Chapter 13: Gift Of A Friend-2
Gagging, Jade replied, "Probably like being mauled by a 6ft 5in bear? Why don't you go find out?"
"I wish! He probably has a massive King Kong ding dong too!" I said with a snicker, "But unfortunately, he is completely smitten by you, I wouldn't stand a chance!" I countered, my eyes twinkling with mischief.
"Too bad Dom isn't smitten," Jade grumbled as she took another bite from her pizza.
Leaning into her, I said, "Maybe he might be if he thought that you're no longer interested in pursuing him? You know how some people are, they don't realise their own feelings for a person until someone else threatens to steal them away. I'd say use Aleksandr, but I think that might start a war!" I shook my head before adding, "It might be more beneficial to find someone closer to our age, I think that it will have a bigger impact."
"Like who? Most of the guys at this university are too afraid to even talk to me because of Dom," Jade noted sourly.
"Cristiano isn't," I quickly answered as I popped a piece of pineapple into my mouth.
Jade slowly lifted her head up to gaze across the hall to the table where Rosita and our other friends were sitting. She spotted Cristiano Morales, who I observed was coincidentally watching her at the same time.
When their eyes locked, Jade immediately looked away and I giggled under my breath, thinking that they would make a cute couple.
"The Actuary? Isn't he younger than us? Although I admit, I've never met a jock that was as smart as him," she noted as she continued, "I still can't believe that he transferred midway into the spring semester and still ended up topping all his classes!"
"Yea, I've never heard of a quarterback studying Actuarial Science. You should definitely take him up on his offer to help you with some of your accounting homework," I suggested as I nudged her side with my elbow.
Jade scoffed at the idea, she was an excellent student and did not need any help.
"As for him being younger, he's seventeen, two years isn't that big of a deal, plus he looks our age anyway," I said, while glancing over at Cristiano once more.
Frowning slightly, Jade said, "Wait, doesn't Rosita like him?"
"And?" I replied, my eyebrows arching, "He doesn't have a sign on him that say he belongs to her. Besides, I don't think that her feelings for him are anything serious. You know her, she's probably more interested in the fact that he replaced Travis as our starting quarterback."
Jade tightened her lips as she listened to me. "Even if Rosita likes him seriously, rumour has it that Cristiano likes you! I heard he's been itching to ask you out, been asking all sorts of questions about you. Maybe you should give him a chance? You guys always seem to have interesting conversations when we all hang out. He appears to be a nice guy from what I can tell, very mature and he's good-looking enough!
Not to mention those blue-green eyes of his are wistful..." I commented appreciatively.
Jade exhaled deeply before saying, "He does have nice hair," her eyes discreetly glancing over at his glossy waves of light-brown hair.
"Yea... Cause it's his hair that we're really looking at! Weren't you listening to anything I just said?" I scoffed while rolling my eyes as I continued, "Come on Jade! He's at least 6 foot one, handsome, and has a killer body! What do you have to lose? Besides, it might make the old Domster jealous." Biting her bottom lip, Jade looked up to see Cristiano still watching her from across the room.
His handsome face immediately lit up as their eyes met again and he flashed her a brilliant smile before she had a chance to look away.
"You might be on to something there Blaire," Jade murmured as she suddenly got up and walked over to where Cristiano sat.
"That's my girl!" I whispered as I resumed eating my pizza and watched them from where I sat.
I know that some people might say that I was being a bad best friend for encouraging Jade to play a dangerous game. But unfortunately, sometimes we just had to do things that we did not like in order to accomplish something that we truly desired.
It was obvious to me that Dominic cared about Jade, as for in what capacity, that I could not really say. The fact that he had kissed her in the last few minutes of her birthday spoke volumes to me.
Not only was it romantic, but from the way she told me he responded, it was also very passionate. There was no doubt in my mind that if Jade started dating someone else, it would definitely make Dominic jealous. I mean, he was a man after all, and their logic often made no damn sense.
They did not want you, yet no one else could have you. Yea, no, we were not about to play that stupid game!
Was it wrong to lead Cristiano on? Probably, but there was no harm in going on one date. Especially in the event that Dominic decided that he was not going to make a move, what was Jade supposed to do?
I was not about to let my best friend waste her university years away pinning after someone.
No sir, not on my watch!
This was the time where we should be dating around, experimenting, and making mistakes. Especially since Jade had never been on a date nor had a real boyfriend, I personally felt that it was time that she lived a little.
I believed that in the end, Jade would get a boyfriend out of this, be it Cristiano or Dominic. Either way, it was a win-win situation.
While Jade and Cristiano began to engage in conversation, I smiled and took out my mobile phone, opening my reading app. Taking a bite out of my pizza, I resumed where I had left off in the book Mine At First Sight giggling as my eyes scanned the screen.
"Oh Edric, you ass..." I said to myself.
