speak.
He just watched her.
Carefully. Like she was a criminal.
Elara let out a shaky breath, wrapping her arms around herself like she was trying to stay together. “You really think I did this?” she asked quietly.
Matteo stayed silent for a moment, his face unreadable.
“I don’t think anything,” he said finally. “I just follow orders.”
That hurt.
Elara let out a soft, bitter laugh. “Of course you do.”
Her eyes drifted to the ICU doors, her voice breaking slightly. “He’s in there fighting for his life… and you all think I put him there… why would I even do that?”
Matteo didn’t respond.
Didn’t react.
“Can I at least see him?” she asked, softer now.
“No,” Matteo said immediately.
Elara turned back to him, frustration flashing. “I’m his fiancée!”
“And you’re still not going in,” Matteo replied calmly. “Not until the boss says so.”
Her jaw tightened.
For a second, it looked like she might argue.
But then she stopped.
Because she could see it clearly…
He wasn’t going to move.
Not even a little. He was going to keep watching her like a prison guard.
Elara exhaled sharply and turned away, pacing a few steps before finally dropping into a chair, her hands trembling.
She felt it now.
The loneliness.
Adrian was gone.
Giovanni had shut her out.
No one believed her.
Everything… was slipping.
She looked up at the ICU doors, her eyes glassy.
“I didn’t mean for this…” she whispered.
Then suddenly…
She laughed.
Soft at first.
Then louder.
Unstable…. Like a lunatic
Matteo’s eyes narrowed slightly as he watched her.
Elara shook her head, a strange smile forming through her tears.
“You can’t ignore me, Gio…” she muttered under her breath. “Do you even know how long I’ve loved you? ”
Her fingers tightened against her arms.
“All I had to do… was make you mine.”
Her smile twisted slightly.
“You can’t ignore me… not after all I had done ”
Matteo didn’t say a word.
But now…
He wasn’t just watching her.
He was wary… he was sacred.
Elara slowly pushed herself up from the chair, wiping at her face like she was trying to pull herself back together.
Matteo straightened slightly the moment she moved.
“Where are you going?” he asked, voice calm but alert.
Elara didn’t look at him as she fixed her hair, smoothing it down with shaky hands. “Restroom.”
Matteo nodded once.
“I’m coming with you.”
That made her pause.
Then she let out a soft laugh, shaking her head like she found it amusing.
“Suit yourself,” she said lightly, though there was something off in her tone.
She turned and started walking down the hallway, her steps steady now… too steady.
Matteo followed a step behind, his eyes never leaving her.
They walked in silence.
The sound of their footsteps echoed against the hospital walls.
Elara pushed open the restroom door and stepped inside.
Matteo stopped just outside, positioning himself near the entrance, arms crossed, waiting.
Inside, Elara walked to the sink, gripping the edge tightly as she stared at her reflection.
For a moment…
Her expression cracked.
Then slowly…
It changed.
The softness faded.
Something colder settled in her eyes.
She tilted her head slightly, studying herself in the mirror.
“You can’t ignore me… I won’t allow it” she whispered again, almost smiling.
Behind the door, Matteo remained still.
Listening.
Watching.
And waiting.
Because something about this…Didn’t feel right at all.
And he could feel it in his gut.
Inside the restroom, everything went quiet for a second.
Then.. z
“Help! Help… ahhh!”
Elara’s scream tore through the hallway.
Matteo reacted instantly.
“Hey!” he shouted, pushing the door open and rushing in.
“Elara… what..”
He barely got the words out.
She turned sharply.
And in one swift movement… she stabbed him
She drove the knife forward. Straight into his chest.
Matteo’s eyes widened in shock.
A sharp breath left him as his body jerked back, his hand instinctively grabbing at her wrist… but she had already pulled away.
“Sorry… blame Giovanni .. this is all his fault” she whispered, her voice eerily calm.
Then she shoved him hard.
Matteo stumbled, crashing into the sink, blood already spreading through his shirt.
“Elara… !” he tried, his voice strained.
But she was already moving.
She ran.
Fast.
Out of the restroom.
Out into the hallway.
Matteo slid down against the counter, one hand pressed tightly against the wound, breathing unevenly.
“Shit…” he muttered, teeth clenched.
His other hand fumbled for his phone, fingers slipping slightly.
He forced himself to focus.
“Boss…” he breathed, hitting the call.
Blood dripped onto the tiled floor.
His vision blurred slightly… Forcing himself to stay conscious
Because he knew one thing for sure now…
Gabriele was right.
And Elara…
Was far more dangerous than any of them realized… and she was definitely up to something bad.
Elara burst through the hospital doors, the cold night air hitting her face as she ran.
Her chest rose and fell fast, adrenaline pumping through her veins.
In her hand…
Matteo’s car keys.
She didn’t stop.
Didn’t look back.
She reached the parking lot, scanning before spotting the car. Her steps quickened, heels clicking sharply against the ground as she rushed toward it.
Her hands trembled slightly as she unlocked it and got in, slamming the door shut behind her.
For a second…
Silence.
Her reflection stared back at her from the rearview mirror.
Makeup slightly smudged.
Eyes wild.
Breathing uneven.
Then slowly…
A smile crept onto her lips.
“You’re going to ignore me, Gio?” she whispered, almost laughing under her breath.
Her grip tightened on the steering wheel.
“I’m going to make you pay…”
The engine roared to life.
“And you’re going to look at me… and love me.”
Her eyes hardened, something dark settling deep inside them.
The car sped out of the parking lot, tires screeching as she drove off into the night.
Straight toward the mansion.
