Chapter 106
Morgan was still stunned. The revelation that Miran was his son hit him like a blow; the world around him seemed to move in slow motion as he tried to absorb the impact of Fabian's words. Loren entered the hospital reception with a worried expression, immediately sensing the tension in the air.
“What’s going on here?” she asked, her voice carrying a note of confusion.
Fabian, with a cynical smile, was quick to respond. “I just told Morgan he has a son—Miran. That’s why he’s so shocked.”
Loren frowned, pretending to be surprised. “What do you mean? What are you talking about?”
Owen, who had been watching the situation with evident irritation, cut in, “As if you didn’t know! You’ve been Nick’s lover for years, and now you want us to believe you didn’t know anything? Lord, give me patience.”
Miran's grandmother, clearly desperate, intervened, her voice strained with worry. “We need to find my grandson as quickly as possible. If Laura wakes up and finds out about this, she won’t be able to take it. We don’t know what Nick is capable of.”
Morgan, still trying to piece it all together, turned to Fabian, his eyes intense. “Did Nick know about this the whole time?”
Fabian sighed impatiently. “Didn’t you hear what I said? Laura only agreed to marry your brother to save your life. She was afraid someone would kill you, so she accepted Nick’s proposal on the condition they’d never have a real marriage. They were never together as husband and wife; she was already pregnant.”
Morgan locked his gaze on Loren, his voice firm but trembling with restrained emotion. “How long have you known about this, Loren?”
“I didn’t know anything, I swear!” she insisted, sticking to her lie.
Morgan’s gaze darkened, his expression hardening. “How can you be so low? I warned you that if you crossed the line, I’d leave you. It’s over!” He took a step toward her, his eyes blazing with indignation. “My son is missing; he spent his first months without his father, and I said horrible things to Laura, all because of your betrayal. You knew a sibling’s blood could save our daughter’s life, and yet you gambled with even her life. You’d better get out of my sight now, because with the anger I feel, I don’t know what I might do to you.”
Loren stepped back, her face pale, speechless in the face of Morgan’s fury. The atmosphere grew thick with tension as everyone waited in silence, wondering what Morgan’s next move would be now that he was determined to resolve the chaos around him and protect his son.
Morgan took a deep breath, still absorbing the truth while trying to control the storm of emotions rising inside him. Loren, standing beside him, was muttering desperate justifications.
“I did all of this to protect our family,” she whispered, almost pleading for understanding. “Nick threatened me. I was afraid.”
Morgan looked at her, his eyes filled with pain and disbelief. “Afraid? You’ve been having an affair with my brother for years, acting like a… and now you want to say you were afraid? Do you think I didn’t see you on camera entering Juan the gardener’s house? Don’t make me open my mouth and say more. Go play the role of mother and check on our daughter.”
Loren remained silent, unable to respond. Owen, watching from a distance, muttered under his breath as if talking to himself, “If only Nick were the only problem here.”
Morgan heard Owen’s murmur and turned to him, acknowledging the truth in his friend’s words. “You’re right, Owen,” he said firmly. “Nick isn’t the only problem here. But we’re going to uncover every piece of dirt hidden behind this.”
Nona, Laura’s grandmother, raised her voice, her tone a mix of disapproval and exhaustion. “I think it’s time you focused on finding my great-grandson. Leave your dirty laundry for later.” She fixed her gaze on Morgan, her voice trembling but firm. “You abandoned my granddaughter, Morgan. If you truly loved her, you would’ve fought for her, even if she seemed to resist. Instead, you went back to a place you knew would hurt her. Now, at least, bring your son back.”
Before Morgan could respond, Nona began to lose her balance, feeling dizzy. She brought her hand to her head, her face pale. “Nona!” Morgan shouted, rushing to catch her.
Fabian and Owen quickly moved closer, trying to support her. The doctor who had left Laura’s room came running over when he noticed the situation.
“Let’s get her to a restroom,” said the doctor, helping Nona sit down. “She needs to rest. All this stress isn’t good for her.”
As Morgan watched Laura’s grandmother being led away, he felt the weight of her accusations. Her words had hit hard, bringing up regrets he’d been trying to ignore. He knew he couldn’t undo the past, but he promised himself he’d do everything he could to right his wrongs and protect his son.
Loren observed the surrounding chaos, with Morgan and the others focused on helping Nona. Feeling overwhelmed by everything happening and unable to maintain control of the situation, she decided to slip away to check on her daughter, hoping to at least ease a bit of the weight on her conscience. However, as she left, she couldn’t resist glancing back at Fabian, who, watching the situation closely, took advantage of the moment to step away discreetly and make a phone call.
He dialed a number, and after a few seconds, he heard a familiar voice on the other end.
“Hello, Nick? I need to be brief.”
Nick responded impatiently. “What happened?”
Loren took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice steady. “Morgan just found out that Miran isn’t his son. Everyone’s here at the hospital. What the hell did you get me into? Things were going well between Morgan and me; he was still angry at Laura and wouldn’t forgive her. How did you let it get to this point?”
Nick paused, his breathing heavy over the phone. “Things got out of my control, but you should have kept Morgan away from the truth. Now we’ll have to deal with it differently.”
Loren sighed, frustrated. “I hope you know what you’re doing because everything’s about to explode here. Morgan is furious and won’t stop until he finds Miran. This is more serious than I thought.”
Nick, in a cold and calculated tone, replied, “Leave it to me. I always have a plan.”
Loren hung up, his mind racing as he returned to the hospital. He knew that if he wanted to come out of this unscathed, he’d have to play his cards very carefully.
