Chapter 105

The taxi cut through the city streets at a rapid pace, while Nick nervously sat in the back seat, watching the urban lights blur by the window. Miran, his baby, was strapped into his car seat, wrapped in a blanket, sleeping peacefully. The sound of the engine and sudden breaks mixed with the chaos of the city, but Nick was focused on the road ahead, his mind restless.

The busy streets began to fade away, giving way to wider, quieter avenues. The taxi ventured down less-known paths, and Nick felt his heart race. He glanced at Miran's small face, seeking courage in the child's fragility, determined to protect his son at all costs.

Soon, the city lights started to disappear behind them, while the tall buildings became increasingly sparse. The urban landscape was replaced by green fields and stretches of open land. With each kilometer they traveled, Nick felt a weight lifting from his shoulders, though anxiety still accompanied him.

The taxi took a turn, and the asphalt road was replaced by a dirt path. Trees began to line the roadside, their canopies swaying gently in the wind. The air was fresher, and the scent of nature began to fill the car. Nick took a deep breath, allowing himself to dream of the life that awaited them.

“We're going to a special place, Miran,” he murmured, even knowing that the baby was completely oblivious to everything. The smooth motion of the taxi seemed to rock the little one, who continued to sleep without a care.

As they drove on, the scenery became increasingly serene. Flower-filled fields stretched as far as the eye could see, and Nick lost himself for a moment in the surrounding beauty. This was exactly what he wanted for his son: freedom and tranquility, far from the chaos of the life they were leaving behind.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the taxi slowed down and approached a small entrance that led to a cottage. Nick felt a mix of relief and anticipation. They had arrived at a destination that represented a new beginning. The driver stopped the car, and as Nick looked around, his heart raced in his chest.

Morgan left the parking lot and entered the hospital, his heart heavy as he headed to his daughter’s room. He was so focused on getting to her that he didn’t notice Loren running after him until he felt her hands grip him.

When he looked at her hands and then at Loren's face, a wave of frustration washed over him. She looked desperate, her eyes shining with contained tears.

“Listen to me, please?” she pleaded, her voice trembling.

“I have nothing to hear,” Morgan replied, anger laced in his words. “There’s nothing you can say that will change what I think and what I see.”

Loren hesitated for a moment, anguish visible on her face. “Are you going to believe your beloved now?” she dared to ask, the pain in her voice mingling with her indignation.

“Don’t put people in the middle,” Morgan said, his voice firm. “Your daughter is fighting for her life, and you’re here with her uncle. Look, it’s better if you leave me alone. Don’t provoke me, because I will forget that I’m in a hospital, and I won’t be responsible for myself.”

He took a deep breath, trying to control the storm of emotions that engulfed him. “As soon as our daughter is discharged, she will live with me, and we will get divorced,” he stated, his determination making it clear that there was no turning back.

Loren felt a sharp pain upon hearing his words, but Morgan’s decision seemed unwavering. “Morgan, please, just think about our daughter. This is not the time to discuss this,” she implored, seeking a look that might convince him.

“I don’t have time for that,” he replied, his voice lower but firm. “The only thing that matters now is our daughter’s health. The rest is secondary.”

With that, Morgan stepped away, freeing himself from Loren's touch and heading toward the elevator.

Fabian and Nona entered the hospital with a mix of worry and hope. Upon spotting Owen in the waiting room, their hearts tightened. He was sitting in a chair, anxiously staring at the door leading to the emergency department.

“Owen!” called Nona, hurrying toward him.

Owen lifted his head, his eyes revealing the accumulated tension.

“Where is Laura?” asked Fabian, concern evident in his voice.

“I don’t know,” Owen replied, his worried expression showing. “I've been here for a while, but I still haven’t had any news.”

When they reached the reception, the nurse looked at them, somewhat surprised by their sudden arrival.

“Are you looking for someone?” she asked, typing some information into the computer.

“We’re here for Laura. She might have been admitted recently,” Nona said, trying to stay calm.

The nurse checked the computer again, her expression changing to one of concern.

“One moment, please. I’ll check her status.”

Fabian and Nona exchanged nervous glances as Owen began to pace back and forth, anxious. Time seemed to drag, each second filled with growing unease.

After what felt like an eternity, the nurse finally looked at them with a serious expression.

“I checked the information, and unfortunately, Laura’s situation is serious. She is in an induced coma due to severe injuries. We are doing everything we can, but the situation is critical."

The nurse's words fell like a bombshell on Fabian, Nona, and Owen. Anxiety and worry transformed into despair, and the waiting room seemed to spin around them.

"It can't be..." Nona murmured, covering her mouth with her hand as tears began to stream down her face.

Fabian stepped back a bit, trying to process the devastating information. Owen stopped, dazed, unsure of what to say.

At that moment, Morgan emerged from the elevator and spotted Laura's family. He approached them, concerned by their expressions.

"What happened?" he asked, his voice trembling.

The nurse, noticing Morgan's presence, looked at him before responding.

"Laura suffered severe injuries and is in an induced coma. We are doing everything possible for her."

Morgan felt his heart tighten upon hearing the news.

"How did this happen?" Morgan asked, concern and confusion evident on his face.

"We don’t know. We saw it on the news," Owen replied, his tone tense. "Your brother hid this from us. He was in the car with her."

"I saw both of them here earlier today. Something unpleasant happened. She caught Nick cheating on her with Loren. They must have fought since they left here arguing. I should have stopped them!" Morgan asserted, his gaze distant.

"What? How did she catch them together?" Owen exclaimed, visibly shocked.

"I told Laura it wasn't a good idea to continue with him," Fabian said, frustration evident in his voice.

"Where is he? If he’s not here, where did he take Miran?" Nona asked, starting to panic.

"Laura must love him very much. They’ll make up soon, I’m sure. He must be out with the baby. He can be whatever he wants, but he would never harm his child," Morgan replied, trying to find a glimmer of hope in the situation.

Fabian, already exhausted by everything Morgan was saying, shouted, "Miran is not Nick's son! He’s your son, Morgan! Why do you think Laura gave him that name? She gave up living for you to stay alive! That’s why she agreed to marry your brother. He knew from the start that she didn’t love him and that the baby wasn’t his, so he might very well do something to Miran to hurt you!"

Before Fabian could finish speaking, Morgan felt a buzzing in his ear, his body becoming dizzy with the revelation. Fabian’s words echoed in his mind, and he began to think of all the times he had hurt Laura with his words, each moment now heavy like an anchor in his heart.

Reality unfolded before him, and guilt began to settle in, mixing with worry about Laura’s safety and the little Miran.
