After speaking, I left his office without looking back. The moment I closed the door, I felt a huge sense of relief.
I closed my eyes, and the image of Henry pointing at me in a rage echoed in my mind. It would be a lie to say I felt nothing.
How could one not be heartbroken when the person they had once loved now said the most venomous words to them?
I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes, feeling a bit warm. I took a deep breath, suppressing my emotions. Now, even living was so difficult? What right did I have to think about love?
Ryan consoleed, "Mrs. Phillips, wipe your tears. I believe Mr. Phillips didn't mean it. He was just acting out of spite."
I forced a smile. "Thank you."
The things between Henry and I was not something that could be explained in a few words.
Perhaps both of us were at fault for reaching this point, but now it was meaningless to pursue who was right or wrong.
There were so many misunderstandings between us. Even if the misunderstandings were cleared up, we wouldn't go back to the way we were.
I said, "Take me to sign the contract."
Ryan handed me the prepared contract. I read it carefully. There were a few more requirements than the one I signed online.
After confirming there were no issues, I signed it readily.
Ryan reported, "Mrs. Phillips, I have arranged the assistant you requested. She is an intern, but she is very talented. If you are not satisfied with her, you can replace her later."
I nodded, and Ryan took me to meet my assistant.
She looked clean and well-behaved. When she saw me, she seemed a bit nervous, her hands fidgeting together. "Hi, my name is Elara West."
"Don't be nervous," I said gently to her, "My name is Amelia Martinez. I will be your boss from now on. You can call me Ms. Martinez."
She nodded slightly and called me "Ms. Martinez" in a low voice.
I looked at her and said seriously, "Although you are an intern, as long as you work hard, I won't treat you unfairly. Of course, I won't allow you to make basic mistakes. Do you understand?"
She nodded vigorously. "I understand, Ms. Martinez."
I then turned to Ryan. "Ryan, inform HR that I will be taking Elara with me for a month. After a month, I will bring her back."
I definitely couldn't work in the office. Henry had agreed that I didn't have to be on-site, so naturally, Elara, as my assistant, had to follow me.
Ryan nodded. "Yes, Mrs. Phillips."
After Ryan left, I led Elara to get the materials.
Aria seemed to know I would come back and walked towards me angrily."Amelia, why are you back? You're not welcome here!" She pointed to the door, her face full of hostility.
I smiled lightly and ignored her tantrum, saying to Elara, "Elara, go get the materials from over there for me."
Elara obediently went to get the materials.
Aria became even more furious. "Amelia, don't get too cocky. This is Mr. Phillips' company!"
I raised an eyebrow at her. "So what? Henry has already agreed to let me handle the cooperation with the Sullivan Group. If you're unhappy, you can go argue with him."
Aria was choked by my words, her face turning pale and then red.
After a few seconds, Aria finally snapped, "I haven't lost yet. As long as I'm in the Phillips Group, you can't replace me. You're just temporarily taking over this project. Once you submit the design draft, you'll still be a nobody."
I didn't know where Aria's hostility towards me came from. Was it just because I was Henry's wife?
But even without me, there were so many other women outside competing with her.
Was she so sure that after Henry and I divorced, he would definitely marry her?
She was just flattering Henry, carefully making him happy, and getting what she wanted from him.
Facing my silence, Aria got even angrier. "Amelia, what do you mean by not speaking? Don't look at me with that pitying gaze."
