Chapter 77 Tell me you got her
“Hello, who is this?" Katherine spoke nonchalantly from the end of the line, Tonia was dumbfounded. Even if her mother didn’t see the caller ID, she should at least recognize her voice. "Mom, it’s me, Tonia."
Feeling like she was faking it, Karen snatched the phone and activated the speaker as Katherine’s voice came through. "Tonia? Sorry, I don’t have any child by that name.”
Tonia’s heart sunk as Katherine added, “I only have one daughter, and that is Karen."
Something was not adding up. Not only Tonia but also Karen and Roger were stunned.
However, Tonia regained herself when she recalled her conversation with the housekeeper who claimed to be her real mother. She had left angrily to meet with Loretta and hadn’t returned home since.
Instantly, she began to curse herself internally when she remembered there were cameras all over the Fletchers' residence.
Still, she tried to play along to buy time. "Mom, I…" she was saying when a knock was heard on the door. Thinking it was the Dawson’s security, Roger responded, "come in."
It wasn’t the Dawson’s security but rather Ryan and Max. When they saw the woman on the floor, confusion brewed in their minds as they both remembered her as the one they saw from the picture Brad showed them.
There was another woman from the picture Destiny showed them, but before they could make head or tail of the matter, Tonia had bolted out of the door, leaving her phone and baseball cap behind.
She narrowly bypassed the Dawson’s security to the elevator, just as they came out of it as Roger roared, "get her, you fools."
Had they arrived even a little earlier, Tonia wouldn’t have gotten away. The elevator door was locked, but one of the Dawson’s security took the stairs, sliding on the handle as the second one used the emergency elevator.
"You are both fired if you don't bring her here," Roger roared after them, fury burning inside of him. He had so much in store for Tonia because even death was too good for her.
"Hello," Katherine was saying on the phone, but Karen ended the call as Roger’s anger descended on Ryan and Max. "Why should it be now?" He yelled.
They were confused as Ryan pleaded, "I’m sorry, Mr. Dawson, but you gave me ten, and I only came fifteen minutes early. Max agreed to work for free too so I brought him."
Realizing their presence related to official matters, Karen calmed Roger. “It’s alright, Roger, Tonia has nowhere to go. They’ll get her.”
Roger pursed his lips together, unable to look her in the eyes. The shame was too much for him to bear but next moment, he was down on his knees.
“Kitten, I’m so sorry for what they did to you.”
Karen’s eyes were moist, but why waste her tears when she was capable of making Tonia pay? “You have a meeting. I’ll go with Dahlia, and I think you can handle the rest.”
She turned, but Roger stood up pulled her into his arms burying his face in the crook of her neck. “No, just stay, please. This meeting might interest you as well.”
A strange fear had taken over him from that video, and he couldn’t bear to be away from her. Seeing how vulnerable he was, Karen agreed to stay, but Ryan and Max were speechless.
It was just as Destiny said. Roger was so crazy over his little wife that he even goes on his knees for her.
“You two should have a seat,” Karen pointed at the couch in Roger’s office, and the two men sat nervously.
As soon as Roger took his seat with Karen beside him, his expression changed dramatically. It was as if he wasn’t the same person who knelt earlier.
“Ryan and Max, what do you have to say?” His aura was so icy that the temperature in the office dropped.
“Mr. Dawson,” Ryan swallowed. “Like I said, we are ready to work for RD Group, and this time, we won’t let you down.”
“How can I trust you? You left when I needed you the most, ruining my time with my wife,” Roger said coldly. Ryan and Max had their foreheads beaded with sweat.
If Roger’s wife was involved, then the matter was more serious than they thought.
“Mr. Dawson, you mentioned that it would be too late if you find my replacement, but you haven’t.”
“What makes you think so?” Roger smiled but his gaze was so cold, it made them nervous.
“It’s been just twenty-four hours. You can’t get an expert within that short time,” Ryan analyzed but Roger scoffed and revealed, “I guess you’ve always wondered who Terror D2 is.”
The two men nodded fiercely, eager to meet that legend, as well as the genius. DK-1. “That is me and DK-1, that is my wife,” Roger revealed, the two men paled simultaneously.
Their hope was completely destroyed, but Max remembered something. “Mr. Dawson, if you take us back, we can help you know your enemies. Like Destiny, he’s planning to harm your wife.”
“Yes,” Ryan added. “He was even planning on hiring Terror D2 and DK-1, but since that happens to be you, he already failed that part.”
Roger frowned imperceptibly. The name didn’t ring a bell. “Destiny? Who the fuck is he?”
Ryan was about to speak when the door pushed open, and one of Dawson’s security guards stood there. “Sir, the girl.”
“Tell me you got her,” Roger said seriously, Karen’s interest piqued as well.
