Chapter 76 Karen’s style
The Video
“Are you sure we should record it?" A man in a sleeveless shirt and rugged jeans asked. Another man with cornrows and tattoos replied, "How else can we prove to her that the job is done? The Fletchers are rich, and that Tonia girl is quite loaded to pay us half a million."
"There is still 250,000 remaining, and I hope we'll get it as soon as the job is done," the man in the sleeveless shirt said.
The third man, a blonde, removed a knife from his boot, but the man covered in tattoos stopped him. "But the girl, she's too young. Let's confirm."
The video lingered on a pale Karen, sleeping with just a towel around her chest, her thighs, and legs bare.
The man with cornrows gave the go-ahead after checking his phone. "Identity confirmed. Do it smoothly."
"Wait, are you sure? She's just a child. There might be a mistake," the man covered in tattoos countered. The man with cornrows showed him the image on the phone.
"It's not a mistake. The victim's clothes are the same as in the picture."
Their gazes moved to where Karen's clothes hung. "Indeed, but Tonia must be heartless to want a child dead," the blonde man with the knife said, and the man with cornrows agreed. "If she's a child, then where are her parents? Only adults can book a motel."
"Please, don't hurt me," Karen's pitiful voice sounded. The man covered in tattoos gazed at her with a blend of lust and pity. Roger paused the video and wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.
Resuming the video, he saw how Karen pleaded, and yet, they wouldn't listen. When the pillow was pressed against her head as she struggled for her life while two of the assassins watched with excitement, everything broke inside of him.
His body shook from pain until he saw the door forcefully pushed from outside and his father walk in. The man with the pillow was killed by the twisting of his neck, as the remaining two aimed for the door but were too late.
Their necks were grabbed, and their heads were smashed against the wall before they were harshly thrown to the floor. "Who sent you?" Giovanni roared, but neither of them mentioned a name, making him angry.
One of them heard the sound of bones breaking as one passed away. “It’s Tonia Fletcher. Please don’t kill me,” the last one pleaded, but Giovanni’s gaze was cold. “You would have killed her if I hadn’t arrived, so why should I let you live?”
His head was twisted in sync with Giovanni’s final words before he noticed the woman on the bed.
She was naked with a towel underneath, so he removed his jacket and covered her. “Hey, can you hear me?” Giovanni asked in a worried tone, but Karen was unconscious.
He began performing CPR to no avail. “Come on, wake up, you can’t die on me,” he said through gritted teeth, but there was no sign of her regaining consciousness.
Pressing her nose with his two fingers, he pressed his lips to hers, blowing air into her lungs when she gasped, coughing violently.
Roger lowered himself to the floor, allowing tears to slide down his cheek. She was awake and with his dad, so the rest of the video did not matter to him.
Only regret filled his heart. He focused on others, and even when Hector told him to go after Karen, he refused, and she would have died if his father had not been there.
No wonder his father kept her away from everyone. Karen heard the sounds and knew exactly what he was watching. For some reason, she didn’t want to remember that deadly night, but Tonia was as pale as a ghost.
Yet, she still did not accept it. “No, someone must have paid them to set me up. Why didn’t they call? Nobody heard my voice.”
Unknown to them, Roger hadn’t ended the call with his father, and when he heard Giovanni speaking, he pressed the speaker button.
“I knew she’ll deny it, so I took the phones of the assassins. The bank transfer was done from Tonia’s account to theirs. I have her chats and call records with them.”
Like a deer caught in headlights, Tonia was lost for words this time. “I…I wasn’t thinking, Karen, please, please, forgive me. I didn’t mean it,” she began to cry, but Roger picked up the telecom and spoke coldly, “Send me two.”
Karen guessed he was calling for that special security from yesterday and smirked. The deadly aura emitted from him made Tonia afraid as she thought of a way to escape.
She should never have come here. “Karen, listen, mom and dad, they will die if they don’t hear from me.”
The mention of her parents made Karen smile. “I think you should call them.”
She would love to see their pain when their beloved daughter was dealt with. Tonia smiled, her first call going to her father, but it was unanswered. She then dialed her mother’s number, but the response she got killed her soul.
