Chapter 69: Grendel

Gaunt frowned at his father Belphegor as he sat on the edge of the tree. His right arm rested on his knee while depressed.

"What do you need?" asked Belphegor.

It didn't even look at him when he asked this question.

"Grimm and I... What is the real reason you made us?" he asked curiously.

"Nothing. Honestly, I did not expect you to come into my life." He said casually.

Gaunt was a little surprised when he heard the answer from his father.

"What do you mean?!" his voice rose.

Belphegor looked at him. Its face is blank.

"Do you still need to know? That doesn't matter."

Disgusted Gaunt looked at his father.

"What are you saying you don't expect Grimm and me to come into your life?!" he asked naughtily.

Belphegor finally faced him and a frugal and meaningful smile flashed across his lips. It stared at him intently.

"Do you know, I remember your Mother every time I see your face? You look like your Mother. That's why I like you more than your brother Grimm."

Gaunt was stunned by what he heard. He was suddenly sweating. A great revelation he heard.

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I'm saying. You're not deaf."

Gaunt shook his head.

"I thought, you just created Grimm and me?"

Belphegor laughed softly.

"I lied. I did not create you... You are really my children." he confirmed.

Gaunt did not know how he would react. He does not know how he should feel, will he be happy or angry?! Belphegor laughed and shook his head as he stared at him.

"I remember your Mother even more every time I see you like that." its language.

Gaunt clenched his fists tightly and bravely looked at his father.

"What about our Mother? I want to know." he commanded.

Belphegor took a deep breath.

"Really? Do you want me to tell you a story?"

"Yes." he answered directly.

Belphegor cross his legs.

"In that case, why don't you sit down first. You'll hear a long story."

Gaunt came over and sat down in front of his father. Now he is interested in talking about it. Because he has a reason. He wanted to know about their mother. Belphegor was too bad to hide the truth from them. But what he can expect? Their father is a demon. One of the Seven Prince of hell. He looked at his father again. It stared back at him and after a while it started to tell a story.

"It's been a long time since everything happened. A man called me and asked for an unforgivable treasure. I granted his request but I asked for a replacement. And that was the first woman in his lineage. Only the two of us know that agreement. Many years have passed and I have not yet received the reward for the wealth I gave... But no matter how long, I still waited until your Mother was born. Her name is Grendel. She was beautiful and attractive woman. From the time she was born until she grew up, I watched over her and monitored her... I did not let another man approach her. All who tried to woo her, I killed. I waited a long time for her arrival so I could not let others get her. That is not possible. Then came the long-awaited time to get her. That was when she reached the age of twenty-one..."

Gaunt looked at his father's face. His eyes did not escape the seeming twinkle in his eyes when he mentioned the name of their Mother. It smiled sparingly and that smile was different from what he usually sees here. He could not explain that.

"W-What did you do to her?" he asked curiously.

"Of course, I showed up first and introduced myself so she wouldn't be surprised... To this day, I still remember the intense fear she felt when we first met. I could hear her fear and nervousness and I was even more attracted. With each beating of her heart, they were there. I waited for her for a long time. I waited a long time for the payment of her ancestor's agreement with me. That's why I was so excited to charge that night..."

Belphegor recaptures the past. All the details, stamped on his whole being. Especially and he has two living memories from Grendel. Gaunt and Grimm...

Belphegor smiled as he stared at the woman's scared face. Tonight he will show up and introduce himself. And tonight he will also start his billing...

"Who's that?!"

Grendel was puzzled as she looked around her room. It was late at night... She was suddenly taken aback when she heard strange noises. Ever since she celebrated her twenty-first birthday, she has had strange dreams. It said someone was coming to pick her up... All the lights in her room went out and she heard strange crackles and squeaks. She did not know where all that was coming from. She is scared but she tries to be brave.

"Who's that?"

She was stunned when the large window of her room suddenly opened. A very strong wind blew into the room. Suddenly the surroundings cooled down and that cold bit every fibre of her flesh.

"I think it's time to meet and see me..."

She swallowed when she heard a man's voice. She did not know where it was coming from because his voice seemed to be echoing in every corner of her room. She recoiled when she saw a shadow appear from the moonlight. Gradually a man's form formed in the shadow until a tall, white man with long, reddish hair was exposed to her.

"W-Who are you?"

The man did not answer but he smiled sparingly at her. He also stared intently at her face but then looked at her up and down.

"Whew, it's also worth my long wait..." Belphegor said.

He could see the fear and shock on the woman's face. He walked closer to it and the woman backed away. She backed away until she sat on the bed... He looked at her face puzzled and tears welled up in her eyes out of sheer fear.

"W-Who are you?" its language stutters.

He stroked the woman's cheek and it blinked at what he did... He was expecting such a reaction.

"I'm just Belphegor, Grendel... I'm one of the Seven Prince of Hell. Tell me, do you believe in demons? If not, start believing now because you are facing me."

It paled at what he said and terrifiedly stared at his face. It was so comforting for him to look at its very blue eyes. He simply stroked her long, black hair.

"Do you know how long I waited for you to arrive? Even before you were born... I was waiting."

Grendel was devastated by what she heard. If so, it is not imagination that she feels someone is watching over her wherever she goes. Since her childhood it has been so. And all the people who fight or do something bad to her, die. Because of that, she has no friends because her personality seems to be cursed. And now she has proven that people are right.

"W-What do you need from me? W-Why me?" she asked tearfully.

She was terrified. A devil is in front of her. She looked into his red eyes. They seem to be on fire and scary but they also look good... She was stunned when the man wiped her cheek. She could not understand the feeling of its skin. Feels cold and hot?!

"You ask me, why you?" its casual language.

She could not see any emotion on its face. Very blank. She nodded hesitantly at the man. She don't think, she can speak anymore.

"It's simple... Even before you were born, you were set to take by me as payment for your family's wealth. Do you know I am the reason why you do not run out of unforgivable wealth even after a very long time? I gave you the luxurious life you enjoy."

Trembling Grendel was dumbfounded and bowed. She was having trouble breathing. But in the end she was able to encourage herself.

"T-Then, take back all the treasures you gave and leave me alone."

She sighed when the man suddenly grabbed her head and looked at her face hard. Its eyes twinkled as if on fire.

"You have the courage to tell me that thing. Are you ordering me, huh?! Maybe you forgot who you are in front of. I am Belphegor-one of the Seven Prince of Hell!"

There was a loud bang throughout the room, the objects flew and the whole area shook. Grendel wanted to faint but did not want to lose consciousness. There seems to be something preventing that from happening.

"You have no right to command me because you are not the one I am talking to, you are not the one I made an agreement with. You are the only one to pay and you can do nothing but be mine. I've been waiting for you for a long time..."

Trembling Grendel grabbed his hand holding her chin. She tries to remove it but it looks like iron and is immovable in the struggle she is doing. She is crying.

"That’s it, be afraid of me... That's right, Grendel."

He played with her tears in his palms. It rejoices in her fear. But she should just be scared... She was surprised when he pulled her and kissed her, at the same time as he violently threw her lying on the bed. She stared at the ceiling and burst into tears. She could do nothing against it.

"That same night, she became mine. And that was the beginning of everything. I went to her every night to claim. And do you know of all the women who I claimed, she was the only one who makes me crazy? When she became my woman, I ignored the others. I just wanted her and no one else..."

Gaunt blinked after hearing his father's story. He suddenly remembered himself during the times he met Kristine. However, he suddenly clenched his fists tightly. He is different from Belphegor because he loved Kristine. He bravely looked at his father's face.

"Has our Mother been important to you?" he asked.

Belphegor was shaken.

"She was just paying me. That was all she did."

He was expecting that answer and he was even more angry with his father. He felt sorry for their Mother.

"After a while, Grendel seemed to get used to me. She wasn't scared anymore, she didn't cry anymore. Until..."

Grendel stared at Belphegor for a long time.

"What do you have to say? Tell me, it's almost morning. I'm leaving." Belphegor said annoyingly.

"I’m pregnant."

Belphegor rolled his eyes and smiled sparingly.

"Is that so? All right."

It disappeared into the darkness and was left puzzled as the woman wept. It does not know what to do.
