Chapter 46 - Shadows and Vengeance

Adrienne seethed, rage burning through her like wildfire. The scent of pine and damp earth in the forest did little to calm the fury surging through her veins. *Sophia*. The name alone made her fists clench, her nails digging into her palms. That weak, pathetic human had taken everything from her. She’d stolen Ethan, her destiny, her rightful place as Luna of the pack. It was supposed to be her beside Ethan, leading the pack, guiding their future. Yet here she was, cast aside for some insignificant girl with no true understanding of their world.

*No more*, she thought bitterly, her eyes narrowing. It was time things returned to the way they were supposed to be. She would rip Sophia out of Ethan’s life and take her place beside him. And if she had to break every rule, manipulate every pawn, she’d do it gladly.

A cruel smile spread across her face as she thought of Luke. Poor, lovesick Luke. So easy to manipulate, to twist with promises and pretty words. He believed she was on his side, that they shared a mutual hatred for Ethan. And in a way, they did—Luke wanted Sophia, and Adrienne wanted Ethan. But he was blinded by his own desires, too consumed by his petty rivalry to see the truth. Luke didn’t realize he was nothing more than a means to an end, a disposable pawn in her game.

Adrienne’s plan began to take shape, the pieces falling into place with satisfying clarity. She would use Luke’s jealousy and his foolish hope that Sophia would one day love him. That was the bait, the sweet lie he needed to hear. But Sophia would never be his; she’d die by Adrienne’s hands, and Luke would be the perfect scapegoat.

In the shadows, Adrienne allowed herself a moment of twisted satisfaction. She had no intention of making Sophia’s death quick or merciful. No, she wanted her to suffer, to know that her precious relationship with Ethan had cost her everything. And when it was done, she’d watch Ethan fall apart, crumbling as he realized his Luna was gone.

Her eyes glinted with malice as her thoughts turned to the rogues in the mountains. The rogues were wild, unpredictable, and perfect for what she needed. They had no loyalty, no allegiance to any pack, but they were hungry for power, for chaos. And with the right promise, they would gladly do her bidding.

The plan grew more intricate in her mind. She would contact the rogue leader, a wolf named Kade who had always harbored a grudge against the pack, especially Ethan. Kade and his pack were ruthless, known for their savage attacks on weaker packs and their love of destruction. They’d be eager to do her dirty work, and she’d stay in the shadows, orchestrating everything from a safe distance. She could almost hear the screams, the sounds of chaos as they tore through, leaving Sophia and the pack’s peace in ruins.

But the real beauty of it, the final stroke of her plan, would be framing Luke for it all. Ethan’s fury would be swift, unyielding. Luke wouldn’t stand a chance against him, and with the rogues’ involvement, no one would question it. Luke’s death would be quick, but it would be thorough, tying up every loose end.

As she paced the forest, her smile widened. It was the perfect plan. She’d get rid of Sophia, claim Ethan for herself, and eliminate Luke in the process, all without ever dirtying her hands directly. She would be free to step in once the dust settled, offering her shoulder to a broken Ethan, comforting him in his time of need, showing him that she was the only one who could truly understand him. With time, he’d come to see that she was his true match, his equal, the one meant to rule by his side.

Adrienne’s heart pounded as she imagined the power, the respect, and the life she’d finally have as Ethan’s Luna. She would make it happen. She had to.

She slipped deeper into the woods, moving with purpose toward the base of the mountain where the rogues were known to linger. Kade would be here somewhere, watching, waiting for his next opportunity. Adrienne had spent months studying his movements, learning his weaknesses and the leverage she could use to make him cooperate.

At the edge of a cliff, she spotted a dark figure perched on a boulder, his silhouette sharp against the moonlit sky. She approached slowly, confidently, knowing Kade respected strength and despised weakness. As she stepped into the moonlight, he turned, his eyes cold and calculating, assessing her with a flicker of curiosity.

“Kade,” she greeted, her voice smooth, dripping with an air of authority.

“Adrienne,” he replied, his tone laced with mild interest. “I didn’t expect to see you here. What brings you to our territory?”

She smirked, crossing her arms. “I have a proposition. One that would benefit us both.”

He raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued but cautious. “Go on.”

Adrienne explained her plan in careful detail, outlining each piece with precision. She spoke of the chaos he could unleash, the power he could gain by crippling Ethan’s pack. She offered him free rein, letting him take whatever he desired in exchange for one simple task—eliminating a girl named Sophia.

Kade listened, his gaze sharpening with each word. When she finished, he gave a low, dark chuckle. “And what do you get out of this, Adrienne?”

She allowed a sly smile to slip onto her face. “I get what I deserve. A place by Ethan’s side, where I belong. Sophia’s out of the way, and you get the freedom to do as you please with the pack.” She tilted her head. “Think of it as a win-win.”

Kade considered her offer, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the rock. After a moment, he nodded. “Very well. But know this, Adrienne—I don’t take orders. You’ll get what you want, but I’ll do it my way.”

“That’s all I ask,” she replied smoothly, masking her contempt with a smile. She didn’t care how he handled Sophia, only that she was gone.

They shook hands, sealing their dark pact, and Adrienne felt a thrill of triumph course through her veins. It was done. The wheels were set in motion.

As she turned to leave, Kade’s voice stopped her. “And when this is over, if Ethan finds out...?”

Adrienne smirked, glancing back over her shoulder. “He won’t. If anyone suspects a thing, it’ll all lead back to Luke. He’s already blinded by jealousy, and when Ethan finds out, he’ll think Luke’s the mastermind.” She shrugged, feigning innocence. “Ethan’s rage will do the rest. Luke will be out of the picture, and no one will ever know.”

Kade’s chuckle echoed through the trees as Adrienne disappeared into the shadows, her heart racing with anticipation. Soon, everything would be hers. Ethan, the power, the position she was destined for. And Sophia—well, Sophia would just be a footnote, a brief inconvenience erased from existence.

Adrienne’s eyes gleamed as she melted into the forest, a dark figure blending with the night. Soon, the world would know just how powerful she truly was, and everything she’d ever wanted would be hers for the taking.
